Title: Shell Houston Open Golf
Post by: Nico29 on April 01, 2010, 06:23:03 AM
Last weeks golf was bad for me seeing me lose 16 pts, despite having a nice sweat on the last round with the 2nd and 3rd just failing to peg back the awesome els.

Im going full pelt this week in an attempt to win back those losses.

2.5pts ew Fred Couples@40-1

Fred is on fire right now, albeit on the oldie tour. Yet he also finished third in this last year and 4th the year before that. Confidence in golf is a huge thing and freddie could surprise a great deal of people here. I love the place part of this bet.

2pts win Ernie Els@12-1

If Mr couples is on fire, ernie is ablaze. The way he closed out the tournament last week was a wonder to behold. The south african looks in great nick and is probably a bit big for this, especially when you consider how the out of form mickleson is a similar price.

1pt ew Hunter Mahan@25-1

Has been in reasonable form in recent weeks, and seems a course specialist, finishing in the top 12 in 3 out of the last 4 years.

0.5pt ew John Mallinger@250-1

Admittedly not in great form right now. But 6th in this last year and seems a reasonable long shot/raggy gamble.

I'd expect to add/spew off some more selections during the weekend. Good luck all!

I'm on Westwood but just in the "top5" market, 6/1 seems generous enough for another course specialist.

I rarely bet on golf, is 1/4 odds for top 5 the norm?

Yeah that's the one. There is a strong chances some1 like boyles or pads will go 1/4 the odds first 6 nearer the event. However that is just a special promo for big events, and they may do the odd moneyback special too.

In fact boyles actually have one already involving finishing second to tiger yet still backing the winner. But again to answer your query 1/4 odds top 5 is the standard place terms week in week out.

Here's the boyles link for the tiger offer for all:

hmm

Reasoning for 'hmmm'?

Apparently the organisers of the houston open try year in year out to make the course as similar to agusta, im just thinking if he does have a good run here then it would follow he might play well too at the masters.

Haven't gone in with the farm or nothing, more like a 0.5pt ew fun punt.

It will be interesing to see how Freddie plays this week obv he is full of confidence and his putter is red hot.

Gl Nico nice original write up.

Not a terrible start with Els on -2 and Couples on -1. The other two have work to do at +2, but a good round today could see them make the weekend at least.

Currently in the process of deciding whether or not to add some more runners or even press up.*

No horse racing today leaves a void in my degen betting! :)

*Nah odds seem all over the place-will wait to end of round 2 before spewing or folding.

Nice start guys, esp to round 2, a birdie on his second hole today taking him to -4 overall.

Looking a bit of a dismal one again here, be dropping more points than portsmouth at this rate.

Nevertheless i'll plough on, and despite two of my runners in mahan and mallinger failing to make the cut, i'll add some more selections. Never a fan of money you see.

I've found 3 'value' selections imo in terms of their place in the field and relation to the market and strength on betfair which is normally a good indicator. It's only top 4 now for the place part.

0.5pt ew Lucas Glover@66-1

0.5pt ew James Driscoll@66-1

0.5pt ew Justin Rose@125-1

Spectacular spontaneous combustion from Westwood dropping six shots in three holes on the front side.

Glad I saved my stake by laying 11/10, wish I'd done a little more business :(

As all my picks continue to slide i'll throw some more cash at the situation in a mad attempt to salvage something from the weekend.

Kim does look fair value to me at just under 2-1 on betfair, but that's not really a working man's price so i'll go for a couple of lively outsiders 4 off the pace.

Both of these are more than capable of shooting a 66 which would really throw a cat amongst the pigeons. The place part is just the first 3.

At least i've almost backed half the field now so should have a chance of some returns! :)

1pt ew Padraig Harrington@16-1

1pt ew Charl Schwartzel@33-1
