Title: NL200 at the empire Post by: _steven levitt_ on November 17, 2010, 11:58:44 AM Hey,
Playing £1 £2 at empire, table is now forming and everyone is sitting with 50-80 except for one guy who buys in for 350. I sit with 100. Thoughts wanted for preflop, flop and turn really :/ First hand, utg (350) makes it 12 and its folded to me on the button with Ahrt Ks. I don't really like shoving as its against a randoms 6x utg range and am either going to be -EV flipping or chopping when called, don't like 3betting as it really only leaves me with one pot sized bet and hate just getting it in hoping, so elect to call. Blinds fold, pot 27. Flop is Ac 8c 3c. He leads for £20 after 5-6s. I think shoving here is bad as when we're called we're either giving them a freeroll or beat i think, and flatting looks weak so he may shove some non club turns too. Plus if he has a hand like Ax Qc we can get it in on non club turns with way more equity. So i elect to flat (thoughts) Turn is 6h. He doesn't think for too long again and checks. Pot is 67 and i have 67 back. I think checking behind doesnt give us any extra value from all his KcKx - 10c-10x combos as is prob not calling non club rivers, betting 35 with 35 back looks pretty strong and might get him to fold the hands we're getting value from. Shoving makes are hand look a bit more like a KcQx float type thing which might get picked off by Ax hands or the KK-1010 combos mentioned earlier, so I chose to shove. I thought it was interesting as the hand is essentially in a complete vaccuum given it was the first hand of a new table and was readless. Any thoughts to my line? (Will post results later) Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: pleno1 on November 17, 2010, 12:01:18 PM You got 50bigs, just 3bet/call.
Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: StuartHopkin on November 17, 2010, 12:02:21 PM Raise to £40 pre snap his shove
Shove the flop Shove turn Your shortstacking a live 1/2 game, there is no need to make this hand as complicated as you have. Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: pleno1 on November 17, 2010, 12:17:53 PM Live cash games should have a min buying of 100 bigs imo. And the 100bb cap tables tilt me so much.

Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: skolsuper on November 17, 2010, 02:30:33 PM It's not that we're immediately thinking the worst at all, it's just that it's a waste to just smash in AK pre here. Even against a tight range (13%) AKo has >30% equity on 70% of flops so we will almost always be able to continue, and we make a big average profit the times when we hit. Call it implied odds. I'm pretty sure the profit from flatting and playing this hand in pos dwarves our marginal profit from 3bet-calling it pre vs a UTG raiser, since that 3bet is gonna look so strong 1st hand of a session.
Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: DMorgan on November 17, 2010, 02:35:15 PM I think you played it fine but raise/calling or shoving are fine too. I think I just shove against a guy that seems like he's gunna be pretty active, I'd expect you to get snapped off by AQ maybe AJs, the rest you're flipping against or he folds and you pick up the £15 in there
Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: pleno1 on November 17, 2010, 02:36:30 PM 50 bigs is hard to play. sit deep or shortstack smaller, or preferably sit deep or sit oot.

(Will post results later) suggest you get it in on flop, your stack size means with any Q/K high fd he pretty much has to call it off and you are so shallow you just got to get this in. pre is fine/std v anyone thats thinking, but iv been to empire and 3b call is gonna be much better. they are monkeys. Title: Re: NL200 at the empire Post by: cambridgealex on November 17, 2010, 05:28:16 PM you've made this hand hard by overthinking it, and by sitting 50bbs in the first place. i'd 3bet/get it in pre with 50bigs vs someone that buys in for 3.5-7x what the rest of the table has bought in for. He has money to splash about, and could be opening the first hand with a very wide range. Let him splash it about. Flatting pre is fine for this reason too.
Shoving the flop is definitely not bad as you said, you have good equity vs his range. You're unlikely to be less than 60% when you get it in here. He'll call it off with good fds, and lots of Ax hands which you have crushed. Get it in here. As played defo shove turn. Personally il be 3bettinf pre-flop and be pretty delighted about it, but I dont hate on your thought process at all, i agree with comments that you might be over-thinking this hand slightly and making things a bit complex, but all tyour thoughts seem pretty sound to me. |
