Its because it Pakistan mate, many just don't want to help them. Its sad really when 99.9% of the affected are just normal people with feck all trying to grind out life.

Even the Burmese with their government got more help than this. It's crazy. The world's media has done an awesome character assassination of the country imo.

Terrible situation over there.

Was watching it on telly today in a pub in London as I was wasting time before my train.  It horrific how people across the world live in complete luxury (and I'm talking about 99% of the people in the UK), whilst others struggle to survive.

It did annoy me though that they had some religious 'cleric' on (don't know what his official title was), who said that God would look after those who needed his help.  What an arrogant and ugly attitude when thousands of innocent people are dying in his country whilst he enjoys luxuries they could only dream of.  He's obviously one of God's chosen.

Also, at the same time there was a ticker on the bottom of the screen showing that one of the Pakistan cricketers had scored 92 runs at the Oval...

Apparently other Islamic countries have been really slow at helping too. Saudi Arabia finally coughed today after some considerable pressure about lack of help..........

I think that's a red-herring.  Most countries are pretty slow at giving aid to any country.  It's one thing the UK is very much at the forefront of.  It's one thing we should be proud of.

I only say that because they normally stick together and help each other out, you would expect the wealthy ones to cough up a bit........

Ill be honest, i havent watched 1 second of coverage of it, and aint going too.

I have other issues more pressing in my life right now, ie booking up for my trip's to Barca in October, and Poland in November, also going to the Peak District in 2 weeks.

These are my plans for my money.

If other want to help Pakistan Big up to you, i dont see why we all need too. its a choice and if other people/countries choose not too thats up to them.

There are a number of reasons why people in the UK have been slow to donate to this disaster. 1) When people rushed to support Pakistan in the aftermath of the Kashmir earthquake in 2005 much of the money went astray. The government has corruption issues so people are rightly sceptical their aid will actually find its way to those in need. 2) Pakistan is noted for harbouring terrorist activity 3) Pakistan can afford nuclear weapons 4) Rhetoric coming out of Pakistan from some quarters is that help from the West isn't wanted or appreciated 5) President Zardari continued his jolly with David Cameron whilst the disaster unfolded 6) We recently saw effigies of our Prime Minister being burned in Pakistan 7) Oil rich muslim countries who earn like $1billion per day have been slow to assist their close neighbour.

None of the above applies to Haiti. And even though all of the above applies to Pakistan, and the UK is busto, we have still been one of the most vigorous supporters of this disaster. I imagine our motivation is political rather than humanitarian though because if we don't help out the void will be filled by religious extremist groups who will aid and influence at the same time. Personally I can see why regular people in the UK would be slower to help Pakistan than somewhere like Haiti.

Your post reminded me of this joke:

A farmer is in Iowa during a flood. The river is overflowing, with water surrounding the farmer's home up to his front porch. As he is standing there, a boat comes up, The man in the boat says "Jump in, I'll take you to safety."

The farmer crosses his arms and says stubbornly, "Nope, I put my trust in God."

The boat goes away. The water rises to the second floor. Another boat comes up, the man says to the farmer who is now in the second story window, "Jump in, I'll save you."

The farmer again says, "Nope, I put my trust in God."

The boat goes away. Now the water is up to the roof. As The farmer stands on the roof, a helicopter comes over, and drops a ladder. The pilot yells down to the farmer "I'll save you, climb the ladder."

The farmer says "Nope, I put my trust in God."

The helicopter goes away. The water continues to rise and sweeps the farmer off the roof. He drowns.

The farmer goes to heaven. God sees him and says "What are you doing here?"

The farmer says "I put my trust in you and you let me down."

God says, "What do you mean, let you down? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!!!"
