Title: Next Man Utd Manager?
Post by: jjandellis on September 22, 2010, 11:36:19 PM
This story got me thinking:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/9025128.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/9025128.stm)

Do you think Fergie will give his seal approval to a high profile outsider? A returning prodigal son? Or promote from within a la 'the anfield boot room'???

Looking at these odds, are there any bets you really like here:
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/man-utd-specials/next-permanent-manager (http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/man-utd-specials/next-permanent-manager)

Personally I am quite liking Mike Phelan at 69/1...any thoughts???

I think Jose is waiting for this but could see Queiroz making his way back to the club soon and then taking over.

Gotta be Sven.

I should perhaps elaborate.

In 2005 it looked like the scum manager was on his way to retirement so i placed a bulky wager on a rising star on the management scene Mr Sven Goran Eriksson at a rather juicy price of 18/1.

Specials / Next Man Utd Manager      S. G Eriksson     Back      1826072437      05-Dec-05
16:55         18    1.34       19.11    05-Dec-05 16:55

5 years later whenever i press current bets on Betfair it appears and theres nothing i can do to get rid of it and his odds have risen to around 1000s. It tilts me so hard everytime, i even rang betfair to get them to cancel the bet but they said they couldnt as i had entered a contract with the layer. arghhhh, just retire you Scottish Dick so my bet can be settled as a loser.

It makes sense too. He misses England. He wants a big historical club. In 2 years Real will hate him. In 2 years Fergie will be done. It is a no brainer to me. Sports recruitment people were convinced he was next the day he left Chelsea and the word was he was on Ut's radar.

Bruce? Hughes?

Neither good enough, imo

Mourinho must be favourite.

I did think Moyes, very much in Sir Alex's style but Everton would need to be top six this and next year for that to happen

I did think MON, but probably not now

Would love to see Mourinho back in English Football

I have thought for a while Mourinho  would want this job. Th only stumbling block could be if Utd some how find a way to win the premiership this year. I could see Ferguson calling it a day with the record in the bag. This could also be true if he picked up his third champions league.  If he went on much longer after winning the 19th the goal would become to match 5 European Cups which seems a bit unrealistic.

Probably not going to happen anyway as Chelsea look hot favourites this year and Man Utd don't look good enough to win the Champions League.

OK, slight change of direction...one I think alot harder to call is this:
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/arsenal-specials/next-permanent-manager (http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/arsenal-specials/next-permanent-manager)

Not so many obvious candidates that fit in with the Arsene/Arsenal philosophy...if any, I guess my pick would be Guus Hiddink. Likes his sides to play it on the ground, with lots of pace n energy...can work well with youngsters as well as established stars...

Sam Allardyce, he would win everyhing with a big club, arsenal probably know this.

Struggling to understand why you all think Jose will be desperate to leave a club just as big if not bigger with players like Ronaldo, Ozil, Khedira, Kaka, Sergio Ramos, Casillas, Sergio Canales, Di Maria... i could go on,

for a side which is rapidly decaying with only Rooney as a star player nowadays and a club whose owners are under constant scrutiny, especially from their own fans, regarding tremendous debts.

I know he apparently loves English football, but surely no one would willingly leave Real to join Scum for the forseeable few years.

I guess it depends when Ferguson retires, he might be bored of Real in 4 or 5 years and fancy a change/new challenge, but i defo cant see it in the next 1, 2 or 3 as some people are suggesting.

I'd be interested in a wager taking the 15th May 2013 and over.

Yeah he has a soft spot for Liverpool no doubt.

And restoring Liverpool would be a much bigger accomplishment for his ego than simply picking up where Fergie left off.

The Spanish press were convinced last summer that a consortium taking over Liverpool was the only thing that could have stopped Mourinho taking over at Madrid as they wanted him.

(Unfortunately a large section of the Spanish press are Liverpool fans)
