Title: GUKPT Coventry thread
Post by: TightEnd on May 17, 2010, 06:14:41 PM
The 5th leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour is now underway at the fabulous G Casino at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The festival runs from 17th - 23rd May. At this stop of the tour there is just one starting day for the main event, which gets underway at 2pm on Friday 21st and concludes on Sunday 23rd. It is the first time the main tour has visited this superb casino, however, last year Thomas Besnier from France was victorious here in the Summer Series main event.

The full schedule of tournaments taking place at the festival is as follows:

Monday 17th - 7.30pm - £200 NL Hold'em Freezeout

Tuesday 18th - 7.30pm - £100 NL Hold'em Rebuy

Wednesday 19th - 7.30pm - £300 NL Hold'em Freezeout

Thursdsay 20th - 6.00pm - £250 PL Omaha Double Chance Freezeout

Thursday 20th - 8.30pm - £150 NL Hold'em Freezeout Super Satellite to the Main Event

Friday 21st - 2.00pm - £1,000 NL Hold'em Main Event

Friday 21st - 7.30pm - £100 NL Hold'em Freezeout

Saturday 22nd - 7.30pm - £250 NL Hold'em Freezeout

Sunday 23rd - 5.00pm - £100 NL Hold'em Bounty Freezeout

There are also further super satellites into the main event at 2pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the festival week. These will either be £30 or £50 rebuy tournaments.

For further details on the festival and information about how to get to the casino, please visit www.gukpt.com

Playing Thursday 20th - 6.00pm - £250 PL Omaha Double Chance Freezeout

Friday 21st - 2.00pm - £1,000 NL Hold'em Main Event

and knowing how I run in GUKPTs, Friday 21st - 7.30pm - £100 NL Hold'em Freezeout

For those unaware you can buyin directly on the blue square site if worried about a possible cap with only one day one.

I can't decide if the proximity of the DTD event at DTD which is only an hour or so down the road will result in a loss of runners.  I personally hope they continue with the £1000 buyins next year and don't drop it to £500.   I don't think I'd bother if it was much less, simply because hotels/petrol etc is a much bigger percentage of a £500 event.

Does look ok although thats only a quarter or so of the field and u can assume people that post and frequent poker forums/sites are gonna be better than the people who dont, on average of course.

He's lost two big pots. 85 vs KQ on Q83 board. Peeled a re raise with AJ and got it in on a J high board against Kings

Perrins bubbled. Again flopped two pair and got it in on the turn against his opponent who'd made a straight!

bobAlike out in 11th on FT bubble - ran T9ss into QQ of Tom Mannion

according to the updates he raise-called SB vs BB but i'm guessing his raise must have been large enough to commit him. Ul to just miss out on the final anyway.

Gogogo Stu!

Cheers Tighty.

Really enjoyed myself over the last 2 days. Stayed focussed for 99% of the time and then blew it...
I knew I was behind with the 109ss but thought I'dchance it for a needed double up.

I've played 4 GUKPTs now with 2 cashes, so overall pleased.

My picks for today are:

1, Hassan - Known him a few years now, very capable
2, Stu - Played on Stu's table late on day 1. I think he was down to around 5K at one point. Done extemely well to FT.
3, Roberto - On Roberto's table all day yesterday, probably the most impressive player I've ever played against. Unfortunatley made a couple of bad calls yesterday which demolished his huge chip lead.

Good look to them all!

 Rutter Rampant at Coventry GUKPT

Birmingham's Stuart Rutter has won the 5th leg of the 2010 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour at the G Casino in Coventry. He defeated a field of 142 players in the three-day tournament to bank the first prize of £41,910 and claim his seat in the tour's £150,000 Champion of Champions tournament. The 27-year-old Oxford mathematics graduate, now a professional poker player sponsored by gcasino.com was competing in a record equalling 4th GUKPT main event final table. He defeated Danny Toffel from Banstead after a cagey heads up encounter. After eliminating Darren Grosvenor from Glasgow in third place he took a commanding chip lead into the final stage of the tournament. However the 40-year-old company director did not roll over easily and despite being suffering a 6-1 chip deficit, the heads up play continued for almost two hours before reaching its eventual conclusion. In the last hand he had pocket nines versus Toffel's pocket fours to eventually claim victory.

During his post-tournament celebrations Rutter praised the staff at the Coventry venue, saying

“The tournament has been fantastically run throughout all three days and this is the perfect venue for this poker tour. Playing the final table on the stage in the show bar is an experience I'll never forget. I'd also like to thank my sponsor gcasino.com, who have given me the opportunity to play in all the GUKPT main events this year.”

He went on to say

“This win is absolutely perfect timing coming just one week before I set off for Vegas and the WSOP. It gives me a great confidence boost which I always struggle for on the GUKPT having made three previous final tables and seeing them go wrong each time.”

Also competing in the ten-man final was former champion Jeff Kimber, who was also taking part in his 4th main event final table. He exited in 6th place, having been short-stacked throughout the final day of the tournament. Welsh mouthpiece Roberto Romanello, who claimed 7th was yet another player on the final to have made it to four main event final tables. Hassan Mohammed, a lawyer from Birmingham finished 4th while former poker dealer Tom Mannion from Coventry had gone into the final as the chip leader, but departed in 5th place. Rupert Elder from Bury St Edmunds had been chip leader for much of the second day of the tournament, but the cards deserted him on the final day and he was eliminated in 8th. Poker journalist and host Nick Wealthall, who was competing in his very first GUKPT main event finished in 9th place while record producer Leon Campbell from London completed the final table line in 10th place.

The GUKPT Main Tour now takes a seasonal break, but the poker action continues next week when the tour's little sister, the Summer Series gets under way simultaneously in two separate venues. The first of these mini-festivals begins on Wednesday 26th May at the G Casino in Blackpool with several days of warm up events before the £500 main event takes place over the bank holiday on Sunday 30th & Monday 31st May. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the country at the G Casino in Thanet, Kent, the second of these festivals begins on Friday 29th, culminating in a £300 main event, also taking place on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st May. A further eight GUKPT Summer Series festivals take place over the next three months taking in Newcastle, Aberdeen, Dundee, Walsall, Luton, Sheffield, Manchester and London. The main tour recommences in August when the 6th leg takes place at the G Casino, Luton from 7th - 15th August. The full schedule of remaining festivals on the 2010 tour can be found on the official GUKPT website at www.gukpt.com.

The Result

Place Player Prize GUKPT Ranking Points
1st Stuart Rutter £41,910 100
2nd Danny Toffel £29,460 80
3rd Darren Grosvenor £18,460 64
