Title: Glastonbury
Post by: Bongo on June 14, 2010, 04:47:09 PM
Who else is going? I know there was an old thread but all I can find on search is the threads from 2008 and 2009. Who's up for meeting up for a quick drink?

Does anyone know what time the traffic starts to get busy? I'm trying to figure out what time to leave to dodge the worst of the traffic.

I'm setting off about 8am on Saturday  ;yippee;

For those who are paying guests the car parks will be open on Tuesday night to avoid the traffic jams that occurred last year. (some folks had taken over 8 hours from Bristol ...)

Car parks open at 9pm but no entertainment, no food, no facilities.... The gates don't open till 8am on Wednesday - I'll be there to check your tickets and smile. I( do three shifts for Oxfam and that Wednesday morning one will be my final contribution  ;D

More info here http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/getting-here/

Enjoy!

Well I'm leaving brum at some point on Weds. Wondering whether it's 6am or 4am or 8am... I'm usually pretty good at arriving at Reading with about 3 cars ahead of me in the distance and a queue behind me...

The traffic onto the site may be quiet on Wednesday but if there are loads of cars already parking up overnight the queues for ticket checking and wristband exchange are likely be rather long first thing.

Traditionally car parks, roads etc busy 7am till 10am and then a lull till mid afternoon on the Wednesday, but its still crazy, and of course its always better coming from the South Red W32 ftw.
With the car parks opening Tuesday and the world cup game Wednesday I expect it to be all messed up - just leave as early as possible, late is bad.

This years festival sees me break 100 days on Worthy farm and my 15th Glasto and I am as excited this year as I was for the first.
The obligatory virgin of the group is Boo this year, so that should be fun and his excitement is quite infectious - come share the fun, always enough cider from Roger's for all.

Ahhh 5 days till Roger's cider, 7 till the solstice and 9 till gates open, I love life.

the earlier you get there wednesday the less the queues will be from motorway, get there at 10-12am you can expect 3-4hrs queing, 6am hardly any. one you are parked the queues to actualy get in are never that bad.

if you're taking a lot of gear make sure you have a good sturdy trolley and roll of cling film to wrap round your stuff. depends which car park you end up as to how far the walk is, if you are taking a van then you can park by the gate for some reason.

don't rush into a camping spot keep walking for a good while, don't camp at the bottom of the hill on your right by the main path, anywhere up the hills are cool, don't camp by paths.

set up camp as quickly as possible then head out and get completely spannered for 5 days.

breaking my 10 year ever present record this year, stupid fucking wedding. i actually feel upset typing it.

Had a great time, slightly marred by someone trying, and failing, to burgle my tent was I was sleeping. Luckily the gf noticed and he ran away. I woke up midway through and shouted and was told "calm down, there was a man in the tent". Obv knows I like my sleep...

Glasto was excellent.

Highlights for me were ,the incredible weather, Ray Davies singing Sunny Afternoon as the sun beat down on us , Slash - the guy can rock ! , Neville Staples , Broken Bells - very impressive , Steve Harley and of course Stevie Wonder - my legs forgot how tired they were once the opening bars of Masterblaster kicked in.

Less Impressive were burnt feet and knees (sigh), the hike up Glastonbury Tor (so tiring but a magnificent view), Scissor Sisters (saved from a very disappointing rating by the appearence of Kylie) , Muse (promised much with a great opening but failed to deliver)

Very disappointing ....my stamina whilst carrying my equipment onto site ,  Faithless (wanted so much to enjoy them but was so so disappointed), sky + failing to record anything.

Have to say an enormous thanks to Nakor for pre festival advice , transport and for being an absolute font of Glasto Knowledge, bless you Sir , the last nine days have been fucking amazing.

Roll on 2011  !

I only saw Muse of those you listed, and only the backend of them as I was watching Laura Marling on the Park stage prior to that.

Title: Re: Glastonbury

open up as many windows as you can tile on screen, bang in the url I posted and just let them all autorefresh. shouldn't be too long until one of them changes to the purchase screen

and use firefox if you've got it, people have been having problems on ie and chrome kicks you out half way through the buying process

Do it! You won't be able to next year.

Zingzillas headlining the Kidzfield is a winner :-)

Other highlights to make some sort of plan for... Primal Scream, John Cooper Clarke, Hurts, Steve Frost's Improv AllStars, Mundo jazz and the rest of it we'll make up as we go along
