Title: England V Japan Post by: Josedinho on May 30, 2010, 11:04:29 AM England -1 is 4/5. I took some 17/20 before the team was announced but getting involved again today. Japan really aren't a good team and not been impressive in their pre world cup games. Mexico probably alot stronger and we were poor and still managed to win by 2.
We've got the Chelsea players back mixed in with a few players that need to impress to make the 23. -2 is 11/5 in places i think and i wouldn't put anybody of that i think it could be 4-0. I've lumped on -1 and had Bent 5-0 for a bit of fun. Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: Woodsey on May 30, 2010, 11:09:48 AM [X] GL

Although i kinda agree that england should win by the odd goal, -1@4/5 isn't the great bet it sounded to me. What that actually is is england-1.5. The reason for that is that it's a 3 way market which means if england win by 1 you still lose, if it was -1 and england won by 1 you'd get your cash back, and 4/5 on this price is huge value. The same is true with the -2 market they use. It just dresses up the market nicely for them and makes it look better than it is, cheeky wording by the books again. The bet for me might be england -1.25 @1.62, because then if england only win by 1 i'll only lose half my stake, i always like an out if possible, and it's always gotta be value, that's with 365. Not really a working man's price i guess though. and i'll prob try find something a bit juicier. Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: Nico29 on May 30, 2010, 01:04:01 PM Ok done my losin...i mean bets.
England 3-0@8-1, 3-1@14-1, 4-1@20-1, 5-0@28-1. Theo walcott fgs@14-1, glen johnson fgs@35-1&anytime@14-1. Im sure afterwards i'll just go, y o y didn't i just stick with england -1.25, oh well aftertiming already! :) Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: stribling on May 30, 2010, 01:17:11 PM Well I was taking in by the wording on Ladbrokes...

Couldnt they just take him as a 3rd pilot instead? Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: TightEnd on May 30, 2010, 08:59:12 PM Heskey has never been a natural goalscorer, I have been watching him since an 18 year old and he just is not. What he is is a physical presence that makes flair players around him play better. Rooney and Owen notably for England. Back for Leicester under O'Neill he prolonged Tony Cottee's career for two years as he scored a shed load up top alongside Heskey. We then got a great price for him, £11m from Houllier/Liverpool and he was never going to meet those expectations, since when he has contributed at Birmingham, Wigan and Villa
Now I would be the first to coincede that if he makes the 23 it will because there are a lack of alternatives at "target man" but I would contend this reflects worse on the ability of Darren Bent, Carlton Cole and others who will not be picked than it does Heskey who will do a job in certain matches should Capello want a presence up top for 60 minutes or so Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: Girgy85 on May 30, 2010, 09:01:00 PM Heskey has never been a natural goalscorer, I have been watching him since an 18 year old and he just is not. Yes, but you have to take more than one big guy right? What happens if Crouch goes down?...you just have the little uns.... 4-5 strikers....Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Heskey all bases covered. Bent just isn't good enough either Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: Girgy85 on May 30, 2010, 09:05:14 PM Heskey has never been a natural goalscorer, I have been watching him since an 18 year old and he just is not. Scored no goals at all season after season until this as well Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: Nico29 on May 30, 2010, 09:29:45 PM People so easily concentrate just on goals with strikers like heskey.
Those players such as rooney love playing with this type of partner up front, he does all the donkey work and assists in other areas than goals. It's like poker with those that are results orientated, just because some1 has a couple of big results doesn't mean they are a great player. And just because darren bent has scored 25 goals odd dsnt make him world class. Emile heskey has been doing his job for years and years, every striker he ever plays with raves about how great it is to play alongside such an unselfish player. Look im not the biggest fan, i just get annoyed by ill informed vague statements like 'heskey is crap etc..' I actually backed bent@7-2 to make the final 23, dsnt mean i think he will/should do, just thought he was value to do so. Crouch isn't a target man he just happens to be tall. He's actually a decent footballer but is labelled a target man. Heskey puts himself about and creates space for Wazza but Crouch likes to come short and collect the ball into feet. Both should go but having Crouch doesn't mean we don't need Heskey.
If we don't got 451 (which we should) i'd still start Heskey with Rooney and leave Crouch as an impact sub if we need a goal. Title: Re: England V Japan Post by: Nico29 on May 31, 2010, 02:38:54 AM I actually backed bent@7-2 to make the final 23 Nico i dont know whether your a absolute legend or a complete clown. Eurovision "trading", every Irish horse race you can shake a stick at and now betting on players to make World Cup squads. I thought i was bad but is there actually anything you don't bet on? Who are you on for Britains Got Talent this week? Not much i don't bet on nope. Having said that BGT is about the only thing I don't watch. I used to make the absolute lot on eurovision, nowadays i can't seem to 'trade' for toffee. That bent bet looks bad now tbh, but i did it a couple of weeks back when one bookie was way out of line with other firms. Doubt i'd take less than 5/6/1 on him making the squad now, a diff peformance against japan and i'd have been happy with my 7/2. I'd like to say i'm a legend, but the clown tag might be more fair when you consider everything. Still believe there is nothing wrong with backing in every mickey mouse race possible if it's a dirty ew though.
