I'm totally split on what to get. I just need something to while away sometime. As it stands I don't have a fast enough internet connection, but hopefully a return to UK is imminent and that will change. I'll probably only play COD and FIFA, thats about my limit!!!!

Will I play Blu-Ray??? Probably not unless it turns out the dodgy downloads are worth doing. I do have an old media station with 500 GB of movies (ex has it) and could stick some of them on there. Probs wouldn't put music on it either!!!! So do I really need a massive 250/320 GB version??? Would a 120 GB PS3 be better (I hear the XBoxs are noisier on the lower spec)

I been used to PS, but sure I might be able to get used to XBox....and then again they're better priced!!

So whats the general consensus??? As a bit of a novice I'd be after some advice please :-)

I've got both and I'd definitely go for the PS3. The 360 is much louder (I've got one of the early models though so the new ones might be much quieter). I also prefer the controllers on the PS3... Everything's just a bit slicker on the PS3.

Had both and prefer the PS3 but i've had PS1 and PS2 so might have been used to it.
PS3's seem more reliable although mine has now broke (stopped reading discs if anyone can help or know where it can be fixed for a decent price) but it broke after 3 years. 360 only lasted a year.

Do you want to play online? If so I'd get what your friends have.

The 360 is meant to have the slicker online experience, but you have to pay for it.

Sorry to derail thread but has anyone else had this similar problem ?

I was at me Dad's on Saturday and I put a copied film into his PS3 and the film worked fine,I then get a call from him the next day asking what did I do to his PS3,eh wtf ?? nothing.His PS3 now doesn't acknowledge any disc that's in the drive whether it be an original game or DVD or the copied film either ? Anyone had similar problems ? He's had it for about 2 year but it gets used less than once a week,cheers.

That's what is wrong with my PS3 but i think it happened after we tried to play a blu-ray film. Won't recognise any discs. I've seen a quote online to get it fixed for £70.

Mine's only 40gb and it's plenty for me, just delete the old stuff you don't need any more and 120 will be plenty

The Xbox has the ring of death... what kind of product has this kind of alert to tell you it's broken and needs replacing.

PS3's aren't expected to break.

I prefer my PC tbh, the games are virtually half the cost of console ones, but I dont mind the odd Xbox session esp. new halo that is not out on the ps3.

Got a 320 GB + Move (what ever that is) from Sainsbury’s for £240 now just got to wait till Friday for F1, then for Medal Of Honor 

I have PES 2010 if anyone wants to buy it for whatever they go for on ebay or amazon. I never play it.

Move is the Sony version of the Wii motion controllers. Quite nifty really - came out last week, so I've been playing a bit a few days running, and now have a sore arm from the sword fights :).

play cod mw2 mostly on ps3, much better value than an xbox which breaks with lights running in circles... i mean wtf ?

most mates also play ps3 so that swayed me alot ... also a bray player, so that helps too.

The latest system update enables the PS3 to play Blu-Ray 3D disks.

Right, MrsB also wants either a PS3 or an Xbox. We're not going to be playing bluray DVDs (We say we might but we won't).

Just need to know which has the best games. Also, don't like paying a monthly subscription for Xbox live as we'll hardly ever use it but that Kinect non-sense looks pretty cool.

What should we get.

PS3 is great, I use mine all the time and hardly ever play games on it!

It looks like they're doing something similar with the PS3 and charging for multiplayer, then again if you're not going to play online it doesn't matter either way.

PS3 has move which is similar to Kinect.

About the only difference I've noticed is Xbox has trials, which is a game I love, and PS3 doesn't. Personally I'd just pick up whichever is the cheapest.

I thought the PS3 (Sony) said they would never charge, but games who plan to use independant servers would? will be shit if this comes in. 

Reading it seems like every game will require PSN Pass but you get one free with the game, so the charge only really applies to those who buy second hand games.

Also forgot to mention MS have announced a load of TV content for Live today (most of which doesn't even require a paid membership) so it might be worth taking a look and seeing if you fancy any of that.

Bopkin said I should get a ps3, so that's what we're getting. In Bopkin I trust :)
