Title: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: sovietsong on November 23, 2010, 01:11:37 PM Hello All,
Pretty sure this has been done so apologies for another boring thread about setups. I could do with a little assistance if possible. I am not a computer guy, I can turn it on and pick up the odds bits but when it comes to anything hi-tech i struggle. Any help is much appreciated! Current Set up Laptop Acer Aspire 5732z Intel Pentium T4400 (2.2 Ghz, 800MHz FSB) Intel GMA 4500M 15.6 HD LCD 3 GB Memory 250 GB HDD Acer Nplify 802.11 b/g/n Games Played At present I am playing 45man SnGs on FTP, generally playing max 9 tables but playing in batches (normally 12 at a time). I play with laptop on knee using the little mousepad. I don't make many mistakes but don't think this is a very +ev set up so to speak. I was reading MC's blog and looked at his set up and think I need to sort this out ASAP. I would like to play 9 tables continuously rather than in batches which is a bit tricky on the lappy. Proposal I'm going to buy a computer desk (already got a decent chair but it is currently used to store my man bag and coat), I dont really want to spend any money on a new comp but would like to, if possible, connect my Acer to a monitor (unsure on size but dont want to spend the world). Help Is it possible, how do I do it and if I set up a link between Laptop and monitor can I just use the monitor, I really don't know what I am talking about. Hopefully its clear what I would like to do. Basically have a better set up. Laptop on knee is brilliant... but I feel sitting up properly would be better ! Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: gatso on November 23, 2010, 01:19:07 PM step 1. buy a monitor
step 2. plug it into your lappy step 3. play poker it is that simple Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: kinboshi on November 23, 2010, 01:19:44 PM Should be simple to plug in any monitor to your laptop with a vga cable on pretty much any version of windows.

Although xbox controllers are great...I use joy2key, convert all the buttons to key presses using that software and then have table ninja using those keys as shortcuts....its too easy to fold or shove though...the amount of times i've tilted then just kept firing the shove button.... :( Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: gatso on November 25, 2010, 04:02:05 PM how does the xbox thingy work. do you need some receiving unit to plug into your lappy?
Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: keilan303 on November 25, 2010, 04:05:06 PM I bought a cheap xbox controller from asda for about £12 (I don't own an Xbox, PS3 ftw) It had a USB connector on the end so was just a case of simply plugging it in, it found its own driver (this was in Vista, might not be so easy in XP).
JoytoKey is the program that turns the buttons into keystrokes, if you open the controller configuration from the Control Panel there is a test panel where you can press each button on the controller and find the corresponding button number. http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: gatso on November 25, 2010, 07:29:19 PM so I would need a usb connector from somewhere then? I have 2 controllers for my xbox but afaik no connector
Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: keilan303 on November 25, 2010, 07:51:20 PM Are they wireless? I've used my PS3 controllers aswell but needed to use the charging cable (USB) and a specific driver to get them working. Maybe someone who owns an XBox can help?
Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: Cottonbud on November 25, 2010, 08:06:29 PM Hey lads
need some expert advice I have recently purchased this setup http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-md230x6-widescreen-lcd-eyefinity-monitor-74NZ.html?refs=50429-52980000 (http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-md230x6-widescreen-lcd-eyefinity-monitor-74NZ.html?refs=50429-52980000) I put it all together which took several hours and then realised my graphics card wasn't compatible, I have an alienware custom built comp it cost alot of money and is of the highest spec, I'm no computer genius but I have set up 3 monitors in the past and it all worked fine. I recently purchased this graphics card http://www.awd-it.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=8420 (http://www.awd-it.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=8420) which is compatible with the setup so I can use all 6 monitors at once I have it all correctly plugged in with the mini dp ports and I have also installed the software disc for the graphics card. My problem is only 1 monitor is working out of the 6 this is the main monitor which is connected via the main power supply. It wont detect any of the other 5 monitors and I have no idea why? Does anyone know any reason why or have a similar setup? All ideas are welcomed. Thanks for any help James Title: Re: Poker Setups - linking laptop to a monitor Post by: kinboshi on November 25, 2010, 09:19:21 PM Hey lads need some expert advice I have recently purchased this setup http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-md230x6-widescreen-lcd-eyefinity-monitor-74NZ.html?refs=50429-52980000 (http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-md230x6-widescreen-lcd-eyefinity-monitor-74NZ.html?refs=50429-52980000) I put it all together which took several hours and then realised my graphics card wasn't compatible, I have an alienware custom built comp it cost alot of money and is of the highest spec, I'm no computer genius but I have set up 3 monitors in the past and it all worked fine.
