Title: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: Maxriddles on March 18, 2010, 11:12:35 PM After a poor week at Cheltenham I can guarantee recovering my losses by laying Denman in the Gold Cup for the full amount I stand to win if Denman wins. Clearly this is no fun at all but it makes it a break even week. Another option is to back Kauto enough to recover my losses but still get a little profit if Denman wins but done at the risk of more than doubling my losses if neither win. Third option is that my losses are affordable so let it ride. What should I do?

How much for? It's a marathon not a sprint, you don't have to "break even for Cheltenham" Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: LeKnave on March 18, 2010, 11:20:11 PM you don't have to "break even for Cheltenham" pretty sure you do. I like the backing Imperial Commander ew option. Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: The Camel on March 18, 2010, 11:32:03 PM you don't have to "break even for Cheltenham" pretty sure you do. Not if you are already in front Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: Maxriddles on March 18, 2010, 11:41:50 PM What price have you backed Denman at? How much for? It's a marathon not a sprint, you don't have to "break even for Cheltenham" I stand to return £650 if Denman wins, I staked £50 at 4/1 but also have £100 free bet at 4/1 so effectively I have 12/1. The £50 on Denman is included in my actual losses of £150, my losing bets total a good bit more than this but I have used free bets well this week (could have used them better backing winners right enough). I don't need to break even but I am not liking the bet as much as I did when I placed it, was expecting they conditions would suit Denman a bit better than it appears they were going to. Have just checked and at latest odds on betfair I can't recover full amount with max lay, would still be about £30 down on the week but that's a pretty negligible loss especially in a week where I haven't backed a winner. Have considered this but not done the maths yet, will have a look at this option just now. Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: The Camel on March 18, 2010, 11:51:28 PM Take the bet on its own merit.
If you think Denman is a bad price get rid of it. You really shouldn't take any notice of how you are doing on the week. Backing Kauto Star is probably the worst option unless you think he is a good bet at 8/11. And if you do, why didn't you have the free bet on it? Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: Hairydude on March 18, 2010, 11:58:13 PM yeah if you dont fancy it take the small loss then set up another free bet account for a horse you do fancy in the race...assuming there is a bookie you haven't used yet...a new one is the one all the football teams seem to be sponsored by these days...188bet.com I think it is with a free £25 on any loss
could be guttering when denman eases home by 9 lengths tho......... ;grr; Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: TheChipPrince on March 19, 2010, 01:18:54 AM How many more years are Denman & Kauto likely to go head-to-head for?

I did @ 8/1!!!! Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: Maxriddles on March 19, 2010, 05:45:41 PM Where is the option to back Imperial Commander with a saver on Cooldine. I like the backing Imperial Commander ew option. I was very close to the let it ride option but ended up taking the back Imperial Commander ew and saver on Cooldine option, still down about £90 for this year's festival but not too disappointed with that. So glad I didn't take the back Kauto option. Title: Re: Friday Gold Cup Dilema Post by: nirvana on March 19, 2010, 06:05:38 PM Does down £90 even count as being down ?
