Title: APAT Hand from London
Post by: Rod on April 19, 2010, 11:39:43 AM
Hi All

Looking for a bit of feedback on this hand I played in London on the weekend. My opponent in the hand has been playing quite a tight game up to this point and has not really done much at all. It is still early on the blinds are only 50/100. I have a stack of nearly 12K he has just over 8K.

He raises it up to 350 for early position and I make the call with pocket eights.

The flop comes down Js-10c-2d

He checks, I check.

The Turn then comes down 8s

He bets out 600 into the pot of 850. I raise it up to 1500 and he immediately shoves

??????

biggest concern here is whether I have enough time to do a little dance and still beat him into the pot

When you say he's been playing quite tight - does that mean pre or post-flop?  Has he made any/many raises from early position so far?

To be totally honest I can't 100% remember from early position but am fairly confident in saying he had only made three raises and had cont bet at least twice and I think folded once when he got bet into. Can't recall the action on the table as well as I should. I know he was one of the least active players.

As it reads it doesn't sound that difficult to call - I suspect a draw but meh if he gets there you'll still have chips

Yeah I kinda levelled myself into folding, though I could not see what hand he was taking this linw with other than JJ ot 10-10, he later told me he had Kings. Pretty basic mistake the more I think about it !!

even tho i hate it when tight live players check flop and wake up on turn, i can't bring myself to fold a set here

exactly my thoughts. I don't actually love it because opponents line is sooo typical of a set.

I reckon about 2% of Apat players would shove the QKss or similar here.

Problem is most of your opponents don't understand hand strength that well or board textures so you can't really be passing sets.
