Title: What are the odds please
Post by: sofa----king on June 26, 2010, 04:26:24 PM
Another one of my good ideas
I need to find out what the odds are for rolling 6 dice
in one go and them all being 6's

cheers

1 in 46656.

If you're thinking about 'pay a pound and if you roll six sixes you win a car' that's already a well established promotion.

No offence intended Sofa but if you seriously didn't know that this is 6x6x6x6x6x6 then I'd recommend you stick to non statistics related money making schemes.

I have done very well out of life.,.,.regardless
as to knowing answers to some things
I was just thinking how since the age of 10
I worked for my self I've never had a boss
and that's the way it's allways been
all the different moneymaking ideas I've had
have allways been very profitable
and enabled me to by my first house for cash 15 years ago
ive been lucky enough to live a balla lifestyle
I have also lived the otherside of the coin
when money been tight
one big thing I learnt along the way is never ever ever
burn bridges
and allways be nice to everbody you never know when you might
need somones help

God knows mate.

Might've been able to do it 16 years ago when I was at college but those thought processes are long gone :)

Do you think you'd be able to get enough people to do the car thing to make it worth while?

Seems a big risk for very little reward to me.

No it's not that simple I don't think mate.

You've got a 6/49 chance to get your first one then 5/48 chance then 4/47 etc.

So I guess 49/6 * 48/5 * 47/4 * 46/3 * 45/2 * 44 = 13983816

Or to put it another way,
49!/(43!*6!)

Oh yeah, that would be getting it in the right order.

We need some permutations!

6 over 49 times 5 over 48 times 4 over 47...

I was looking at something similar 20 years ago the only difference being was that you had to throw doublle 6 three times on the bounce to win 10k for a pound entry.
There were, and probably still are insurance companies who provide insurance cover to cater for this market. I think the company was called Holdfast but can't quite remember.

The old favourite was in big golf tournaments that a hole in one would win a car as a prize. This was always insured against at a premium of 10%. The clever way of insuring was to get a local car dealer to put up the premium as a way of advertising and a promise you'd let them supply the car.

Sneaky. Throwing double 6 three times seems a lot easier than throwing all 6 at once when in actual fact it's exactly the same.

Brilliant.

Also means buying less dice.

I wonder if anyone has ever won the car on the hole-in-one golf at Alton Towers?!
