Title: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: paulhouk03 on March 24, 2010, 06:46:21 PM I have just started a sales job selling kirby vacuum cleaners. (Just to get by before i go to hk.)
I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with a company that sells kirby? or even have a kirby I have done my research about the company i will work for and I can not gather much information. (new company) The information that i got is that they are cold calling ppl and they give you a chance to have a free carpet shampoo, which will lead to their sales pitch. I have googled kirby and found some articles saying that companies that sell kirbys are complete cocks. They said they use high pressure sales tactics and target elderly people. ( they told this in the first training session target rich ppl and 40-65 yo) I havent even signed a contract yet and they expect me to go to my appointments demostrating this over priced vacuum £2395 They said i will get paid £1000 a month but i would have to do at least 60 appointments a month. they said that you will get minimum 60 but should i believe him because some of the stuff that he has said is already false. If you have any respect for yourself (you always sound like an OK bloke) & others, find something else Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: Doobs on March 24, 2010, 06:58:46 PM From what I understand you are selling a £200 cleaner for £2500 and disguising it by getting them to pay instalments. Preying on the vulnerable. I don't even watch the TV much, but know they have a terrible reputation.
Sort of job that exists to make poker players feel better about themselves. I wouldnt do it Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: paulhouk03 on March 24, 2010, 06:59:51 PM i have already in my mind gonna quit my job but i want to shampoo my carpets before i quit.

Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: EvilPie on March 24, 2010, 07:03:11 PM I've got a friend who used to sell Kirbys. He didn't enjoy it one bit but was never specific as to why.
He only stayed in the job for about a week. Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: gatso on March 24, 2010, 07:03:30 PM please don't do it paul. horrible company with no consideration for either customers or staff
you will regret it if you go for it obv do your own carpets first though Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: Graham C on March 24, 2010, 07:10:39 PM Same as what everyone else said. Turned down a 'job offer' with them when I was about 17 for pretty much the same reasons.

Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: Graham C on March 24, 2010, 07:26:18 PM lots of soap is the key
Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: jambo22 on March 24, 2010, 07:26:41 PM Dont waste anytime with it m8. I done it for 2 months when I was 19, never got paid a penny, they want you to con people and then they will con you. They also have a Kirby song they make you sing at sales meetings, not good.
Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: Laxie on March 24, 2010, 07:37:56 PM They 'sell' them here too. A friend of mine was so worn out trying to say "no thank you" over the phone, she finally gave in and agreed to a demonstration...on one condition. She told the salesperson she wasn't going to allow him to clean just one patch as it would make the rest of the carpet look even worse. He agreed.
Showed up and washed the entire carpet. After he was finished she walked him to the door. Complimented him and his machine. Then said her husband would kill her if she spent that kind of money on a Kirby, but thanks for the demonstration as she closed the door behind him. Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: dik9 on March 24, 2010, 07:43:06 PM I remember them on Watchdog about 10 years ago, the term "hard sell" was a bit mild for this company, don't know if it has changed since.
Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: The_duke on March 24, 2010, 08:07:28 PM Had a demo done as a favour to someone. Total hard nosed and if you don't buy you get the harder sell from another dick. I won they lost - hated them with a passion, the sales person fell short of threats of physical violence - I didn't.
Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: jizzemm on March 24, 2010, 09:51:35 PM I did it a long time ago for about a month and got nothing, except for cleaning a load of houses.. and my own :-)
Dont do it, waist of time and energy and u wont sell a bean.. Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: thetank on March 24, 2010, 10:09:15 PM I sell them. Love it.
You get to meet new people, every day if different. The money's good too. I don't actually get paid by the company, I just nick stuff from people's houses where I'm demonstrating. Ridic how much money keep in those fake Heinz baked bean tins. Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: seven2unsuited on March 25, 2010, 12:09:55 AM steal them and sell them on ebay man
Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: The-Crow on March 29, 2010, 02:33:54 AM OK, my mother brought one of these years ago.
They are extremely heavy being made of chrome steel, and very noisey. The 15 horse power engine is so strong it can be used to cut your lawn with the extra attachment It also comes with a skill saw extra so you can trim an inch off the bottom of your doors after carpet laying. Another usefull extra is the hair drier attachment, toaster, sandwichmaker and dog grooming brush ( large dogs only ) you cant get a disposable paper bag so its fun getting the dust out of the cloth bag Being so heavy its ideal for the elderly , as the stair lift extra works really well Heres a consumer report YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7N_RTvCVFI Title: Re: Kirby vacuum cleaner Post by: paulhouk03 on March 29, 2010, 12:43:15 PM OK, my mother brought one of these years ago. My local pub Kg's is just at side of it, you see loads of people coming and going for interviews.
