Title: mandatory call ?
Post by: acc2020 on October 31, 2010, 03:36:16 AM
Playing in local headhunter comp , 9 players left , 8 gets paid.
I'm chipleader with approx 40% chips in play.
Blinds 8/16k plus antes.
I make chunky raise and all fold to big blind who only has 2k left and folds.

I'm assuming he spite folded to avoid having to give his bounty to me rather than thinking he's got a chance of scrapping into the money with 1/4 of a small blind left.

In this sort of situation can i get the manager to force him to call .
Earlier i knocked his wife out and took her bounty so it seemed like spite rather than ineptness.

I think if people want to be spiteful, that is there right, no?

So next hand he's all in blind anyway, you spite limp with 7-2o, and get there? Now THAT would be funny :).

the point that your all missing is ur beat, your beat. sometimes in poker when you realise ur beat you've just gotta let the hand go. wp him imo

He's putting in 2k preflop for a 40k+antes pot. There is no hand that is ever that far behind. Even with unconnected offsuit undercards against AA, you're still about 7% to win.

lol @ spite folding :D

regardless of whether he is inept for folding why would you want the TD to force him to call? You are getting both blinds and antes with no possibility of losing the pot - if TD makes him call there is a possibility you will lose but your reward if you win is only extra 2k which at 8/16k is probably 2 antes at most.

sorry - noticed it was headhunter - how much was bounty for knocking players out compared to prize pool?

What a ridiculous question.

Of course you can't force him to call.

If he wants to stupidly fold with 20:1 pot odds that's up to him not you or the TD.

You have to describe what rule you think he is breaking.

If you are proposing a "no playing terribly" rule, than I suggest poker might be about to get very difficult.

I recall reading a poker magazine recently that a tournament diector said he would force someone to call if he was pot committed. So I based my post around that.

Personally was happy that i won the pot uncontested.

(if i'm wrong about what the magazine post said i appologise.I just skim read the article whilst taking a dump)

you probs did read that, there's nothing to stop someone who's a TD also being an idiot

It was one of those free mags from the casino , can't recall the name of it but it was from the last 12 months. It was something like "ask the pros" sponsored by the Hendon Mob.

If anyone could look it up and correct me if i mis understood it.

If you did read something like that I'm sure it would be the other way round i.e. a bigstack getting 20-1 pre and wanting to fold on a bubble.

this one from a few years ago baffled me.

http://www.thehendonmob.com/tournament_director/checking_the_nuts.html

I asked mel about her decision after I'd read it as I couldn't figure out how giving a penalty to the player first to act could in any way be right but she stood by her decision

astonishing that 3 of the 6 tds would penalise someone for trying to check raise

lol @ those replies!

This one especially!:

"There’s nothing you can do about it. The player with the royal flush didn’t know the other player had 4 queens. If he doesn’t want to knock him out he doesn’t have to. There is an old old rule in poker that you can’t bet a royal flush, you can only call with it. The player with the royal flush probably thought he wasn’t going to get a call anyway."
