Title: selling a pc, questions
Post by: thetank on December 03, 2010, 08:36:15 PM
Selling my desktop coz I've nowhere to put it really and no need for it since I gave up the pokers.

Few questions from peeps who might have experience and know about this stuff.

Bought new in July of 2009

Also have Dell 21" monitor and 24" monitor, bought in early 2006 but still in good working order.

Questions

1. Where should I look to flog it.

2. How much should I look to charge?

3. Would I be better off selling the PC with the 21" monitor and selling the 24" monitor seperately?

tank why did you give up the pokerz?  will you never return?

Probably not. I'm an all or nothing guy when it comes to the online pokers. I couldn't just grind a little on Wednesday evenings, that wouldn't work for me. I'd want to be on leaderboards and increase my volume to bink more often and get bonuses and etc etc.

Even though I didn't really enjoy it, when I'm in poker mode I found it hard to focus on anything else and my work/life balance was a bit screwed.

Not to mention that my idea of fiscal responsiblity when I was an online pro meant grinding lots (and screwing work/life balance even more than usual) when my bank balance was low. I didn't see any connection between constantly spending my money on shite and my bank balance sometimes getting low.

Without online poker I have much less cash, but the cash I do have goes further because I think before I spend it. I'm also a much happier bunny overall.

Don't regret playing poker, learnt some stuff, had some fun. Just time for me to move on. Bought this machine just to be a poker machine, don't need it anymore and don't really have a space for it in the house now second bedroom has been designated for the new baby.

ooh, another question.

If I don't sell it locally, how does posting big expensive computer bits work. Do you get a courier? Anywhere I can get advice with regard to how to pack the bugger so it still works at the other end?

Definately not something I'm against, but I need to sell the PC as there's something important I need to do with the money in February and I don't want to borrow off folk nor do I have much in the way of disposable income each month to save towards that end.

I don't feel bad as most of my stuff I've given away in clearouts in the last year. Not much experience in selling because I've always been more of a giver awayer

Third most populated Borough in London I think. Now let's allow tankypoos to get answers to his questions.
(Diverting attention before we get stuck in a Q and A session to pin point my location)

the prescription sunnies or the regular ones?

if u cant sell both of ur monitors i will prob buy the 24 inch one off you

if u give me ur specs and price

have had another request by pm for it, but will put you second in the queue if he backs out

so amidst the japes it seems advice from thread is to

- Sell the 'puter on e-bay (thusly the price issue will sort itself out to an extent, it goes to highest bidder innit)
- Use a door to door courier to ship it
- Flog the 24" monitor seperately to some dude on here who digs the 4 tabling no overlap resolution that only 24" and above seems to satisfice.

Seems like the way forward?

So my 4 stage plan from this point is to

1. use google for advice on how to pack a 'puter and that for shipping
2. pack the 'puter and that for shipping
3. I'll then know the dimensions and weight of box/boxes are so can get some quotes for courierage
4. flog the fukkers

Thank you JD

Yep moved, no longer living in the beautiful valley, miss that place, with the views etc, ah and that nice comfy armchair suitable for globe trotting poker players to fall asleep in. From there I moved into a camper for a year and now in Croydon.

PS Gratz on the WSOP result.

Maybe worth checking out prices on ebay then giving selling it a go in the local paper.  Ebay is going to take a nice chunk of you in commission for selling that, then Paypal will want some too.  Nothing to lose by doing that except a week or two maybe.
