Good luck all blondies..... ;yippee; Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: DMorgan on August 18, 2010, 04:38:10 PM Tore my quadricep last night, visit to A&E and I won't be walking for a couple of week so gunna have to skip this.
I bought in directly but stars are currently giving me the 'seats are non-refundable' story. I didn't win a package I just bought in on the site as we were advised to do back when the story was that there would be no way to register at the venue. I'm pretty sure that I just got the standard 'first seat you win you have to play, second seat you get tournament $' email so I've made it clear that I was a direct buyin so hopefully that changes something. I always considered stars to be excellent on the customer support, really hoping that they don't screw this one up for me gl blondes playing it, there seem to be quite a few! Any plans for Friday night?!?! Playing the £100 side event on Friday George. Corn Exchange would also be a decent meet up area for anyone planning to get together to go into town. Geo Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: Geo the Sarge on August 18, 2010, 07:05:53 PM For those looking for a night out the options are:
a. Up market - George Street (Tiger Lily - Lulu's - Candy Bar - Living Room and many others.) b. Down and dirty - Grassmarket (many "get in-get drunk-be a pratt if you like and stagger home" bars) c. Strippers - Bread Street - (Bermuda Triangle, 3 bars within 40 metres of each other wth strip shows every other hour throughout the day but be aware the strippers all do this as a round robin so basically the same shows repeated, if you like seedy.) d. Lapdance clubs - Lothian Road (Bottoms Up and another next door) Shandwick Place right opposite the Rutland (can't remember the name.) and Tolcross (The Licorice club) There are also many temporary venues catering for the Festival - Pleasance - Meadows - Princess Street Gardens all have large temporary drinking areas set up (full of totty looking to tag onto a star.) Cash games for anyone no longer involved at Corn Exchange will be found at the Circus Casino (5 min taxi from CE.) Usually dealt by a group of locals as the Casino rarely has the staff, but rest assured the dealers are of a good standard. I'll be at the CE throughout the weekend, I'll be easily spotted wearing bright Purple/Pink and Orange (in that order) V neck jumpers with matching socks. Please say hello If I have not met you previously. Stay within the areas as stated above and you'll have a ball. As Bazza and Jambo have said, during the festival, Edinburgh is immense. Oh, and welcome. Bedi opened this early pot to 150 and was called in one, two, three, four spots - yes, that's every player yet left to act. Bedi continuation bet a further 250 into the A♥K♣9♦ flop and was called by the button and small blind before firing 1,500 at the 7♦ turn. The button raised to 5,500 and Bedi called. Both players checked down the blank 2♠ river. Bedi showed A♠9♠ to claim the pot beating his opponent's A♦7♣. Bedi bumps up to 21,350. -- Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: AlexMartin on August 19, 2010, 03:45:21 PM For those looking for a night out the options are: a. there are also daily videos hosted by Weathall on the Stars site through the day On the blog, they have good writers like Dino1980, Howard Swains etc. However the focus hasn't been on interactivity..its blog reporting not question and answer style updates. Depends whether they want to change that reporting strategy now that these UKIPTs are "must play" events on the circuit for many, and likely to be followed by many with a thirst for up to date info as a result. 6.28pm: Jimmy White snookers Keith Hawkins Steve Lovett opened to 13,000 from middle position and was three-bet by Keith Hawkins to 31,000 from the hi-jack. It folded to Jimmy White in the big blind who moved all-in. Lovett folded, Hawkins asked for a count and it was 26,900 more to call and he did indeed call. Hawkins: A♣9♠ White: A♦A♥ The board ran out: 8♣4♥7♣8♠7♠ with Hawkins saying, "That's about the worst hand I could have in that spot. -- NW I'm confused though, Jimmy White isn't on the latest chipcounts ?? There's only 20 players listed - but there were 39 remaining at the time. However, it doesn't say 'selected players' - when I see chips counts from 300k down to 41k I assume that's everyone as well. The players on the stars chip count page are notables, big stacks etc. Once