Wouldn't have sacked him but wouldn't have given him a new contract and give him until later in the season and see if a change is needed. Please be Keegan. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: pleno1 on December 06, 2010, 02:36:34 PM wtf? Stabilised the club completely, got the best out of our players who struggled off the pitch, Barton/Carroll etc. Beat the scum 5-1, drew with Chelsea, beat Arenal away, god run in league cup, cruised the league last year, made some excellent signings Williamson for example.
Done all of this without much financial backing, 5-10 of his best players been removed from his squad and on a part time coaches wage. Feel absolutely gutted for the bloke he was an assistant manager for 10+ years and waited patiently for his chance, massive, massive kick in the bollocks. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: MANTIS01 on December 07, 2010, 06:44:10 PM Not really shocked by this. If Ashley was going to go with Hughton he would have offered him a contract at the start of the season. I can only guess that his relationship with the players was too casual and Ashley didn't like his man-management. Or perhaps sponsorship opportunities were affected by his low profile, but if that is the case I hardly think Pardew remedies that.

Couple "die hard" fans trying to say get behind Pardew Patrick Leonard He knows that Ashley has admitted we're a selling club, he knows that he's fucked over 3 respected managers in the past, he knows that Ashley doesn't give a fuck about the fans. He knows he has to do exactly what Ashley sais otherwise he wi...ll get sacked (yes man) Any manager who agrees to a regime like that will never get my backing.. Real managers like O'Neill would never take the job in a million years for the above reasons. Obviously he's unemployed and being offered millions, hard to say no to the job. But I'd rather the fans let him know he's not welcome. Always defended Ashley but it really is time to go now. Patrick Leonard 5 year plan with Pardew at the relm will result in 30,000 every week watching a team who comes 17th every year and sells our bet assets.... Keegan/Hughton wanted to take the club forward, wanted to keep our best players and wanted to keep expanding. Did you know apart from Man U/Chelsea we're set to make the biggest profit this season. Low wage budget, not much money sent, TV money, fans receipts, this is the way Ashley wants to go, its imperrative he leaves otherwise the club will be internally ruined within 5 years Patrick Leonard Ashley sold all the players under him, generated millions which were needed IF we didnt get promoted. You get a parachute payment so havn't lost out as we back in a year which you need to do. He's given Hughton no money and if they were "Gr...aham Carr's" signings then that once again shows that Ashley is getting people in instead of Hugton, I'm assuming it will be the same with Pardew. Yes man. Hughton brought stability to the club, changed the "worst chnaging room atmosphere" into perhaps the best in the country, turned Andy Carroll into an international striker from a young lad, changed Barton from a thug to on the verge of an international. The players like him, the fans like him, we've beaten big teams, we've beat Sunderland 5-1 I think he's done everything and more possible to take the club forward. Patrick Leonard Management qualities because he's brought a dressing room together, I think it's unfair he's had criticism from the press and evidently Ashley that he's just a "coach". They have teams on like 20 these days from phycologists, nutritionists to motivators, he provd he was perfect for the job. Don't get me wrong if Pardew does come and the fans get on his back it will 100% have a negative effect. The protests should 100% happen away from the stadium but I doubt they will. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: pleno1 on December 08, 2010, 12:16:45 PM Reportedly, odds went from 16/1 to 1/2 that Hughton wasgetting the sack on Monday morning. Is this the stupidest managerial sacking in recent memory? Instant reaction to the news that nice, honourable, decent Chris Hughton has been sacked by Newcastle has tended to centre on the they-shot-Bambi angle. There is another side, though. He was also successful Chris Hughton. Champions of the Football League in May, Newcastle have been a sprightly presence in the Premier League. Six weeks ago they outplayed West Ham at Upton Park. Five weeks ago they beat Sunderland 5-1. Four weeks ago they won at Arsenal. Last week they drew with the champions. This week – is this really right? – they sacked their manager. It is the most self-destructive of axings and Newcastle may pay dearly for underestimating their ex-manager's grasp on his players. Hughton's success lay in uniting a potentially volatile bunch: Andy Carroll, beset by legal process and tabloid sting, might have disappeared off the radar this season. Instead, through careful husbandry, he has flourished. Even Joey Barton has for the most part seemed agreeably focused. This has been a tactfully engineered balancing act. Whoever steps in next ... well, good