Title: Bartering with High Street Shops?
Post by: Girgy85 on August 08, 2010, 08:34:23 PM
Me pops is looking for a new TV. Hes looking at a Samsung 40"er and hes also gonna ship me a new tomtom which he has seen in Curry's. Hes gonna pay cash so I'm wondering would i be able to negotiate some kind of deal with them to get some monies knocked off or to get him some warrentry or dome freebies thrown in?

Anybody been successful with getting a discount at one of these types of stores? And any tips on how to do so?

You can always do a deal with places like Currys......check out their internet prices first which can be less than the store, but which they will match.

Also show them cheaper prices from other stores/internet and ask them to match or get near.

Always be polite/ a bit cheeky.

Don't be afraid to walk away to think about it.....visit another company, and play one off against the other.

Dont go to Curry's would be my first plan.

As far as I know they wont actually price match their own websites, Pixmania is the cheapest of them but they wont touch it as it is part of DSGi. Avoid John Lewis too as they are absoilute arses about price

Plenty of independents will price match properly.

Just use a price comparison site and order off the internet.

They deffo will match their internet prices, done it many times. My advice is look around the store for the model you fancy then go home and search for the best prices which could be anywhere tbh...........

He wants a Samsung 42" to 50" Under £600

Just found this on Comet's website. Includes free DVD player. http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/621242/SAMSUNG-PS42C450#

Also this tomtom which is cheaper than the same model we saw in Curry's. http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/637149/TOM-TOM-XXL-EU

Richer sounds you can barter. I bought a few TV's with wall brackets and 5 year insurance for them and got about 30% total.

Yeah not saying they wont match some prices, but I got into a huge argument re them matching their own internet prices. The guy I started with didnt even know Pixmania is part of the same company.

never had a problem with john lewis price matching, and the 'free' 5 year extended warranty works out pretty good.

Had no problems getting currys to knock over £400 off a freezer to match their internet deal.

They didn't know about it but the guy just logged on to his pc and had a look for himself. Great service tbh and delivered in 2 days.

Faultless for me.
