Title: Looking to give something back...
Post by: mondatoo on September 10, 2010, 03:38:51 PM
So,I was thinking about the fact that Alex was kind enough to give me coaching a while back without wanting anything in return with his reasoning being to give something back to Blonde as he felt he'd received a lot from Blonde and I would like to do the same.If it wasn't for Blonde it would be highly unlikely that my circumstances would be as they're and for that I'm extremely grateful.

The Stake

I am offering to coach one person to play low-mid stakes 45mans preferably playing $6-$12.You would be required to provide the bankroll and would need a minimum of 100 bi's so if needs be I'd be happy to start with the $3's and build up to the 6's and 12's.The deal would be a 70/30 split of profits in your favour with profit chopped at the end of every month.I'm not looking to make anything off of this and the 30% would go into a pool and at the end of the period this would be a Blonde staking pool to offer people stakes into future live and online comps.

Any fpps accrued during this time I am happy for the stakee to keep.

What you will get from me?

I will be giving strategy advice and reviewing hand history's with you.I have made over $13k this year grinding these with only half of that time being on a full time basis. You will receive a minimum of 2 hours a week coaching from me.

What I want from you?

A willingness to learn and improve your game, I am looking for people who are eager to improve and in turn make lots of money.

Ability to put in volume, these games are all about volume.I don't expect people to dive straight in and play 20 tables but gradually building up the amount of tables you can manage is a necessity to grinding a decent profit at these games.

A solid past record, obviously I am after a winning poker player. I will look at all proposals, so if you are break even or a slight loser I will still consider you.

You will need to purchase Holdem Manager,Tableninja and SNGwiz.

I also expect you to do this for a duration of 6 months,so it may well be that you feel after a month that your now good enough to go on your own and your making a decent amount,I will still be offering advice and to look through HH's for the duration of the 6 months and I will expect you to ship 30% of profits for the duration of the 6 months.SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE HAPPY TO COMMIT TO THIS FOR A 6 MONTH PERIOD

Proposal

If you are interested please pm a proposal outlining why you feel you would be a good candidate for this.

In the proposal if you could include links to sharkscope, opr or hem/pt databases.

If you are not known to me (ie someone with less that 500 posts on blonde) a reference or 2 from someone in the poker community who is known would be good.

A rough estimate of how much volume you can expect to put in on a monthly basis, how many tables you play, have you used sngwiz or tracking software before.

OK any questions just fire away on here, I will keep this open for about a week and will reply to everyone who pm's me a proposal.

Also Blonde are in no way involved in this and any disputes that I'm sure won't arise would not involve them.

I thought it showed a lot of commitment that ray went to the effort of finding a grown up to type up the proposal

Longy was offering the staking as well whereas I'm not so it will make a difference.I think it's a good offer though as when I got coaching I put my own money up for a 50/50 split.

I was waiting for someone to say that.I'm not getting anything out of it but if someone puts the effort in and has the desire to learn then I'd be pretty confident they'd become a very good reg at these games therefore I don't think giving up 30% for a future staking pool to hopefully give other Blondes the chance to improve is a lot to ask.If I put a thread up saying I'll put the money up and you can take all the profits I'm sure I'd have had 50 responses by now but this way by asking someone to give a little to get a lot is a better way for me to get the right person.

Surely if your looking for a winning player, then they dont need coaching and wouldnt want to give away 30% of winnings?

You've stolen my ability to win in these games and I want it back.

I guess my brain just works differently to others. My point of view was I was trying to be helpful by offering to give up some of my time without looking for anything in return to offer someone the chance to make a decent amount playing and thought it would be good to give a side interest for Blonde with the possibility of future staking.I guess it doesn't matter to the person whether the money went to me or Blonde so I can see people's point but my intentions where genuine to try and do something good for the forum but I guess people don't see it like that so fair enough. If you wanted coaching from elsewhere you'd have to give up more of a % only the coach would be making money.I've been asked by multiple sources if I'd do coaching and I said no as I wasn't interested,I just thought this was a good idea.

The offer is there and imo it's a good offer for someone so I won't be changing the terms.

It's a nice sentiment, and your offer is certainly reasonable compared to what is available elsewhere in the coaching market, perhaps just not the demand on Blonde.

There's probably less complicated ways of giving something back to the Blonde community!

It is a decent offer from yourself, ignore those that say do it for free, maybe they don't realise what you are giving away here.
If I had the time to put the volume in I would be interested myself.

I only put ask longy as he can probably give you some pointers on who he may feel will be the better prospects.

Thanks and much appreciated.Since I'm personally getting nothing from it and I'm giving away time plus strategy tips to play in the games I make my living from then I thought it was a decent offer.Maybe the conflicting idea of looking to give something back/want something for it maybe narks people even if that is also for Blonde.I think James nailed it on the head with the fact there just isn't that many people on Blonde who want to put in a decent amount of time/volume that don't already do so themselves.

There's also a good few who would be more than happy to put in the time and volume for what you're offering, but don't have the funds to get started.

It's a catch 22.  The ones who have it are already doing it.  The ones who don't have would love to but can't.

Seeing as it's now public knowledge that Booder is the lucky candidate for this under my staking agreement with him I just thought I'd post to let people know the agreement Ray and myself came to regarding any potential profits.

Firstly Ray had said that he wanted any profits to go in to a future staking pool. I personally didn't want to do this as it would only benefit a few. It also tilts me when tight gits get free money to play terrible poker at no risk to themselves.

So the agreement we came to was that any profit split would be going to fund some kind of live update. Not sure what comp or comps yet but it will definitely be for updates only.

Ray had said that he wanted a 6 month commitment. We changed this to 10k games instead. This will be approximately 6 months anyway at the rate Boo is playing..

The profit split will be at the end of 10k hands not every month.

Ray had said 70/30. We have also changed this. It is now 30% for the first $1k and 20% for any amount thereafter.

For Ray's part he is putting in an average of 2 hours per week tuiton which if we go 6 months will be 52 hours of his time for no personal gain. Given his potential win rate at these games if he was grinding instead of doing this he is giving up a considerable amount of money to hopefully benefit blonde.

So to find out if Boo with Ray's valuable help can grind out enough to fund an update or 2 follow Boo's progress on his diary http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=51253.0

If anybody has any questions or moans regarding this please feel free to vent them here. I won't be answering them anyway.

EDIT: It's 30% for the first $1k not of the first $1k.