it gets to the business end of a tournament we do try to cover everyone left in but some players do slip under the radar. When we do mention a player in a post we do try and get them onto the chip count page. On the last break, two hours ago when there were 54 players left, the tournament staff did a full chip count. However it's not as simple as on a blonde update where you can just copy and paste the chip counts into a post, it's pretty fiddily and is just one of a number of things we have to stay on top of as a team of two. Tournament staff are doing a chip count now whilst players are on break and we'll get all the counts during the dinner break. FWIW in Tallinn, where we had a team of four, we were updating the chip counts every hand at the final table, which might be a blogging first (Homer may correct me and say PN did this first) Some of the other comments, those not to do with Edinburgh, are not for me to answer but I've emailed Stars head of blogging Simon Young (suffolk punch on here). PN do them when they do hand for hand on a final table so probably only WSOP and WSOPE main event, maybe the WPT Championships. It's generally very difficult with only two people blogging but changing the counts I believe is not a necessity except in the biggest final tables (for historical purposes). Otherwise I consider something like that to be a luxury if you can afford to do it, which Stars can lol! Personally I understand the need for hand-for-hand coverage in these events, but in otherwise I'm not a huge fan of it as having read the updates for them, it isn't exactly enjoyable to read. You're so focused on writing the next hand that you cannot embellish your coverage properly and make it entertaining for the reader. Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: The Camel on August 21, 2010, 08:46:12 PM Ridiculous day.
Started with 18k, parlayed that upto 150k. Some very very soft spots. At 1000-2000/300 Geezer opened for 5400. Button flat called, I made it 20k with QQ, raiser passed, flat caller shoved for 125k. I called. He had 64s. He flopped two hearts and a pair and rivered the flush. I hate poker. Here's the hand that saw Joeri Zandvliet win a huge 660,000 pot and take the chip lead with 700,000.Both Zandvliet and James Williams had been active players at the table so the dynamics of this hand are pretty understandable. Zandvliet had opened the action to around 15,000 from late position and Williams had made a small three-bet to just over 30,000. Zandvliet then four-bet to 100,000 and Williams decided to ask the ultimate question (that means he moved all-in, not threatened nuclear war). Williams 330,000 all-in was snapped off by Zandvliet who tabled pocket kings. Williams showed Q♥5♥. A flopped gutshot for Williams never got there as Zandvliet grabbed the chip lead of the tournament. -- RD Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 21, 2010, 10:32:19 PM Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: dino1980 on August 21, 2010, 10:35:47 PM @pokerlass is the tweet addy tyTitle: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: SirPerceval on August 21, 2010, 10:38:22 PM From Ps blog

5.50pm: Bad news for Martin Mary Martin is our first final table casualty after shoving from the cut-off for 120,000 with A♥T♠. Zandvliet called from the button with A♠K♥. The flop killed off Martin's chances of a suckout as the board ran out 6♥K♦6♦Q♠3♠. -- RD Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: trafficjam on August 22, 2010, 07:38:56 PM Well done Mary ;applause;

http://www.pokerstars.tv/poker-video-6529-ukipt-edinburgh-finalist-mary-martin.html I'm blogging the event with Nick (dino1980) and I'm not going to go into this hugely but.. we've been working bloody hard here. Obviously it's different coverage from what some of you are used to with Blonde but it's a different beast entirely as we're not focussing on one group of players particulalry but trying to cover the width and breadth of the tournament. There are certain players, such as the German Schwade brothers, who we made a effort to follow because players/supporters in Germany had contacted the blog. It's impossible to cover every player in a 400 strong field but requests will be certainly be listened to. Anyway, well played to the blondies that made it deep. Look us up for a pint in Dublin ;) Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: TightEnd on August 23, 2010, 10:37:58 AM Courtesy of www.pokerstarsblog.com
