Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: ForthThistle on November 04, 2010, 11:10:04 AM So Tighty...
are you telling me there is nothing in Scotland worth visiting with respect to holding a Poker Day/Tourney. Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: TightEnd on November 04, 2010, 11:21:13 AM So Tighty... are you telling me there is nothing in Scotland worth visiting with respect to holding a Poker Day/Tourney. Currently yes. As I implied the Alea Glasgow was very disappointing last year (from an organisational viewpoint) Before that my recent experiences as an organiser at the Gala Maybury Edinburgh were disappointing Aberdeen is too far for 95% of the likely players of a Sky event Another venue in Glasgow has an insurmountable problem with diasabled access, and the facilities are all on 1st floor not ground level Even Stars hires out the Corn Exhange because of lack of suitable venues So, we could go back to Scotland easily, but if we get let down as we have been, we'd prefer to give business to those who can deliver, seeing as each venue costs thousands of pounds to use. Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: Newportlad on November 05, 2010, 01:23:01 AM Good to see that you have chosen Les Croups for the Welsh leg of this.
They haven't run a big poker event there, so it will be a test for them. The cardroom is definitely up to the mark. Not sure about how they will cope will feeding 150+ runners. Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: turny on November 05, 2010, 01:27:01 AM its unusual to see a tour announced after the first leg has already been played, was this intentional and if so what was the thinking behind this?

They haven't run a big poker event there, so it will be a test for them. The cardroom is definitely up to the mark. Not sure about how they will cope will feeding 150+ runners. Both Aspers Swansea & Grosvenor Cardiff let us down in various ways, so we needed a Welsh Venue. (Just as we need a Scottish venue that "performs"). A number of our Welsh Clients flagged up Les Croups, but neither Tighty (who Manages the Tour, which includes sourcing & negotiating with the Venues) or I had been there. So I went down there one night in late August, ostensibly to play a Tourney, (which, chirp chirp, I won, from a huge field) but really to suss the place out. Sofa-King came along, too, so that enlivened the evening & made the journey worthwhile! Anyway, the Venue ticked all the boxes. The Cardroom, which is upstairs, has no Table Games, which is good for our TV cameras, as we are not allowed to point a camera in the direction of House Games. The room is sparse, but large, with a restaurant at one end, & a side-area/lounge for non-players. All in all, perfect. The Car Park - always a problem - is massive - it is in fact the new Cardiff City Football Stadium Car Park. I met with the owner, a bluff Welshman, who is quite a character. He will, apparently, take ANY size bet on the wheel or Blackjack as long as he is Pit Boss - which he does full time, every day. Remarkable for a man well into his dotage, I'd say. We chatted, he seemed agreeable if the money was right, & very much wanted to cut a deal. I reported back to Tighty overnight, & the next morning Tighty contacted him, & agreed the deal in a single phone call. If only it were always that easy. So, if it all goes tits up when we go down there, blame Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: TightEnd on November 05, 2010, 09:16:36 AM its unusual to see a tour announced after the first leg has already been played, was this intentional and if so what was the thinking behind this? The announcement was to be tied up with a number of other initiatives, so we went ahead with the first leg only and delayed the announcement of the rest at Sky's request. Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: sofa----king on November 05, 2010, 03:23:36 PM I can assure u 100%
les croups will manage this perfect as they HAVE had a few big ones oneway poker tour etc every Friday they get over 150 runners everyweek I'm sure the card room manager will cope with this easy he's a top guy all dealers are very well spoken and they know how to deal I introduced tikay to mac the owner mac is a top guy no frills pure old school punter his word is his bond no need for paperwork and solicitors true he takes any bet on house games so long as he's there to watch it not many privately owned casinos around anymore Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: Newportlad on November 05, 2010, 04:54:39 PM I know that they have held OneWay poker tournaments there, but my query was with regard to the food/waitress side of the place. They do not put on buffets for the OneWay poker events there. The cardroom itself it certainly capable of holding this.

