Title: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: AlrightJack on June 06, 2005, 01:15:59 PM Sorry to say it remains an attempt. James (Royal Flush) was forced to give up after 66 hours of continuous heads up play. He needed to go for 72 to break the world record. However, James did fantastically well. Last I heard he was over 400 up - considering most of the games were for a fiver thats pretty good. Made some money for poker4charity, which we all like to see.
I played him three times during the attempt and shamefully he won all three of them. In one he outflushed me, in another he outstraighted me. In my defence, I was a little bit tired yesterday, having not had a very good night's sleep, hehe. Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 06, 2005, 01:25:47 PM James lose nothing in faulire, a big up to him.
How much was raised for P4C? Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Foxy on June 06, 2005, 01:42:34 PM 66 hours :o thats bonkers but well done to James. Can you tell us why he had to give up ?
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 06, 2005, 01:44:00 PM The thought of playing AlrightJack a 4th time I gather.....
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Foxy on June 06, 2005, 01:46:10 PM Alright Jack are you the chap who has got a Blue Square shirt on all the time and you watch the uk touneys ? Do you sleep in that shirt ? How meny you got mate ? ;D
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: AlrightJack on June 06, 2005, 01:52:50 PM Yes, I'm at all the Grosvenor festivals watching (cos I'm barred from playing there :-( ), but recently I've dispensed of the blue square t-shirts for a whistle and flute. I do have a quite a few of those t-shirts - never worn one twice in a row though.
James had to give up cos of the effects of sleep deprivation - on Sunday afternoon he said the flops looked like bags of luggage being placed outside a hotel room door. However, I'm told he said he had thoroughly enjoyed last few hours of play and was about to guess at Miss Scarlett in the drawing room with the lead piping before they called time on him. I'm sure he would have been right. Tikay, having beaten me three times already, the though of playing me again might just have kept him going - if'd been there then... Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Foxy on June 06, 2005, 02:09:26 PM Thanks Jack ive spoke to you before havent I ? Are you realy barred from playing poker ? that sound interesting, but im not nosey :-* So how come your barred? :-\
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Ironside on June 06, 2005, 02:12:48 PM bluesquare and grovenor are in the same group, and as such they really cant be seen to having a house player on there table just incase yogi has to make a ruling and a punter complains
also as blue square is the sponsor of all grovenor events then we cant have the sponsor running off with all the money Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 06, 2005, 02:16:29 PM Yeah, but he'd never win.......
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: AlrightJack on June 06, 2005, 02:32:32 PM Yes we have spoken briefly Foxy, but not had a proper chat/drink yet. Will do some time soon I'm sure.
Tis true what ironside says - I used to get away with playing in Grosvenor card rooms, until Rank head office found out :-( I did try to plead my case to let me carry on playing including the 'I add value to these tournaments' (cos I never win Tikay) line, but even that didn't work. Now if anyone wants to stage another fancy dress tournament I would fancy my chances. 1/1 for me in fancy dress comps. hehe. I got a trophy n'all - but it has since been dropped :-( Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: BlueWolf on June 06, 2005, 04:27:25 PM you dropping a trophy??? nooooooo, after alll your hard work in Blackpool ( holding beer bottles anyway lol)
At elast you can play in non grosvenor cardrooms i cant even do that, even my plan to tacklwe the gutshot was shot down :( So hence i'm stuck playin with fools on the net :( and doin me spuds at the moment hehehe. Wouldnt mind doin a fancy dress comp here in Blackpool might brighten up my sundays and get some of em outta them stupid self publising tracksuits taht are oh so common up here Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: AlrightJack on June 06, 2005, 04:57:03 PM It wasn't even me who dropped this one. Mrs AlrightJack did that when dusting the flat. She claims it was an accident, but I'm not so sure. The 'ahh, you and your ******* pokah' comment she made the night before might have been the clue.
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: BlueWolf on June 06, 2005, 05:25:15 PM perfect couple then lol hope you dont go shoppin for crystal together lmao could get expensive hehe
Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 06, 2005, 06:27:25 PM Fancy dress at Blackpool? You mean Howard is NOT in fancy dress?
PS - Let me know if you wanna borrow my shorts. Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: BlueWolf on June 06, 2005, 06:32:49 PM nah tony better not, dont think management would appreciate us being raided by the fashion police lmao

Would look good on my CV and may get me taken a little more seriously lol although theres always the crack if i was doin it for personal reasons lol Not many ways we staff can get involved in P4C and yogis already done his bit lol Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 06, 2005, 07:52:06 PM Without the Blackpool crew - Yogi, Wolfy, the dealers & just about everybody up there, the H-U jobbie would never have happened. Now it's gonna be a fixture, Luton next, & even better, P4C are gonna earn out of it.
And there will ALWAYS be a Notts-Blackpool challenge from now on, every Fessie. You never know, Blackpool may even win one. Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Robert HM on June 07, 2005, 12:59:31 AM Sorry to say it remains an attempt. In my defence, I was a little bit tired yesterday, having not had a very good night's sleep, hehe. There is an argument that it James did achieve a record; I understand that the 72 hour record was a ring game and certainly not as arduous as this H-U session. I got to play him and won his chips but, after 50 hours play, the poor lad was mistaking the button for a chip and thought all his own chips were trains, so I didnt win any bragging rights there nor did I have the heart to cash the chips in. Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: BlueWolf on June 07, 2005, 04:52:30 AM does it matter in a way? james is a hero for even going that far and putting himself on the line for others less fortunate.
cant seem to find any records for poker dealing, me and yogi might give this a go Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Ironside on June 07, 2005, 01:52:56 PM you and yogi deal? i have been to blackpool twice and still to see you 2 pick up a single card,
now if there was a record for standing round sucking a thumb while getting the staff to deal you 2 might have a chance Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 01:57:06 PM Whahoo! Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: BlueWolf on June 07, 2005, 05:49:25 PM You only seem to come when i get away from dealing hehehehehe apart from 2 weeks a year its all i do.
and i actually have photographic evidence of Yogi dealing during the last festival lol Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 05:54:03 PM Evidence required please. I hope VCPOKER.COM the sponsors of the event felt they got value for money from this attempt. If anyone would like to register their thanks and praise for their sponsorship please email Andy Horne and let him know at andy.horne@vcint.com.
Bring on the heads up challenge................................................................................ and a couple of days off. Title: Re: James Dempsey's World Record attempt Post by: Royal Flush on June 12, 2005, 02:22:03 PM thankyou all for the support i got doing this.

Someone mention trains? What do you want to know?
As a matter of interest - great interest - I was in York today, just in time to catch the 2.49 Virgin Voyager back to Derby (stopping at Leeds, Doncaster, Sheffield & Chesterfield). But York is such a fascinatng station, with the Virgin Main Line (I hate that poofter Branson with his wooly jumpers & plastic trains, pah!) & GNER - "The Route of the Flying Scotsman" emblazoned on the side of each carriage, running through parallel island platforms. So I decided to miss that one & catch the next an hour later. Wht an hour I had - fascinating stuff. Moved up 20 odd years ago, I absolutely love it. To drive daily past sheeps & cows and all that green grass stuff, & those sticky-up things - trees are they? - it's just beautiful. Plus there is Derby Railway Works. I love buses, especially the old RT's, though with time, I gradually warmed to the RM's. I saw an RT in Africa once, amazing. They have one at York Railway Museum, too.
