Title: RSQ 36 Mcsnort edition
Post by: McSnort on December 15, 2010, 05:55:19 PM
The Rules

There are 10 questions.

PM me your answers by 23:59 Tuesday 21 December.  The subject line should be SNORT, and please give each answer on a SEPARATE line with corresponding question number.

The reveal will take place at 20:30 Wednesday 22 December.

Your score for each question is number of people who give the same correct answer. So you want to go for answers that you think will be less commonly given. Levelling commonly happens. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep, with the corresponding sheep score.  If you score the only ACE in any round, you will receive MINUS 1 points for that round.  So a solitary ace for a round scores better than a pass.

You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers, and you're not allowed to ask others for help with your answers.  Those who do will be spotted by the other contestants and no doubt pointed out.  Punishment will be dealt to those deemed cheating.  I will be the judge, but a jury of your peers might be drafted in to decide guilt or innocence.

If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive sheep score + 5 points

You MUST pass on one, and only one, question and score a 0 for that question.

Any questions, post in this thread. If it's a stupid question, expect a stupid answer.

Spelling schmelling.

Objections are allowed, but a source must be provided with the INITIAL objection, otherwise subsequent evidence will most probably be deemed inadmissible and your case will be thrown out.

If a previous winner is victorious they will nominate the next QM - and this will be a virgin QM.

Please read the rules, and re-read them.  Ignorance of the rules will not be an acceptable excuse for farcical objections or questions, and the judge (and jury if necessary) will be called upon to determine guilt and the punishment.

Lowest score after the 10 rounds will win.  In the case of a tie, an elephant question will be asked with first correct answer deciding the winner

I still don't understand the tiebreak rules. can you either clarify them or preferably change to something more sensible. is it most posts ever, on this thread, during the reveal, something else?

Does it say on the thread?  No.

Can the total number of posts be easily seen?  Yes.

That's why I put that in.  Then obviously, if there's a tie the first one out of those tied to post will win - as they will have one more post than the other.

Simple really.

Some of the questions are excellent.

However, some I have no clue about and as I'm not sharplea, and I can only pass on one, I'm out.

Meh, there's three I can't answer - so not really much point bothering to answer the others.

The last question's a beauty though - do like that one.

Enjoyed answering the quiz

Had to pass Q6 though.

I do officially put Q6 in my top three worst Questions on an RSQ ever. It's unguessable!

Title: Re: RSQ 36 Mcsnort edition
Post by: gatso on December 16, 2010, 12:50:46 PM
knowing I'd have to pass anyway I googled it and have heard of a grand total of 1 of the possible answers.

this is the only reason it's not the worst question ever, it's one more answer than I'd have heard of for sharples' thrash metal band or whatever they were

The WSOP question is completely fair for a quiz on a poker forum. No complaints from me about that.

lolz at people that play poker, are interested in poker & don't know one of the November 9.

It's harder to avoid knowing any of them than it is to know any of them.

A well known pro made the final. I'd expect members of a poker forum to at least know who he is...

Really? I avoided the result so I could watch the final without knowing the result.  Since then forgot all about it and not really that fussed about it.

Knowing one of the final table is hardly a big commendation towards the question. The idea is for questions that most people will be able to give more than one answer. That's the point of the RSQ. Isn't it?

I knew the names of 1st, 2nd, and the well known pro. Not saying which one I used :). I subscribe to Poker Player (cause it costs about 3p/year), and read the write up. I can understand why people wouldn't know though - just because we're players, doesn't mean we follow the loldonkaments. Doesn't make it a bad question.

Now q6. That's a baaaaad question. If it was "Name an supermodel from either the 80s or 90s", I'd be fine :)

sigh.  there was a question about this in a proper quiz i took part in a while ago.  I very proudly said I knew the answer and it was elephant polo.  when they read out the answers i did a little dance, obv, as no one else had got it right.  turned out we hadn't either - the rest of my team presumed i was pissed and talking nonsense (as if!?!), and put 'curling' instead without telling me :(

Similar thing happened to me, I can't remember exactly what the question was but I knew the answer was elephant polo and I did a massive dance before giving my teammate with a pen the answer.

Your dance must not have been good enough perhaps? My team went with the elephant polo and we got the point.

Also I know its late but the drugs question asks for a slang name for Cocaine - Gear is a slang name for Coke, yes it is used for other things as well, but is still relevent for Cocaine.

If you phone big dave and ask for Gear you get Cocaine not a go in the lucky dip :)

I obv missed the word "specific" in the question, thought it was just a "slang word for"  . . . . . .  and if I rangmy weed dealer and asked for Gear he would say - "sorry I don't sell that shit".

Well I just googled top 12 religions from the cinema and the first hit - godweb.org had Shintoism in it

Number of adherents:
Estimates of the number of adherents are hopelessly unreliable. Some sources give numbers in the range of 2.8 to 3.2 million. One states that 40% of Japanese adults follow Shinto; that would account for about 50 million adherents. Others state that about 86% of Japanese adults follow a combination of Shinto and Buddhism; that would put the number of followers of Shinto at 107 million.

One source estimates 1000 followers of Shinto in North America. The Canadian Census (1991) recorded only 445 in Canada.

Essentially all followers of Shinto are Japanese. It is difficult for a foreigner to embrace Shintoism. Unlike most other religions, there is no book to help a person learn about the religion. It is transmitted from generation to generation by experiencing the rituals together as a group.

betting on something that's subject to the bizarre whims of the qm would be madness. mostly we're just here to wind up the qm or tighty

all that matters is that after your good work on the last question tighty can't win

cheers snorty, abs terrible qm just like most who've gone before. only saved by having an elephant question (though obv shouldn't have been a tiebreak if you'd marked the questions properly)

maybe moonandback will mark according to whether answers are correct or not. I won't hold my breath though