The Room reminds me very much of the "old" downstairs room at Rendezvous Brighton - plain, but functional. Best of all, we are self-contained. I'm hopeful it will go well. Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: Newportlad on November 05, 2010, 05:22:22 PM I'm sure it will. Will try and get through the online qualifying for this.

It was at Aspers. Tikay telling the casino off for running out of chips was quite funny. How does a casino run out of chips?
Does anybody know why more of the events cannot be two day deep stacks. I would make an effort to play more of them if a few more of them had a structure like the Grand Final but it just does not seem worth travelling for an event that lasts less than a day. I would guess a lot of people feel the same. Is the SPT that well supported compared to what it could be? I have no idea as I have only played one as it was literally down the road from my house. Do the events sell out? Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: BAM on November 05, 2010, 05:47:47 PM Is the structure going to change or will it be just baaaad like the one in Blackpool?

Do the events sell out? Yup, you could not make it up, they run out of chips. In truth, they were a bit of a disaster, after being so good the pevious year. On the previous occasion, they sent Chris down from Aspers Newecastle to run the Event, & he was well on top of everything. In addition, they built a wall which cut the Cardroom in half. They told us it was a "partitiion" which could be removed overnight. Some sort of misunderstanding, it seems. They will remain one-day Events, except the Grand Final, for this Season, & probably next season, too. They are as much social events as poker tourneys, & exceedingly popular, "as are". We lay on masses of "fun" SNG's & suchlike, rake-free where possible, & these are incredibly popular. The Presenters & Analysts deal these SNG's usually. If peeps want 2 day Events, (& many of us do) there are plenty around. The cost for a season of these is eye-watering, & if we make them all 2 day Events, it ups the cost considerably, especially with the TV Crew & suchlike, it's amazing how the cost adds up. They are designed to fit a specific role in the SP Community, & are totally fit for purpose. All the Events - 13 so far I think - have been fully sold-out, & we hope that with the Client Base still growing at an extraordinary rate, that will continue. I look forward to seeing you in Cardiff. The Welsh leg is always a bit special, & sells out yonks in advance, so try to qualify early. Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: TightEnd on November 05, 2010, 06:19:31 PM Is the structure going to change or will it be just baaaad like the one in Blackpool? and the answer to this one, to follow on to tikay's answer above, is that a structure needs to be designed to find a winner from 150 starters over one day, finishing around midnight from a 2pm start All things considered, its a good structure (5K, 30 mins) given that. Indeed an extra level was added for the 2010-11 events Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: TightEnd on November 05, 2010, 06:22:47 PM A casino has to be able to host 150+ people, plus space for tv crews, updaters It has to be accessible for players travelling from across the country The venue needs to be affordable, and want to host us, and work with us..ie 15-18 dealers, buffet, PA system but as much as that management willingness to pull out the stops Last time I looked, as I did for Dundee for an APAT last year, they couldn't fit 150 in. Accessibility for long distance travellers is also a problem Happily look again if I am now wrong Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: Boba Fett on November 05, 2010, 06:34:46 PM A casino has to be able to host 150+ people, plus space for tv crews, updaters It has to be accessible for players travelling from across the country The venue needs to be affordable, and want to host us, and work with us..ie 15-18 dealers, buffet, PA system but as much as that management willingness to pull out the stops Last time I looked, as I did for Dundee for an APAT last year, they couldn't fit 150 in. Dundee, I'd love to go and do Tannadice and look at Dens park (while I can) if possible....however the fact is its not the simplest journey for the lily livered Southerners to get to either Title: Re: Sky Poker Tour 2010-11 Post by: Alverton on November 05, 2010, 06:45:05 PM lol I meant capacity and management willingness. Management would be willing/ enough poker staff and they would be good. Capacity is problem, 100 is max, maybe 110 with a squeeze but still room for tv crews etc. I didnt realise you needed 150+ when I asked. |
