Title: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: jjandellis on October 02, 2010, 08:08:59 PM OK so its a Saturday evening and I'm packing my kit to go on exercise. I spent the best part of the morning just staring at my kit and then slowly got things together throughout the afternoon. Real pain in the @rse, as for the last 12 months or so everything has been configured for desert conditions, whereas I'm now looking at a couple of weeks in the pissy wind and rain of Germany...
My evening is being spent taping things together, ensuring things fit snuggly, everything is silent when shaken and everything is serviceable. The worst part has been cleaning my camelbak (fiddly). Its not been cleaned for 2 years through lack of a cleaning kit, so I'm kinda horrified to see some of what I could have been ingesting with my 'clean' water :-( There is equipment and clothing strewn across my room, it looks like a bomb site. I have to get all this cr*p into a bergan. A bergan I'll most likely to be humping about for the majority of the time... But still a feeling of procrastination persists, resulting in me playing poker and posting on here. The exercise will involve a range firing week culminating in the Combat Marksmanship Test; build up to Close Quarters Battle and OBUA (used to be FIBUA - Fighting in Built Up Area's i.e. room clearing etc). There will then be a bog standard week out in the field with all the normal patrols, OP's etc Now if I offered this to some young Call of Duty dude I'm sure they'd have my hand off, but I still cannot be bothered with it. The main reason... MOSQUITO's. I hate Mozzi's and they love me. More specifically they like biting me a drinking my blood. But for some reason this year there seems to be alot of the little buggers - and where we are going is Mosquito Central :-( I know I'm lucky to have a job, as there are quite a few out there that don't have one. This has got to be one of the sh*ttiest parts of my job. That and the fact I live miles from my kids. But that got me to thinking, I know others certainly have to do a lot worse things, and being a bit of a community Blonde must be quite a diverse lot - therefore it would be interesting to know what everyone does for a living - and the sh*ttiest thing they have to do or the worst impacts of the job on their lives... I have to walk at least 20 yards to the kitchen and I have to make my own tea sometimes!!! Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: Longy on October 02, 2010, 08:20:49 PM Missing the afternoon edition of Neighbours.

Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: Geo the Sarge on October 02, 2010, 08:55:24 PM FFS Lee,
think of the proper soldiers (infantry) who have to do this on a weekly basis - lol you whinge about your once a year battlecamp/range week. Stop being a pussy. ;nanana; ;nana; To answer your question, for me it's going in most days, civvies are atrocious at management, think no-one but them are important and have so many rules/regulations it's not even slightly funny. They call them "controls" where I work which is probably the correct term as we are micro-managed to fuck. Think yourself lucky, shut down the PC and get yer gear packed. Be safe bud. Geo Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: EvilPie on October 03, 2010, 01:14:21 PM The worst part of my job without doubt is having to make people redundant.
Doesn't matter how many times you do it it never gets any easier. Making a family man redundant just before Christmas sucks really hard and makes me feel shit for weeks. Doesn't matter how many times you do it it never gets any easier. Making a family man redundant just before Christmas sucks really hard and makes me feel shit for weeks. I can relate to that..owning your own firm is a thankless task at the best of times..but when people are relying on you for their livelihood and you have to let them go ..its the worst.. First person i ever had to lay off was a real old boy.. I felt dreadful.. last person was a woman who started crying... sigh thats a big bite of a shit sandwich right there Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: StuartHopkin on October 05, 2010, 12:02:38 PM Delegate your redundancies!
31st January and 31st August are by far the crappiest parts of my job. Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: Graham C on October 05, 2010, 08:26:49 PM My job is toasty, no complaints really. Could live without paying the bills I guess.

Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: thetank on October 05, 2010, 11:57:42 PM speaking to people Maybe we should do a one day a week swap. Ever considered doing some volunteer work Longy? I was looking myself the other day, with a view to maybe doing some classroom assistant stuff, and something that caught my eye was going round and spending an hour a month with someone with mental illness issues. I thought, fml, why the hell didn't I do some shit like this when I was a pro internet player. I've spent 225 days logged into blonde according to the top of the screen. Probs could've gotten by with just 220 tbh. I think of myself when I was a pro. Most months it should have been charitys sending volunteers round to chat to me for an hour. Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: Woodsey on October 06, 2010, 01:11:32 AM I don't have enough to do most of the time, I can probably actually do my job in 3 days a week. I actually get bored hence dicking around on sites like here etc too much...........
I rarely have to be anywhere before 10.30am and am home by 3.30pm most days. I would honestly rather be busier............ :-X Title: Re: Crappiest Part of your Job Post by: Nakor on October 06, 2010, 11:47:35 AM I don't have enough to do most of the time, I can probably actually do my job in 3 days a week. Pooling employees to "choose" who that lucky soul is, is never nice, always seems to be too close to Xmas. The last year has seen some growth though, so I might actually get to employ somebody new soon - then I might actually have some time to play some bloody poker or even have a life. I never believed I would have a job where the work life balance was so tipped towards "Work" - how and when did this happen? |
