Title: OT: Why now?
Post by: Trace on December 26, 2005, 06:10:42 PM
My shower's just gone kaput and is chucking out freezing cold water!!!  Only good thing about it is that only my head was under it at the time.

Why now?  Why not last week or after New Year?

I'm not a happy bunny..............

Anyone know a cheap plumber near Preston?

Kev, I am truly sorry for laughing at your washing machine predicament now!!!

Plenty of cheap plummers i am sure, but once they enter the posh part they are bound to rip you off.

As for them charging more when they enter a posh area......come come...The amount they charge they can afford to live in and indeed do habitate the posh areas...

If you've still got hot water elsewhere then it is the shower unit itself, you can buy 'em for as little as £40 and the fitting is no huge thing (couple of compression joints), anyone with a bit of DIY experience can fit one, needn't be too expensive.

My best m8's hubby is a plumber, but catching him sober at this time of year could be a problem...

GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Shower unit is now in pieces, (I'm lethal with a screwdriver) so I guess I'm off out tomorrow to buy a new one!

Keep the cold shower, it will help to quell the urges

Just thinking the same thing, and I could fix the shower at the same time. Think of it like a sort of down payment

My Dad has offered to come with me to get a new one, and he'll probably fit it for me too - sorry boys!!!

75 quid later and new shower is in!!

What a complete bag of poop!

If I want a freezing cold shower then wow what power, soon as you turn the temp up, the pressure drops and the water trickles, even only if I put it on warm.  It's a 9.5kw shower, just like the one that went bust, but for some reason the water pressure is rubbish.

Any plumbers in the house with any advice?

The only thing i can suggest is a power unit, though i'm not 100% you can purchase them seperately.
They go before the shower unit and boost the pressure.
Are you sure the new shower was put in correctly?
Was the cut of valve fully reopened?
It seems odd that you have lost pressure.

Yes and Yes IFM - it's soooo frustrating.

This one is a 9.5kw Gainsborough shower, just like the one that went buggered.  Different model, but same make.  It's confused the hell out of me.
