Day One of the 2010 Irish Open held at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin saw a record-breaking 708 players take part in the €3200 + €300 buy-in event, Europe's longest running Poker Tournament, creating a huge €2,265,600 prize pool.

DTD Poker had sent seven qualifiers to the event from it's Live satellite held last month in conjunction with event sponsors PaddyPowerPoker. One of these, Gurdeu Millan, did well to survive a confrontation in the first ten minutes of the tournament when forced to pass Pocket Kings pre-flop to a third raise from a player with Aces. Amongst the other players the DTD qualifer quickest out of the blocks was DTD Monte Carlo event winner Waheed Ashraf who, playing with aggression and verve, soon amassed a substantially above-average stack.

Elsewhere amongst the DTD qualifiers it was a more humdrum story. Stephen Boyd was eliminated by mid evening as was the unfortunate Kyriacos Dionysiou who took Pocket Queens all in against Pocket Jacks, only to see a Jack fall on the river. Of the remaining players, Jason Herbert, Ramzi Abbassi and Jonathan Butters battled away with below average chips for most of the Day's play until Ramzi fell with twenty minutes of the day remaining, Jacks against Aces all in on a 9-10-Q flop, only to miss his outs. Butters had a nice recovery in the last level of the ngiht, tripling his stack.

In the wider tournament a British player Keith "The Camel" Hawkins became chip leader in the early stages, a position he held for the rest of the day being joined at his table by other chipped up Brits Jen Mason and Online Serial winner Marc Wright, whilst the large contingent of UK players battled with satellite qualifiers and home players over a gruelling day.

At the end of the day 264 players remained (blinds 400-800 next, average stack 26,500) and Day Two begins on Friday afternoon. Four DTD Qualifiers, Ashraf, Butters, herbert and Millan made it through with Butters the only above average stack.

Please join us on www.blondepoker.com/forum over the weekend to follow the Irish Open until a new Champion is crowned.

Day Two of the 2010 Irish Open saw the field play down into the money places. Over the day 256 runners played down to 62. One DTDPoker Live Qualifier, Jason Herbert, made it to the Cash ending the day with above average chips.

Of the other qualifiers Waheed Ashraf ran Ace-King on the button into the big blind's Aces. Tony Millan flopped top pair when defending with Queen-Jack in the big blind but lost out to the pre-flop raisers flopped nut flush draw which hit on the turn. Finally Jonothan Butters played a patient game for most of the day, eventually forced to push all-in wih Ace-Seven called by Pocket Kings which held.

Generally it was a good day for the British players at the event with twelve of the seventy-two cashers emanating from the United Kingdom including Keith "The Camel" Hawkins, James Mitchell, Ross Boatman, Nik Persaud, Ben Roberts, Marty Wilson and Jen Mason. Also making it through were regular DTD players Cos Paparestis, Andy Miles and Anthony Kennedy and all are now guaranteed €4,000.

In terms of the overall tournament play the day was dominated by Finnish Janni Neuvelainen, Hungarians Zsombor Gall and Ben Juhuska and veteran Irish poker Legend Liam Flood, all of whom jockeyed for the chip-lead as the day reached a conclusion with Flood ending the day chip-leader with a treble average stack.

Play resumes at 2pm on Easter Sunday as the remaining  players battle for the €600,000 first prize. Please join us on www.blondepoker.com/forum then

61 Players began Day Three of the 2010 Irish Open at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin in contention for the €600,000 first prize.

Amongst them was the last DTD Online Qualifier Jason Herbert who began with above average chips and continued to play well until unfortunately being outdrawn in 40th, all in with Q-Q against James Mitchell's Ace-Queen, Ace on the turn. Herbert nevertheless took home over €5,000 for his efforts, all from a £100 Live rebuy satellite at the DTD Club.

Play continued down to an eight handed final table after fourteen hours of gruelling play. Those returning for the final table tomorrow are Englishmen Ben Roberts, Robert Sherwood and James Mitchell alongside Finn Saniteri Valikowski and Irish players Declan Connelly, Paul Murphy, Ed Sweeney and Paul Carr.

Paul Carr from Limerick won a 1,500,000 chip pot on the final table bubble when finding Aces to knock out Canadian Yann Dion with Queens, and hit the final table as chip leader

Notable British finishers in the run to the final table were Keith Hawkins in 20th, Kings into Ben Roberts' Aces, Marty Wilson in 17th Queens into Aces all-in pre-flop, and Online Qualifier Richard Robinson in 10th. Well done to them all.

Congratulations to Manchester's Rob Sherwood who won the Sole Survivor Last Longer award and won €100,000 from the sponsors in cash and tournament entries

Final table play begins at 2pm on Monday and will be covered on www.blondepoker.com/forum as we find the 2010 Irish Open Winner. Please join us.

Easter Monday saw the eight remaining players from 708 starters contest the final of the 2010 Irish Open at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin. The final table line up consisted of Four Irishmen, three British Players and a Finn with the chip leader Paul Carr from Limerick. At stake was €600,000 to the winner and the prestigous title in Europe's longest runnign Poker tournament.

First player out was Louthman Peter Murphy, unluckily eliminated by aggressive Englishman James Mitchell. Murphy's Ace-King outdrawn by Mitchell's King-ten, all-in pre-flop with a ten on the flop followed by Declan Connolly with Ace-King against Paul Carr's Pocket Tens. Ulsterman Ed Sweeney exited in sixth before veteran English Player Ben Roberts pushed once too often and his Queen-Jack failed to out-draw Santeri Valikowski's Ace-King.

Four handed Carr had over Four Million of the Seven Million Chips in play, a position that held until three handed once Rob Sherwood from Manchester had been knocked out in fourth. At that point, helped by James Mitchell flopping trip Aces, and turning Quads against Paul Carr's flopped nut flush draw, the chip counts levelled up and at the dinner break the chip counts of the final three were as follows:

Paul Carr   2,087,000

James Mitchell   2,622,000

Santeri Valikoski   2,328,000

Therefore the title was there for the taking for all three.

After the break Carr's relentless aggression gave him the upper hand and Valikoski struggled to maintain his stack eventually falling in third to Mitchell when forced to push on the button.

Heads-up, England against Ireland, Mitchell against Carr with Carr beginning with a narrow chip lead. The Heads-Up lasted over two hours until eventually Mitchell took a 5-1 chip lead after beating Queens with Ace-Six, all-in pre-flop and a rivered Ace and then flopped two pair with Ace-Eight on a J-J- board to call Carr's steal push with Queen-Five.

So James Mitchell from London became the 2010 Irish Open Champion. Congratulations to him
