This happened 2 me on the deepstack. tournament started 4 about 20 minutes and i had 1player that should not be on my table. i lost about 3500 chips 2 him and 2 make matter
worse he is not playing in the deepstack! he meants 2 be seated in the £50 comp which starting at 3.30pm. how the hell he got 2 seat at seat 7 on my table and played 4 20 minutes
i dont know. unbelieveable that u got 1 guy that r really really stupid or r really really dumb arese. it really f**k my tourney of the whole day. 2 that guy that done that siily mistake

Something similar happened to me.  I arrived for the £300 a little late, and found my name on the screens showing the seat draw. Went to the table, and someone was already sitting in my seat and they'd played a few hands already (I was about 3 minutes late).  So went to the TD who checked and say it was another Phillips (Rod?) who'd sat in my seat by mistake.  Now that he'd played some hands it was too late to do anything about it, so instead the common-sense solution was to put me in the seat he should have been sat in.  Looked like a much tougher table than the one I was meant to be sat at - but too late to do anything about that now, and it was my own fault I was late.

It did make me think though, that someone could see their table draw and decide the table is a tough one, and go and find themselves an 'easier' table instead with a seat that's not yet occupied.  If they time it for just as the comp starts they'll have played a hand and it'll be too late to do anything about it by the time someone notices.

I guess a simple solution is for the dealers to have a printed list of the players for their starting table and check before the tournament kicks off, or as each player arrives after the start.

Same happened to me at the APAT worlds last year.  guy turned up late to find another guy sat in his seat at our table.  As we'd already played a few hands he was sent to the seat the guy at our table should have been in.  Wouldn't have minded too much except the bloke that was sat at our table that shouldn't have been there was Chris Brammer :(

Happened to me at APAT HORSE at DtD in August. Mr "Tall Anon" was sat in my seat and had bluffed away a good % of the starting stack. Luckily I got to sit in his "real" seat which had lost one big blind :)

The dealers have a printed sheet showing seating positions and names of those players registered at the start of the tournament.

In our case (I was on Frankie’s table), this amounted to 6 players.  The villain in question sat down in seat 7 after the start so there is no way the dealer would know this was wrong.

They do ID checks in Vegas. Think this should be mandatory if you make day 2 or furher of any liv tourney to avoid this sort of thing happening

The dealer simply looks at his sheet and asks the player in seat 7 what his name is.

There was no name against seat 7. Only 6 seats allocated and printed out at start time.

Unless his name is empty seat it's probably gonna be a mis match

So he's given a seating card by the TD (who tells him where to sit, as does the card) and he goes and sits there.  Without a card, the dealer calls over the TD to clarify if they should be sitting there or not.

Can  I just clear this one up please. The dealers were given a seat draw to check against, the mistake was in another department and the player had been entered into the £300 rather than the £50 accidentally.  It was neither the TD's, the dealers or the players fault ...... luckily someone mentioned at the table about it being the £300 and the gentleman came to the TD and honorably admitted he was playing the wrong comp. *

Frankie, his name was down to play the £300, therefore he saw his name on a seatdraw screen and sat down at the seat that the computer had told him too. The guy was a first time visitor to the club and didn't even realize that there was two comps on in the afternoon.

He could have easily just sat there and said nothing and we would have known no different apart from the cashdesk would be £250 odd short.

he entered the £50 comp not the £300 as i already mentioned.

He paid to enter the £50 comp but was accidentally registered for the wrong competition, he saw his name on a computer screen and sat down at the seat that was given to him by the computer.

After realizing that other players had paid £300 to enter the same comp that he was playing, he came to the tournament desk and told us he thought there may have been a mistake. After a little investigation he was then unregistered from the £300 and re-registered for the £50, which was the comp that he had paid for and believed that he had sat down to play. After finding it too easy to gain a few of your chips, he probably questioned himself and thought he maybe in a beginners comp?  ;scarymoment;

what happened to his stack when he moved tournies?

This was a new one us lol, how often can this happen?

Between three of us it, we all agreed that we would have to treat him as a disqualified player. His chipstack was removed and any action that had already taken place must stand as he had played a few hands by this point.

BTW The £50 comp was just starting and players were just getting seated for this, this may have been the reason he realized he was in the wrong comp.

The seat draw on the screen gets updated as a new player enters even if the competition has started, for as long as it is displayed. He also had a slip form cashdesk telling him where his seat was, I even showed him to his seat as he didn't know how our seating plan worked.

They print off the seat draw, but the guy maybe bought in real late so his name was automatically added to the big screen when he registered, but they had already printed off the seat draw.
You should have called the clock on him frankie! That would get me to fold ;)

Thanks for clearing it up Rich.  Obviously not the player's fault at all, and a simple mistake that can happen.  Sounds like it was all dealt with as well as it could be, although Frankie should have been mocked over the PA-system as well.

Can I just ask, do the dealers still have a printed seating plan for their table at the start of the comp?  From what you've said, anyone joining after the start gets a ticket with their table and seat number on it as well that they can show to the dealer?  With these two elements in place that should sort out most seating mishaps - but still begs the question of how someone ended up in my seat in a previous £300?  It's not a huge issue at all, and probably trivial compared to other issues that could crop up (but don't as you've got them sorted).

I remember the incident with yourself Kin as Sharplea told me you was on 35 seat 4 instead of 13 seat 3, It was a mix up between Rod Phillips and yourself. It could be as simple as the dealer saying "Is it Mr Phillips sir?" and then thinking nothing of it.

Regards the seating plan, yes every comp should have them. However it seems to be the trend now to come in late, take the £100 comp on Sunday, i did the seat draw with 5 minutes to go and there was 28 runners, at the start of the competition there was 36 and after the end of the first level there was over 70 players, sometimes I do a draw with only 4 people at the table knowing that 10 minutes in they will be 6 or 7 handed and full after 20 minutes. Sometimes I can panic and I will break a table before the start if there isn't a queue at cashdesk therefore makes the seat draw nonsense, or I may open another table if I get an extra dealer.

I've seen this happen a couple of times myself and as Dan rightly says someone could use it to their advantage if they didn't like the look of the table they'd been drawn.

Perhaps start having names on membership cards and checking them before the start of the comp?

Frankie has done his £300 to a guy who shouldn't have been there and it's not his fault.

What if Frankie knocked the other guy out? Frankie has a commanding chip lead over the rest of the table putting them at a disadvantage which should never have happened.

I appreciate all the jokes and rubz but to be honest I'd also like to hear what was being done to make sure it doesn't happen again.

In my business we makes mistakes the same as everyone else. Usually we put something in place to reduce the chance of it happening again.

Well actually I have seen people who have sat in the wrong seat in tourneys(wrong seat not wrong tourney) and having played a hand or two they have been allowed to stay there and when the person who should have been playing in that seat arrives they then get put in the miscreant's seat.

I've always thought that there was a bit of an opening for an angle-shooter who didn't like their table draw but I have no idea how to go about making sure it doesn't happen.

The problem with this mistake is there is basically f all there can be done about it really. Doubt I'd be impressed at the time but I wouldn't kick off or anything and would quickly just forget about it. No point kicking off or anything, it won't achieve much.............

OK after the meeting yesterday, the management will be asking Derek (the computer bod) to make an additional failsafe in cash desk so this doesn't happen again, whereby the cashier has to enter the amount manually. At the moment it is a cardslide and click method, but hopefully with the addition of adding the amount we can reduce/eliminate this error.

after meeting by dik9 with management, they decided 2 refund my £336 ( mbn if i got it )
