Post by: pleno1 on December 11, 2010, 06:43:23 PM
Groomi raises to $3
A Blank Rhyme raises to $10
Groomi calls $7
*** FLOP *** [5d 8d 7h]
A Blank Rhyme bets $13
Groomi calls $13
*** TURN *** [5d 8d 7h] [3s]
A Blank Rhyme bets $23
Groomi calls $23
*** RIVER *** [5d 8d 7h 3s] [6s]
A Blank Rhyme bets $547.70, and is all in
Groomi ?

Villains range? What are you calling with here? We have $49 behind.

i think you are gonna need to be a lot more detailed to get any decent response.

reads/stats? 3b/cb 3bpot/turn and river are v important.

Guy had $600 when I sat down, he's 3bet twice, I've called both times, called the flop and folded the turn.

We played less than 25 hands.

Not too much info to give except I sat down because he had 600bbs.

Oh, one thing was that he raised 2x with 84o once and then 3x'd with jq. But only hands which were shown down.

This is a pretty poor strategy in general

He pretty much just has a 9 imo, with a ten a lot of the time. Would still call sets and top 2 pair in case he turns overpairs or 56/67 into a bluff, but JJ or 76 for example are folds I reckon. This is a good flop to clickraise with pretty much whatever you have flatted pre btw.

Agree we need much more info.  What position are you and villain in?  Have his previous 3bets been from button/CO??

That said with the info on offer and against a random that had three bet me twice in 25 hands I think this is really close.  Overpairs are a big part of his range I think but I am not sure they are 80% of his range which is what you are going to need to call with 2 pair.  99 makes a lot of sense as does 89 and 9d10d with 6d7d to a lesser degree.  I think I probably can just about find a call with 78 but it is very close and fwiw I don't think that is what you had.  I call with any set upwards but it close enough that I don't think a call with top two or folding bottom set is horrible if that makes sense??

it's 2 in 12 hands because we have button once each. DUCY?

What position? Well I opened first so I'm on the button obviously.

WTF? You "just about make a call with 89" Really? I think that would be the easiest fist pump ever.

Interesting, seems high variance but I guess you could work a clickraising range in to a solid overall strategy on this flop texture. Since most people might not be familiar with such an old school tactic I have done some research so we can look at a bit of the history behind the clickraise:

Wild Bill Hickock coined this term back in the late 1860's. Although the exact year of it's origin is unknown rumour has it that Wild Bill was participating in a heated and intense session of high stakes deuces wild when it was first heard. The details of the hand are unclear but the game was apparently 4 handed and involved one of Bills biggest foes at the felt, a man heavily affiliated with the infamous McCanles gang, Henry "Three Eyes" (named as such on account of a prominent wart). Three Eyes was a noted lawbreaker and had had several run ins with Bill in the preceding year, most notably in an attritional shootout in the months following Hickocks slaying of David McCanles. Hickock and Three Eyes frequently clashed and this day was no different. In a hand involving effective stacks exceeding 10,000bbs Bill pulled what was later labeled a "trifecta clickraise" or a "Wild Bill" amongst certain gambling circles. After executing said play Three Eyes mucked his hand in the face of Hickock followed by a perfectly aimed ball of spit. Hickock wiped his face clean and triumphantly exclaimed, "Son. You just got clickraised!!" At this point Three Eyes is said to have reached for his pistol but before his heart could take it's next beat it would take no more. Hickock was later cleared of any charges following confirmation by numerous witnesses that he acted in self defence. Despite being one of the most misapplied concept in the history of deuces wild the clickraise was subsequently immortalized in poker lexicon and even saw a resurgence when the late Stu Ungar used a variation of the trifecta clickraise in his handicapped gin rummy games.

That's all I wanted to add to the discussion. The clickraise essentially became the cbet the 19 century and even though it might be obsolete in todays games, it's good to see it get a mention!

No reads at all without explaining how you play probs makes it differcult. Could be a 90/12 whopper or a 74/68 Isildur.

I've said, it's been 25 hands, so 12 buttons each. The only hands of note are him 3betting pre and betting two streets and winning. Only other hand is when he minraised the button with nothing.

I actually said I just about call with 78.  89 is obv a part of "I call with any set upwards".

Well.... I think we can all agree that this is the post post of the year.

lol Rob, fucking epic.

As an aside did you know that in UK poker rooms check-raising was against house policy pretty much everywhere, and it is only recently (with ten years I believe) hopefully someone "old school" will come ITT and confirm this.

Interesting stuff though

I am not that old school (started 2002)......however.....  Certainly cant remember no check raising in UK poker rooms.  No check raising was around a lot of las vegas rooms in the old school limit games, perhaps thats what you mean?  I can certainly remember a rule in glasgow riverboat that you were not allowed to check the nuts on the river in 2002 and 2003 tho.

mmmmmmmmmm - maybe Im wrong, I was sure that was a thing tho, but I am prone to making up cool things in my sleep to entertain myself with then thinking they are real when i wake up. I will research and report back :)

I've selected a suitable "old schooler" to help clear this up. I hope he doesn't read this because he might be upset if he gets called old school

Not exactly head over heels about calling with a 9 but I guess the occasional spaz makes up for the times he has 9T
