Title: Business Credit Card Transactions.
Post by: Tonji on May 04, 2010, 04:05:08 PM
From time to time I need to process credit/debit card payments. Usually a customer rings or emails with an order & I manually process on my Streamline terminal. But monthly charges don't seem to warrant with the amount of business done by this method.

Does anyone use or recommend another Merchant Card Services Provider?

I just changed to another provider and wanted to use the company you can use through the federation of small business but my book keeper was concerned about not using a mainstream provider so I went with one of the major banking ones. One of my colleagues using the federation of small businesses provider and says they are great and the cheapest around.

You do have to pay to be a member of the FSB - worth bearing in mind.  I've heard good things about their 'offers' to members though.

If you take payments over the phone, you may be able to get a web based payment scheme with a bank.  We use HSBC for our online payments from our website and part of the thing with them is that I can take payments over the phone and process them on the secure website (we get a web log in thing to check our payments etc)    It should be cheaper than using Streamline (although we have that too) as you don't need to rent a terminal, but as for the monthly charges, I'm not 100% sure I'm afraid.  Not the best if someone comes to see you with a credit card.