luck with all of that. Right up until about 2pm this afternoon Newcastle did not look like a club in any imminent danger of sliding down the table into serious relegation trouble. It is hard to be quite so confident now. There is no doubt Mike Ashley is some way short of a footballing oracle, but surely even Ashley would have grasped the truism that sacking your manager in finely-poised mid-season rarely has a positive effect. There had been indications elsewhere that the mania for aspirational managerial sackings, the twitchy, grass-is-always-greener, sacking-for-sacking's-sake, might have abated. Hughton is the first Premier League sacking of the season, the longest wait for managerial blood since 1995-96. It seems an ignominious thing, not just because Hughton's Newcastle were an engaging team playing to their potential; not just because he is a nice man curating a difficult group of players with an engagingly light touch; but because it provides a reminder of the enduring block-headedness of a certain species of Premier League chairman. Presumably Mike Ashley has an alternative lined up. There has already been some talk about Martin O'Neill, the usual Alans (Curbishley, Pardew, Shearer) plus – God help him – Frank Rijkaard. The club has indicated it requires more managerial "experience". And perhaps Ashley, rather than simply wanting to stay in the Premier League long enough to sell the club, really has bought into grandiose misconceptions of sleeping giants, massive football clubs, Geordie nations et al and believes 11th in the table, one spot above Liverpool, is underachievement. O'Neill, already among the favourites, would be a sound appointment for pretty much any club in the Premier League. But it is still hard to see Newcastle finishing this season above where they are now; and even harder to avoid the feeling that a period of careful retrenchment has just been rather mindlessly truncheoned into tiny pieces. Certainly football looks a little bit stupider – not to mention unerringly self-destructive – as of this afternoon. That's why the fans won't accept it. It's common knowledge now that they are good friends from London, the fans hate the "Cockney connections" and have got "cockney mafia out" banners etc, bringing in Pardew will cause huge riots. Clearly he's going to see out this contract! Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: pleno1 on December 09, 2010, 11:23:56 AM 6 seasons with him? wtf. Ashley trying to asset strip the club, slowly over the next 6 seasons will try and recoup what he's lost without putting anything back into the club, will fuck off back to London and we will be royally fucked. Lots of noise up here about mass protesting on Saturday.
Another thing just sprung to mind. Collocini was absolutely awful in his first season under Shearer/Keegan and seemed an absolute flop for 9m. Hughton obviously spent alot of time working with him and he is now a very very good defender. He's turned Andy Carroll from a decent 4th choice striker to England international. Barton, thug/fans booing him every game - fans favourite. I am absolutely gutted for him and never had so much respect for someone in football. Hope he gets a chance somewhere as he really is better than just an assistant or coach. Ashley, hang your head in shame. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: Div on December 09, 2010, 11:28:29 AM he'll never have to work again when he's sacked Precisely. Hopefully Shearers agreed to work under Pardew in 2-3 seasons and take over at the end of the 5 years. Norwich City Leicester City Camel's list is about right I think History, crowds, on field success, support outside their home area etc all come together in these tiers and I think he's right on Chelsea too Tier 5 is the likes of WBA, Stoke, Wolves, Forest, Derby, Leicester, Probably put Bolton in there, Norwich, maybe Ipswich, Pompey, QPR etc Blackpool and Wigan don't make the top 5 tiers Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: pleno1 on December 09, 2010, 05:11:52 PM I love this discussion, argued for many many years about what a "big club" is.
Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: TightEnd on December 09, 2010, 05:13:49 PM Blackburn, Cardiff, Sheff U in tier 5. Boro
All others except those named outside top five tiers I reckon Only those in top 4 tiers count as big clubs afai am concerned Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: gatso on December 09, 2010, 05:20:37 PM on what basis are leicester up there above numerous other clubs rich?
Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: TightEnd on December 09, 2010, 05:23:52 PM on what basis are leicester up there above numerous other clubs rich? A provincial City team with crowds 20,000+ for ever. Decent long history in the top flight in 1950s-1970s, yo yo since. Four cup finals, three LC finals, two European entries Not a big team but one of the bigger medium teams. Same as Forest, Derby and the rest. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: pleno1 on December 09, 2010, 05:24:21 PM Liverpool in tier 1 for me and Arsenal in league 3 with the rest.
