Although I find these boys not flying funny - why dont they invest some of there winnings in hypotherapy treatment for their fear of flying?

Surely they could get the TGV all the way to Marseille, and it is only a couple of hours on from there?

BTW Is the EPT San Remo still pretty soft with all the Italians, or has it got much tougher as everyone knows it is bound to be soft?

Thinking about it more,

getting a TGV to the South of France and then driving across the French/Italian Riviera >>> minibus.

getting a TGV to the South of France and then driving across the French/Italian Riviera > flying.  So much win involved

not sure where you live but Eurostar to Paris?

....and then the TGV to Marseille is only 3 hours or so from Paris.  Marseille to San Remo is only 125 miles or so and must be doable.  I am pretty sure there is a train track from Marseille at least as far as Monte Carlo.  I have done worse journeys and this one may be a long day, but isn't going to be a 24 hour job.  Spending 10 hours to get to San Remo for an italian EPT is so much more worthwhile than spending 3 hours to get to Luton for a GUKPT??

I am not firmly in the fear of flying camp, but I'd far rather sit on a eurostar to paris than a plane.

my source at the venue reports as follows

can't get on blonde from San Remo but you might like to know that in the official counts in San Remo, Flushy is being referred to in the Casino Counts as James Vincent Tristan Dempsey.

From Poker news

Flushy Gets Lucky

We arrived to see the board reading {10-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds} and the gentleman in the big blind position (who seems to have lost his player ID card) betting out 2,500. James "Flushy" Dempsey made the call from the cutoff and they saw the river.

The river was the {10-Clubs}, putting two pairs on the board. Mr. Big Blind bet out 6,000 and after a moment Flushy made the call. When the cards were flipped, it was revealed that Flushy's {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} had counterfeited Mr. BB's {4-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} to take the pot.

Flushy is up to around 100,000.

Over 300k. Someone just bluffed 3 streets into him. Probably in top 10, maybe top 5. Long way to go though.

On a flop of 9♠7♣3♥ James Dempsey and Jens Thorson enjoyed
a little dust up.

Thorson checked from the small blind and Dempsey bet a little
more than 20,000, which Thorson called. The turn came K♣. Now Thorson bet
32,500. Dempsey was specific in looking over at Thorson, whose face was hidden
by giant yellow rimmed sunglasses, the rest of him hunched in the classic
Thorson position his older brother William usually adopts - arms around his
stack, guarding it from all sides. Call.

The river came a 5♠. Thorson checked and Dempsey again wanted
to look directly into the soul of Thorson, asking the dealer to lean back.
Satisfied, Dempsey checked. Thorson showed 9♣T♠. Dempsey winced. Was he
beaten? No, he turned over T♦T♥ but rued the check on the end. He's up
to 400,000 though while Thorson hovers around the 700,000 mark

Flushed With Success

James "Flushy" Dempsey is up to about 950,000 after taking a large pot from Jens Thorson.

Dempsey opened for 18,000 preflop, getting two callers including Thorson. The flop was a rainbow {9-?} {8-?} {5-?} and Dempsey continued his aggression, betting 34,500.

Thorson was the only caller and fired out 53,000 on {6-?} turn after Dempsey checked. The river was the {9-?} and Dempsey checked once more but called Thorson's 112,500 bet.

The Swede was forced to show {2-?} {2-?} but lost out to Dempsey's {5-?} {5-?}.

Dempsey took another little pot from Thorson after the Swede limped preflop on Dempsey's big blind before calling a 12,000 bet on a {10-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} board. The river {Q-Clubs} went check-check, Dempsey showed the hammer {7-Clubs} {2-Hearts} and again that was enough.

6.32pm: Dempsey out
James Dempsey is out. We did not see the action but he had pocket queens against Dmitry Stelmak's T♦J♦ - and Stelmak hit two pair on the flop. The turn was a king, adding an open-ended straight draw as outs for Dempsey, but he bricked the river. -- SY

Yesterday, one of the Swedes shoved for 600k at 40k/80k UTG. Piceci tanked for 2 minutes (would cost 1/3 of his stack) and got a count then folded 9-2o face up.

UB put her in her in to most things I'm guessing. There's an Italian law against non '.it' sites which is why she hasn't got a UB sticker on.

When people win events and just are never gonna lose the money back its bad for poker long term because it takes money out of the community- in a way thats a massive compliment to Liv anyway.

Liv Boeree (just as well she won, or else I would wasted the time writing this!)

Liv has come a long way in Poker terms. Having studied physics with astrophysics at the University of Manchester before moving to London, she was a peripheral figure on the London Poker scene when she caught a break when selected as one of five contestants ("poker virgins") in the reality TV show "Ultimatepoker.com Showdown" in late 2005 on Channel Five.

From then on she presented at the 2006 WSOP for the Gutshot and became a presenter/hostess at EPTs. She was, when a number of us met her at the APAT Welsh Event in the APAT second season in early 2008, a personable player. She final tabled that event but my memory of her play was that she was very tight, and very much like a card-rack early on Day 2!

From that point on though her relationship with Ultimate Bet dating back to that first TV appearance, and most especially a lot of mentoring and coaching from Annie Duke, began to come to the fore. In May 2009 she joined UB.com as one of their professional players, and represents them in tournaments around the world. This was a controversial move, at least within the UK Poker community, in the aftermath of the "SuperUser" scandal that by then had engulfed Absolute Bet and Ultimate Bet, whose logos she was now sporting at events on a Worldwide scale.

Before the San Remo EPT Liv had notched up live tournament cashes exceeding $230,000 including the Ladbrokes European Ladies Championships in May 2008, but throughout what was becoming a successful time on the felt it was easy for many to haughtily dismiss Liv merely as "eye candy" with features constantly in media and magazines such as Loaded Magazine, Maxim, Sport Magazine UK, World Poker Tour, GuitarWorld, Cardplayer, Bluff and Gambling Online.

However this result should reverse this perception. An EPT win through a record 1240 players and a €1,200,000 first prize tends to do that!

You could see how much it meant to her too. Congratulations to her.

Another 1m never to be seen in the poker community again

This kind of comment tilts me a little.  Pretty much everyone who gets a big cash is going to spend a significant part of it on themselves.  Whether it is a flash car, paying off the mortgage or murdering the credit card in a bar in the city.  The underlying seems to be credit card in bar, flash car is somehow OK, but buying property or paying off a mortgage are terrible.

The other fella who was heads up is supposedly a decent reg is probbaly even less likely to return his money to "the poker community".  The likely only way a significant chunk of the money gets returned from winning one of the big ones is if an abolutely lousy fish wins it, or possibly if one of Channing's stable does it!

Top result, who'd have thought it

Its not a bad thing on Liv but I know im right that in general money more likely to get filtered back in through a tourny reg winning!

Anyway its no big deal just a conversation we were having at dinner the other day on ideal tournament winners and ones where the money disappears. (Sherwood if u read this u were classed as the latter haha!)
