I'm playing on the Friday, so don't fancy the last longer ;)

I'm already doing 50 quid + juice, I see no reason to add a last longer onto the amount I lose for the weekend rotflmfao

Target is 2 pints per level for the duration of the comp. I can't see it lasting past level 6 but we're gonna give it a good go.

Day 1a for me but no drinking as not staying up north, if i bust early will head towards Luton and play there on way back down south.
If i bust there early will drive to Southend and try to make their comp, so basically trying to bust early in 3 comps in different counties in 1 night

If anyone is in a hotel in central Nottingham on Friday for 1A and is too tight for a taxi wants a lift, I shall be driving through at about 3:30 on my way from work to DTD. Or indeed from the station, which I also pretty much drive past. PM me.

I don't even know where the M11 is but I can't see how it can be any better than the big road that provides a direct link between the two cities?

If I was going to London from Notts I'd be taking the A52 to the M1 then heading South to the end of the M1 which conveniently happens to be in London.

Still they do say that if something seems to good to be true then it probably isn't true so maybe you're right.

Coming from the South, J21a is a zillion times better than J25, the perfect route in, & even J24 is better than J25.

It takes me 2 1/2 hours on a good run from Leigh on sea but the risk reward of using the m25/m1 is jus not worth it if your coming from Essex as worst journey to DTD on that route took 4hours plus as the m1 gets snarled up regular

From the Leigh-on-Sea, M11/A1/A52 is deffo the way to go.

Is that the A46?

I went that way last week because that's where Ronnie's kennels are and it seemed pretty quick.

Me and Stu discussed this ages ago and couldn't decide which would be quickest.

What about going back the other way?

I assume that from the South it's better because of traffic from Leicester up to Nottingham?

Southbound never seems as bad though.

What about if you were doing the trip at 4am? Still J21a then?

That's the one & it brings you out right on DTD.

It might be a mile or two more, but deffo quicker, it's undoubtedly, far & away, the most stress-free route in from the M1 South.

Scenically better, too, with rolling countryside, picture postcard villages, empty dual carriageways, new RC bridges which appeal to the eye, even a Go-Kart track adjacent the A46. Part of the A46 is concrete-paved, as opposed to the smoother macadam blacktop which we all prefer, but even that is quaintly appealing to the genuine geek.

Don't forget the speed cameras !!

M25 - M1 better than M11 A1 A52 without doubt

I dont mind the old mans scenic route so much, theres minutes in it.
I think the exact line where it switches from J25 to J21 is somewhere on the 606 between Wheatcroft Island and the A46.

Never the A453 though. Never ever.

Defs agree on the A453 comment, have possibly spent a year of my life waiting in stationary traffic on that road :(. Think M1 currently has a 50mph limit for a ridic amount of time, like from where it joins the M25 till 10 miles past luton, so that might swing it in favour of the A1. What does google say?

This is a very good point. There's no speed cameras on the M1 between 21a and 25 so it's 100+ all the way.

A46 has plenty normal cameras and a 50 restriction for the roadworks which are avg. speed cameras.

If you drive fast on motorways then this has to be considered.

As with poker the 'best route' depends on where the traffic is on the day.

Tikay is completely right about the one junction lower turn off, not only is it scenic but it's also raggable :-)

If you take the M11/A14 route watch out for all the front facing cameras!

The lanes parallel to the A453 are usually fun though.

Not backing rotflmspeedingbanbean, but Google often gets it wrong with its routes as to which is quicker.  Sometimes it tries to send you some very strange routes.

When I go do saaath, I always take the A46 and then onto M1 at Leicester, the A453 is just a massive bottleneck round Clifton. I live Bridgford so obv the J25 is not really an option.

Considering everyone used to think that I lived in nottingham when i'm from Essex I should know the routes!!!


Also Tikay if you want the nice routes, you could always try coming off at Loughborough, the route out of Lboro to the Nottingham Knight Premier Inn junction with the A52 is a really nice road, and great fun :D :)up

This section of the A46 is a part of the old Roman Road, the  Fosse Way, so it's straight as an arrow. It does have one speed camera on it, but apart from that it's like the Mulsanne straight. I still think J24 is the way forwards however- unless you know the traffic is cack on the A453. Surely the A606 from the A46 to Nottingham is just as bad as the A453, though?

Oh and live 5 mins walk from DTD is optimal, obv.

I have to choose which way to turn out of my drive. One way is 20 mins, one way is 21, although these can be reversed depending on whether there is a church service going on and all the christians have blocked the road, damn them.

If you want scenery and shit surely A46, A6, A60 is the way to go?

Fu**in trees everywhere and if you're lucky you might get stuck behind a tractor for half an hour.

Yeah personally I am a fan of, left, left, 3rd exit at the island, 4th exit at the island, left, right, left and park.

Good grief, you must be as old as me to remember the "old" Mulsanne straight with such affection.

Mocking apart, I've enjoyed reading the various routes people take, & the variety of opinions. I was not aware that the A46 on that section was part of the Fosse Way, I sort of thought that was the A5, but now I realise that's wholly illogical, my bad. The section to which we refer must be 7 or 8 miles, totally straight, all Dual Carriageway, with no roundabouts, traffic lights, no nothing. Compare that with the A453 past Radcliffe Power Station, job done.

Perhaps I'd better continue my inane road ramblings on my Diary, rather than here.
