Title: Red Cross - Help Train Taliban !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: BigArmo on May 26, 2010, 11:49:06 AM

The Red Cross in Afghanistan has been teaching the Taliban basic first aid and giving insurgents medical equipment so that fighters wounded during battles with Nato and Afghan government forces can be treated in the field, it was revealed today.

This just feels so wrong to me, we probally all know someone in the Armed Forces and have all given to to the Red Cross at some point.
Well i think F**k em let the Taliban die............

I thought the Red Cross were meant to be impartial, neutral and independent?

You obviously think that the Afghans are the 'bad guys' here and deserve to suffer and die.  What about in Iraq, who deserves medical aid there - or more importantly, who doesn't?  What about in Rwanda, China, Bosnia, Northern Ireland during the conflict...?

Was quite careful to use the word "Taliban" and not Afgan, and i agree the Red Cross are only doing there job in being neutral.
Like i said just feels wrong.
By the way the Taliban are the 'bad guys'

Lol Dan on the high horse again.

The forces do this themselves also, after any battle with the Taliban or whoever, one of the first priorities is to tend to the wounded, regardless of which side they have fought for.

In Gulf war 1 our medics probably tended to more Iraqis than British soldiers. The Red Cross is an extension of the generosity and sense of fair play that we Brits have, unfortunately this attitude often hinders us, however it's an attitude I am proud we have.

Red Cross isn't British - it's a worldwide organisation originally founded by a Swiss bloke. I think it's a very good thing that they're impartial and neutral, personally.

On my high horse?  Was just highlighting that the Red Cross (and Red Crescent) doesn't take sides and treats people from all sides.  Similar to a doctor's Hippocratic Oath, where the patient's needs come first and foremost.

The OP posted something that was intentionally provoking and controversial and I merely asked some questions as to where he'd draw the line in determining who gets the aid and who doesn't.

I see Dale Peterson has started a worrying trend of dragging horses into politics.

Love it!!  From a purly humanitarian stand point I understand what the Red Cross does and agree with it. However from a selfish stand point the Taliban are trying to kill my relatives and friends so I say the hell with them. Now they maybe have the same opinion of me. I'm fine with that.

ok one of the few things about this country i am still passionate about
i was a meber of the armed forces and served in bosnia 1n 1994
it is of upmost importance to render first aid to injured personel during any conflint irespective of taliban or britsh/nato forces
its part of the pride of the best army in the world to uphold our respect to even our enermies so yes the red cross should teach first aid

And our forces are trying to kill theirs & being a hell of a lot more successful about it. I despair for our country when thousands of theirs is just retribution for a few of ours. Of course who trained the Taliban..... USA & UK... but we bomb and invade countries that train terrorists - it doesn't add up really.