Nick Abou Risk has won the UKIPT Edinburgh beating a field of 401 players for £50,000 and a £5,000 seat into the UKIPT Grand Final, aka EPT London. And didn't he play well. Having seized the chip lead at the end of Day 1B, albeit with Owen Robinson still ahead as Day 1A chip leader, he never looked back. Abou Risk started the tournament sat on the right of Jesse May and Liv Boeree, upon whom he wreaked merry hell. Boeree lost two huge pots to him, once four-betting K♣J♣ into his aces and the other time shoving a non-nut flush into, but of course, the nut flush. Abou Risk played a tough questioning brand of poker all the way through to the final table and ultimately to take down the inaugural UKIPT Edinburgh title. "I had a good feeling on that first day where I was talking through a lot of hands with Liv Boeree," said Abou Risk "Realising that she had some respect for my game gave me a lot of confidence and I started stealing a lot more blinds." Abou Risk wasn't the only player in contention though and must have been thankful that short stacks Owen Robinson (9th £3,400) and Jake Cody (11th £2,200) earned early dismissals after play restarted with 11 left at 3pm earlier today. All three of the Day 2 million chip club (Abou Risk, Joeri Zandvliet and Luke Marsh) made it to the final four, and no-one could have said that any of them wouldn't have been a worthy winner. Entering their ranks, and eventually making it to heads up, was Mantas Puidokas. The Lithuanian played a tighter game than most making some big folds, at one point folding queens four-handed to Luke Marsh (who held ace-six so we've been told). The preying mantis almost went all the way and even held the lead three-handed but Abou Risk attacked him relentlessly heads up winning nine hands in a row at one point. Abou Risk finally broke the Lithuanian with J♣6♠ to K♥9♥ flopping two-pair and turning a boat for good measure. Poker commentator Jesse May had been in Nick Abou Risk's firing line on Day 1 and wasn't surprised that he made it this far: "I had a feeling Nick was going to go a long way. He looked really comfortable at the table and managed to make someone fold kings face-up preflop." To be fair, no-one at the table said it was a good pass at the time but Abou Risk's cultured aggression took him all the way to heads up. Abou Risk picked out Luke Marsh as the key threat at the table: "Luke started running over the table and I got it in with A♠6♠ and he made a big call with king jack." It was a huge turning point that shifted the sands of this tournament, bringing Abou Risk and Marsh back close to even. Had Marsh won that pot he would have around two-thirds of the chips in play with four players left. The term 'walk in the park' springs to mind had he won that pot. Marsh played some fantastic poker and we expect to see more of the young player. Fourth place finisher Joeri Zandvliet came so close to scoring an historic double UKIPT win after claiming the UKIPT Manchester win back in February. It's a boast that hasn't been achieved on the PokerStars European Poker Tour which has 57 separate winners. That monkey remains well and truly on the back of both tours. Zandvliet is a player that not only has game but also loves his time at the table. This very first UKIPT Edinburgh final table had been a quality one with plenty of three- and four-betting and just as much banter. Max Silver and Joeri Zandvliet were particularly chatty but Silver's tongue got him into trouble when he called for a chop on the river when he was already ahead and the board duly delivered a split. He went out in sixth. Zandvliet's knockout at the hands of Lithuanian Puidokas has done another Lithuanian a big favour. Marius Lietuvninkas looks like he has kept his place at the top of the UKIPT Leaderboard thanks to Zandvliet's failure to bag a second title (which, of course, would have bagged more points for the Dutchman). The final table payouts are below 1. Nick Abou Risk, Canada, PokerStars qualifier, £50,000 2. Mantas Puidokas, Lithuania, £27,700 3. Luke Marsh, UK, £17,600 4. Joeri Zandvliet, Netherlands, PokerStars qualifier, £13,100 5. Richard Chadwick, UK, £10,300 6. Max Silver, UK, £8,200 7. Suzanne Pyefinch, UK, PokerStars qualifier, £6,300 8. Mary Martin, UK, £4,800 9. Owen Robinson, Ireland, £3,400 10. Steve Lovett, UK, £2,600 11. Jake Cody, UK, £2,200 Title: Re: PokerStars UKIPT Edinburgh thread Post by: xxMAIRxx on August 24, 2010, 12:11:16 AM Thanks all.
