30k in chips, 2 hour clock. etc etc Read on the table is tough, Phil Galfond is there, so is Twin Caracas and Ed Moncada. Certainly wishing you have drawm a different table. On this hand UTG limps for 100, UTG+1 also limps. You get dealt KK UTG+3 and raise to 450. All pass to UTG who now makes it 6000. You have no reads on him. WTF do I do? Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me. Post by: pleno1 on August 20, 2010, 10:46:36 AM meh fold i guess.

Post by: the rage on August 20, 2010, 11:38:49 AM Good one. Could the raise to 6K have been accidenltal (5K instead of 500) ? seems a very excessive raise amount to me. I know you said no reads, but, i would attempt to have a lengthy chat with him, see if he starts to glow. I guess you have to go with your gut feeling here. Fold if you think your behind. Get them in if you think you're ahead. He might be daft enough to go all the way with an inferior hand having already raised to 6K.
Not that i know anything about these scenarios. Either way, i hope you enjoyed the adrenalin rush at the time. :) GL in Edinburgh too. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me. Post by: 810ofclubs on August 20, 2010, 04:20:22 PM fold

Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me. Post by: The Camel on August 23, 2010, 08:26:43 PM Heh, it was me making it 6k to play after limping UTG.
I devised the plan in the shower the morning I played. I decided to lookvery nervous (fumbling with my chips etc) and say not a word to anyone and not play a hand unless I was dealt a big pocket pair (which I would play as per usual) or AA which I would play in the weird way I described in the OP. I figured a weak player would probably fold a big hand here, but a strong player might well fall for it and ship with KK or maybe even QQ. Interesting to see Flushy and Trigger were the only players who gave the answer ship. The raiser in question very nearly shipped. He tanked for over 5 minutes and alot of the time looked like shipping but eventually open folded KK. Sigh. Maybe I cost myself 5k in action on all streets, but I think it was way less than 6-1 he shipped. I wouldn't have tried this in any event apart from the WSOP main event. Good thread though! Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me. Post by: The Camel on August 23, 2010, 08:48:03 PM mbn to know your gonna get AA utg on day one I gave myself 45 minutes, maybe an hour to try out the plan. The time wouldn't be wasted, watching opponents, trying to figure tendencies etc. It wasn't just UTG I was going to do it, I was going to limp/rr from anywhere or just open rr big. I think 4150 would be optimal. The 50 is vital cus it makes you look like a tool. Also for maximum idiot effect use as many small denomination chips as possible taking forever to count them out and then splashing them on to the table giving the dealer lot's of unnecessary work to do. In the only tournament where anyone half decent would fold KK preflop (ok, not quite true) you got dealt AA, had already pre-decided to play it the way an uber-awful player would play it, acted like a uber-awful player at the same time to make it look more like AA, and got your opponent to open fold KK, taking the minimum possible. I really respect your game keith, but not sure I understand the reasoning behind this one. Surely to anyone without any pre-knowledge of your game it is a relatively simple sigh-fold everytime? Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me. I really respect your game keith, but not sure I understand the reasoning behind this one. Surely to anyone without any pre-knowledge of your game it is a relatively simple sigh-fold everytime? I think a fair percentage of terribad players play a huge range of hands badly in the wsop. I've seen players stack in level 1 with TT pre, go totally crazy with AK, putting six or seven bets in. I've seen plenty go broke with aces after the flop when there is peanuts in the pot. Really I've seen totally ridiculous things like you would never believe. In this specific case, if I make it, say, 1300 to play, I probably get one caller, maybe two (as it turns out definitely 2, the other limper had TT). So, I'm playing AA OOP against two unknowns (well, unknown except the first limper is a member of Team Pokerstars online and can presumably play to a high level). This does not seem a particularly nice spot. If everything goes perfectly I might make 6k in this pot. So, instead, I decide to make a wacky play, which could, just maybe, get someone to stack off. I figure at least 25% of players would stack off with KK there. And some would with QQ too. I told this hand over dinner in Edinburgh, and again 2 from 7 would have stacked off. I don't know if it's a good play, but I certainly don't think it's terrible. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me. People preflop stacking off ranges are obv tighter so that should make you less inclined to play the AA super fast because people are considering folding KK pre to 4bets. I'd be pretty soulcrushed to get dealt AA vs KK vs TT in the main and win like....6bbs Title: Re: WSOP Main Event Hand That Still Bothers Me.
