Title: Re: puke river spot Post by: cambridgealex on August 29, 2010, 05:40:30 PM this is a gross spot yeh, I think he shows up with air here a lot though. Your line probably looks like JJ to him, so he thinks maybe only a large bet will get you to fold that, and he has 89 or a small pair/airball float. The other option, he is putting you on exactly JQ and so thinks you'll pay off his TT or 77.
I think the first is more likely though, as your line has to appear stronger than it does for him to put such a large bet in with a boat and be confident that you'll pay him off. interesting post though. Title: Re: puke river spot Post by: Sack it off on August 29, 2010, 05:46:21 PM A fold for me
Title: Re: puke river spot Post by: DMorgan on August 29, 2010, 08:55:58 PM Yeah this is gross but it really looks like AJ to me. I would have bet the river though, $24
Title: Re: puke river spot Post by: outragous76 on September 01, 2010, 07:04:52 PM Yeah I decided to fold this spot, felt like 77 to me.
Wanted to be a little sick, but I think you are shown a better hand most times here, and there weren't too many missed draws to make the call worthwhile Title: Re: puke river spot Post by: psustudent on September 04, 2010, 10:22:26 AM *see edit below
I'd call here and be willing to go broke. Think about it this way, when you cbet flop and check turn, that is exactly what your flop bet looks like - a cbet. so he decided to bet big on turn and take it away from you. Once you c/c, the river queen is a card he tried to represent. Basically he's not putting you on a Q. So you gotta call here. Yeah his line does look like he has 77 or KQ but if he does then good for him but you're hand doesnt look strong enough for you to fold. Say you bet flop bet turn and check river, then yeah its gross cus you repped a lot of strength and he still shoved. All in all you should be willing to call and go broke here some of the time. *edit: didnt even notice the ten in op. yea given that, his flop call/river shove range that beats you would be 77/10s/q10/AJ/QK. his flop call/river shove range you beat is ak (would prolly 3bet pre or raise flop.) k10. sometimes QJ/Q9/k7/107/complete air, leaning towards K10 a lot. pretty gross spot given those ranges. think about it this way, pot is 50 and if he bet 40 on river, youd prolly cr shove river putting him in a gross spot. so he wants to avoid being put in that spot of getting checkshoved so he overshoves putting you in that spot making you to consider a fold. But also, if he has boat, your line looks like you have AA/AK a lot. He could be overshoving hoping to be called. I think way he played it and given ranges above, you prolly have to fold once but make a note if you can and if you run into him again and see him making a lot of these type of plays, you have your answer.
