Title: Re: million pound drop Post by: lazaroonie on May 25, 2010, 03:58:49 PM ha, this is so com.
it is somewhat bad, and Davina manages to completely mangle the whole presenting job, but there is something brilliant about watching two people who have obviously got an over inflated opinion of their own intelligence watch their dreams of untold riches slowly being eroded question by question, and then their complete disbelief as they watch the last few bundles, quite literally go down the tubes.... Title: Re: million pound drop Post by: Cf on May 25, 2010, 04:47:50 PM Just watched it. Interesting idea but I'm not sure it works. Completely ignoring the fact that it's massively drawn out I think there are some flaws with the fundamental idea.
Obviously, no-one is going to win £1m. DOND do a similar thing in that they can offer a £250k first prize daily knowing that it's v v rarely going to actually be won. But the problem with a start with the money and lose it with wrong answers format is that the questions are generally too hard as the programme maker needs to protect itself against everyone winning the jackpot. Things like who had the youngest number 1 single and the age difference being 3 years is daft as people aren't going to be 100% sure of this sort of thing meaning they need to spread there money. You can't do this over 8 questions though as you're quickly left with a tiny amount. Also. All boxes should drop at the same time. That'd be much more fun than yet another effort by a quiz show ffs trying to be suspensful. Title: Re: million pound drop Post by: redsimon on May 25, 2010, 04:52:30 PM Just watched it. Hedging in the first four questions seems ridic both in terms of maximizing EV and for maximizing your 'in the money' %. For the first four, bunging it all on a hunch/educated guess looks to be the way forward. Not interesting enough to watch again though. Quiz shows that ask three questions between ad breaks = waste of a life. On the very first MPD show, when the very first contestants decided to put all their money on one answer on the very first question, she made one of her usual braindead comments "Oh my god, if this loses, you could become the shortest lived contestants we have had on the show." Fuck off you useless gurning muppet. I've never applied to go on a show in my life but me and my mate applied for this and the contestants are all so thick there must be some kind of selection process (maybe 3 spelling mistakes minimum on your application to be considered?) that we were actually a little happy we weren't picked. Davina is better on here than BB imo. But she's still shite. Davina succeeded because of Big Brother, NOT the other way round, although most of those in TV will never realise as much. Someone on another forum asked whether the contestants on MPD were failed Big Brother applicants. This could be a very good shout imo. Also, Big Brother has normally kicked off by now. Why delay it for this guff? They are so convinced we all love Davina so much that we can't resist tuning in to see her in early summer, whatever she's on. Misread.