So league 1: Man U, Lpool Tier 2: Man City, Leeds, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Sheff Weds, Spurs Tier 3: Chelsea, Everton, Birmingham, West Ham, Tier 4: Blackburn, Cardiff, Sheff U, WBA, Stoke, Wolves, Forest, Derby, Leicester, Bolton, Norwich, Ipswich, QPR I prob leave Pompey w/Wigan/Bpool Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: TightEnd on December 09, 2010, 05:27:39 PM on what basis are leicester up there above numerous other clubs rich? Same as Forest, Derby and the rest. and I would add that Forest and Derby could be higher if it was for long term on field success after all there are EC and PL winners there...but for me crowd size is a big factor. they are up to 30k or so and and to me to be a big team you have to be capable of having crowds of 35-40k ish. Of course stadia is a limiting factor here but even when there was terracing they weren't getting the crowds of the big boys Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: gatso on December 09, 2010, 05:30:06 PM right, I'm off to start a quiz on a new thread
Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: The Camel on December 09, 2010, 05:39:45 PM I think Portsmouth and Southampton are pretty big clubs too, probably deserve to be in tier 4 at least.
Bristol City are a big club in waiting, really fanatical support and a pretty big catchment area.. shame they have a terrible ground and are run by idiots. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: Horneris on December 09, 2010, 06:27:59 PM Camels is good cept i think you also have to put Liverpool in tier one.

He's been incred this season, only better player we've had is Carroll.Barton's playing as well as he ever has,and that's very well. I think he's a really good player. But for obv reasons I wouldn't touch him with a very long bargepole. By all means give someone who has fcked up a second chances. Barton is about his tenth chance. He's a baddun and cannot be trusted. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: pleno1 on December 12, 2010, 02:40:29 AM Reports are he's taking a wage cut too, it just doesn't make sense. Perhaps he's going to be in the NOTW in the next couple of weeks. If Ashley can get 5m he will get rid I think but will be a huge mistake, IMO Joey Barton should be in the England squad on current form.
Although I agree he can't be trusted I do think he is more likely to behave at Newcastle than any other club as he really enjoys the passionate way the fans conduct themselves and I think he really wants to do well for us. Obviously he will flip out now and again he's a scally but for once in his career he has a dressing room who are all similar personalities and are all in for the same course. I got a soft spot for JB and I really want him to do well. Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: mondatoo on December 12, 2010, 02:44:23 AM I disagree he's a baddun although I know that sounds stupid, have you ever found yourself behaving totally different to the person that you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs woteva ?
To digress a bit,is it just me who thinks it's some what of a joke that Barton who is an alcoholic and trying to stay off the drink gets giving a bottle of champagne for geting MOTM ? WTF Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: Alverton on December 12, 2010, 02:48:45 AM If Newcastle can get 5mill+ for him, why wouldn't they cash in on such a unreliable player? If he becomes the barton of old again then theres not a chance there'll be able to sell.
Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: toddswain on December 12, 2010, 02:55:58 AM So Ridic if we sell him, hes in our top 5 best players imo, Carrol Nolan Barton Enrique, prob Tiote. £5m is such a bad price for what he is, and i doubt vmuch he would want to leave us for a team on level par with us, and no1 else is going to want to buy him.
btw die ashley Title: Re: Chris Hughton Sacked Post by: toddswain on December 12, 2010, 03:11:02 AM I f love Barton, his crossing is unreal, so underrated, i prefer nolan upfront but i like it when we play carroll and ameobi together so nolan can play mid, and Tiote is the nuts, mops up everything loose in midfield and i think he holds it all together really well, did a great job today vs pool. And i agree what your saying bout pool. Them 3 would be huge for them. Keep our players one time Ashley and forget about ur back pocket

The guys f'in awful imo. Good relationship with Enrique and good going back. I would love to see him given a chance at RB as I think he could do really well, especialy when Ben Arfa, arguably out best player comes back next year. Nolan is turd in midfield. He is farrrrrr too slow, he is however a FANTASTIC box man, perhaps better than any other stirker in the premiership, his anticipation and bottle is second to none. However he just isn't good enough to play centre mid for us. I'd love to see us go and buy a quality centre mid in January, but buying a good centre mid and selling Barton is 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Taylor explains his decision to stay Posted on: Tue 04 Jan 2011 Peter Taylor has this afternoon (Tuesday) spoken with the official website to explain his decision to stay at the football club despite interest from Newcastle United. The Premier League club approached City for permission to speak to Taylor about joining the coaching staff at St James Park, but the Bantams boss has decided to stay at Valley Parade and continue in his role as first team manager. Taylor said: "I was flattered to be asked by Alan Pardew to be his assistant at such a huge club like Newcastle United. It is something I have always said I would be interested in doing one day. "I have a lot of respect for Alan and for Newcastle United, who are a magnificent club, but I just really didn't want to break my commitment here at Bradford.
