Long story on how I've ended up playing this comp, but end result is I'm off to play the PP Women's World Open. It's completely out of my league, which I am aware of, but I intend to enjoy the day and use it as a learning curve (thankfully not at my expense!)

However, I would like to go with some idea of how the other ladies in my heat play, what they have won etc. I would really appreciate any feedback from Blonde members who can give constructive or helpful advice Re the following names - thanks in advance

Eliza Burnett is the editor of Poker Europa. One a Ladies Ladbrokes event once I believe. Experienced in the format, and routinely put in to these things. In my one experience of playing her she was tighter than me

Shelly Rubenstein is a Poker journalist, experienced player..again routinely put into these

Chilli . Probably the most experience of any in that line up. Surprised he is allowed to enter a ladies event though

Kara's game came on enormously under the tutelage of the likes of Nick Wealthall. Won a biggie last year. Has a good game.

Jackie Meecham won the Ladies Ladbrokes last year. Former pool Pro. Not that experienced, and I would say the weaker of those I know of

To add to Tightys list. Natasha Ellis I believe is an online pro of several years so will probably be decent, the other girl sounds German so you can nick her blinds.

As you know Colin and I had a hiccup so Lynne and Michelle said - We know how to cheer you up, let's all play the Womens World Open. Seemed like a great idea when your world has just fallen apart but now normality has been resumed, I realise it probably would have been better to have just got pissed. Would also have resulted in me making a show of myself on a far smaller scale with no cameras around to capture the disaster.

Anyway it's done now. Determined to make the best of it and at least try and go prepared. Will this Chilli bloke expect me to fight him?

Thanks Geo, now that I'm committed to it I intend to make the most of it and hopefully learn a little. Worst nightmare is being blinded away, second worst nightmare is going out first on a really badly played bluff lol.

Demetriou has an aggressive game with lots of moves and is unafraid to pull a massive bluff, or as some would say:

He has massive balls

Learn perfect shove botting and play tight early. This should negate much need to know your opponents. From what I know these things don't play that deep

This bit is so so so true - so important to know how to do this and very few people, especially live, seem to get it right. obviously there are plenty of circumstances where it is right to not follow this, but people seem to get it wrong all over the place in pretty bad ways

Caroline, I wish you all some luck in your heat and hope you enjoy it.  At least you are coming in for the first time with 200k starting stack and not the standard 100k. Slight improvement even though my fellow chaps got a 300k stack.

James Browning named us the Knit Squad but Brian Martin has gone one better - the HRT squad.

Looking forward to this immensely as I'm completely in form at the moment as Rick and Raf will vouch for at last night's cash game... not the poker obviously but the rubdowns, innuendo and insults - I'm on a roll.

Caroline is absolutely mental! She had the table in stiches practically the whole time and I laughed so much my face hurt!

I can't wait to see how matchroom edit this one, I can assure you that most of carolines hands will end up on the cutting room floor due to her mouth lololol.

hi everyone thanks very much for your good wishes, I was actually shell shocked last night when I got thru so if I'd posted it would have been pure gibberish - standard for me I know.

Col and I decided my strategy before we went. Because I was very much the unknown quantity at the table, I knew anyone who asked about me would be told - loud, loose, any 2 cards, shit etc etc... So there was to be no hands played for the first two levels at all (unless aces basically) fold SB every time to create an image of being terrified. I made sure I told anyone who would listen how nervous I was (although it was true at that stage)and how much I was praying I would get some cards, again so that when I started to play they would have to respect my raises.

It killed me to not get involved - I now know I was folding hand sthat others were raising with lol But it paid off. First hand back after the break I found KK no callers, then raised I think 6 out of 7 hands just cos I could and took myself up from short stack at 130 to over 210, then started to play.


Couple of noteablehands - reraised Kelly Jackson with AA, tried to talk another short into calling  inbetween, talked kelly into calling, she says call and turns over aq off. So I turned o0ver my aces immediately so no kind of slow roll going on, only for her to realise she's not all in. Her call has left her 100k behind and both our hands are exposed :(

Marty TD decidesKelly cannot bet but I can. In the interests of fairness I then declared I would check it down. Interested in opinions here - anyway, my kindness allowed her to catch a one card flush... sigh.



Couple hands later she pushes my BB  and I find AQ. I now I have to call with my short stack but I knew I was behind - kelly only plays aa kk or possibly ak lol. Karma kicked in and first card out was the Q leaving her AK behind by the river.

Maria played just like I thought she would - extremely well, and wasa the only player I didn't want to get involved with at the table. I initially felt like that about Kara but eventually she didnt get to play her game as the girl on her left was too active and kept taking Kara's chances away. Maria can back me up but yes I did thanks Kara for having a crack.... once she'd left the table lol.

You are very conscious that everyone in the green room can see what you are folding/calling with, and of course can see what your opponent has and that's hard. The atmospohere was great, I do think we all had fun and even the dealers thankked me for making them laugh all day, so hopefully I did bring a little to the game!

Truthfully - I'm absoloutely thrilled with myself mainly because I made every effort to concentrate and make the right folds/calls/pushes. I folded one hand were I was ahead but the other decent folds I made, I was behind so I'm happy that my reads were good. Going back now to cheer Michelle Bricknell on, and then the final starts around 5pm. Thansk for all good wishes, Maria thanks for your nice words on here and it was a genuine pleasure to meet you x

AS for checking down the Aces  -thats really tough - i guess you did the polite thing - but i dont think anyone could have faulted you for jamming - afterall she made the msiatke not you - she also had the advantage of seeing your hand and it prevented her from spazzing out

Its funny - i read the updates and it suggested that you came across poorly (ie not in the jovial manner suggetsed here), whereas this is clearly conflicted with the comments from people actually there.
