Title: Eurovision song contest
Post by: Chompy on May 29, 2010, 10:28:05 AM
I'm in good shape going in to tonight, thanks to backing Azerbaijan at 11-2 and laying off at 6-4 on bettyfair.
Anyone else play this in-running? Best night's IR action of the year imo.

Unf Azerbaijain have landed the coffin box and will be first up. I'm no major believer in Eurovision trends (Norway would have won from the one slot last year) but recent history suggests it's very hard to win singing first.

I reckon there'll be a very easy trade here. At the moment Azerbaijan are around the 3.8 mark. It's an obv contender so I'm expecting the price to contract while she's on stage and will be looking to lay at around 3.2. An hour afterwards the price should be back to around 4 imo. It's a plan anyway.

UK to finish last at around 6-4 is money in the bank I feel.

Totally agree it's like printing money in running.

Haven't set out my plan yet for trades but will do some research later on and most likely go from there.

Ive already snagged some early value on denmark@20s-now 16s and turkey@33s-now 12s. I also took some 12s on israel which hasn't moved much and russia@33s to place in the top 4 and outright at 190s...which is now 240 odd...ahem.

As these were all small punts i'll probably just leaves these as fun bets, whilst taking the trading more seriously.

Hopefully win a vegas roll from all this!

If I had a clue, I'd have a few quid on it.  May follow the Azerbaijain tip and lay as she's singing.

Nice one for starting things off Chompster. I'm due to go to a drinking-game-Eurovision night tonight, might bring the credit card and laptop with me if it's as easy as you say to trade.

So you're basically saying that there is a lot of short-sighted money on these markets IP, and that I should be laying while they sing and then backing back later? Or was that just with Azerbijan as they're first up?

Any outsiders worth a few quid? Has a 100+/1 shot ever won before? I've hardly watched EV before, isn't it just neighbouring countries voting for each other?

Best song always wins, despite what everyone believes about political voting.
The market is rarely wrong these days. It's been up for months and all rehearsals are available on youtube. Ergo, outsiders can be ignored imo.
Not like the old days. Denmark were backed from 100-1 into 5-2 on the night when they won it around the turn of the decade.
Azer is my only pre-planned trade. Just trust your opinions Greg, this is the most fun IR market EVER.

Sweet. Will you be online throughout Chompy-foxtrot-tango-echo-golf-lima-octapus-up ?

I like making money, would appreciate your advice as I've never sat through a whole Eurovision before. And i'll be drunk.

Will be on this thread throughout the whole shebang sir. Chances are 90% of what I do will be during the voting stage but will put my thoughts up for those what is interested.

Was 2 lazy to do much research and have just plled in following u here chomps, backed azerbajjan on outrights hoping to lay off at 3.2. Will do most trading later in voting stage.

Lol-now i know why i rarely trade anymore, i change my opinion too quickly.

Started off thinking wow she's a complete hottie, that opinion didn't really change.

However i did initially think the song started off ok, but then became rather boring and said hottie's voice weakened dramatically imo.

Betfair seemed to agree as altho it dropped to 3.4 it soon rose to 3.75. I got out around 3.6 and have now laid them with a view to greening out later at a much larger price. i don't see azer winning.

Moldova 80's act rocked.

Norway would get 0 points if it was held held there this year. That guy was awful.

Backing Denmark, just a punt in the hope the price will come down a bit.

Title: Re: Eurovision song contest
Post by: Chompy on May 29, 2010, 08:41:23 PM
Meh, I was just thinking Moldova is a jigger for finishing last if I could nick some 20-odd. Drawn four and completely forgetable imo.
I'll back Azer again when and if they hit 4.2.
Can't have Denmark Silo, catchy but kinda dated.

Post by: Graham C on May 29, 2010, 08:45:36 PM
Doh!  Will try and get out for less that I'm in for then :D  Ta

Thoughts on Israel?   Just looking at acts that have been around 5-7 or so and are currently trading at 15-20.   Guess actually watching some of them would be an idea.

Quite like this Belgium one, nice song

Title: Re: Eurovision song contest
Post by: Chompy on May 29, 2010, 08:49:29 PM
Israel is wayyyyyyy too depressing. It's a good song but he doesn't sell it imo.
Azer have now hit 4.3 but I'm gonna sit tight for now. Won't be coming back in for the time being. Will trade at 4.6.
What you done with Azer Greg?

Title: Re: Eurovision song contest
Post by: Chompy on May 29, 2010, 08:52:13 PM
LOLZ at the snowball Eurovision market, Azer is now getting towards a crazy price. Half traded back at 4.6, will see where the market goes in the next ten mins and then re-think.
A lot of the quality is still to come and not impossible Azer could hit something stupid like 6.

Go the UK!!!!!
If only Pete Waterman could build a time machine to go with his shit song and Astley-alike, and take us back to 1988, we'd walk it.

All bets held on Germany until the performance. Nice, quirky song and an obv winner if she pulls it off but the rehearsal suggests she could be all or nothing.

I'm in good shape going in to tonight, thanks to backing Azerbaijan at 11-2 and laying off at 6-4 on bettyfair.
Anyone else play this in-running? Best night's IR action of the year imo.

This

Ive tied up the following after only 8 songs:

Belguim = £35.20
Norway = £78.80
Bosnia Herzegovina = £43.72
Serbia = -£8 Loss, cos it was shite and i couldn't get all my money out in time!

roll on the rest

I am a cock and tried to be too greedy, i now have 3 songs i cant get out off, so if Norway, Greece or UK win, i stand to win £1,000+!!

Only way out now, is for some 12 pointer's to fly their way, and im out!

Never try to be too greedy or you'll ruin a winning formula!

Title: Re: Eurovision song contest
Post by: Sighmuns on May 29, 2010, 09:27:26 PM
This is not going well.

I laid Azer and backed them back chomp... currently losing a small amount, hoping to green them later.

Please give me something coming up to lump on then lay to save my book. I'm drinking more because I'm losing and getting more desperate. FFS I spend all day at work trading these markets and I've hardly got a thing right so far :(.

Big liability on Ireland due to a mistrade and panic bet. Decent on Israel, Turkey and Armenia.

No more obvo trades left imo unless you want to take an early opinion into the Germany performance.

If, let's say, I were to proclaim this my favourite day of the year because of the IR action on Eurovision and Cartmel in-between times, would that make me sad?

Top-class intermission act, wp Norway imo.
Fastes-finger first then for when the votes come in from that first jury.
If it's the same as last year they'll stick the 1-6 point acts up without calling them by name, and then give the 7, 8, 10, 12 pint jobbies out.

Next time we win this thing I am going to the final the year after, no doubt.

Took a chunk out of Azer to finish top four at 1.5 after they'd picked up 3pts from the first two juries. Otherwise it would have been a loss.

Didn't Denmark get 12pts from both the first two juries? Standard over-reaction there. Same happened with Russia a few years ago.
Told you it was fun, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Amazing how i've managed to make a loss on this.

I copped both turkey and denmark ew bets.

Then i greened out nicely on my azer lay early on in the voting.

But i took a big position on laying germany at 1.08 when there were still 25 odd countries to vote, then waded back in at 1.16.

Never greened it up and ended up with a largish loss.

Thats me done with trading for the moment, i am just not cut out for it.

Printing money i said and a vegas roll. More like throwing away hard earned and a roll not even large enough for a hot dog.

Wd chomps, knew ud get the lot as usual m8, mbn to be so good at gambling...bar the poker of crse! :)
