I find that mine is more than adequate for storing a pint of milk and a block of cheese. I love it.
Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: rex008 on December 17, 2010, 08:59:30 AM Ordering one this morning, coincidentally. We had one at our old house. The fridge we inherited at the new place died last week, and the wife now claims she can't live another moment without an automatic crushed ice maker :).
http://www.appliancecity.co.uk/samsung/fridges-and-freezers/rsg5durs/product-12301/ This one's pretty impressive. About 100l more internal space than most, despite being standard size externally. Suspect it's got thinner insulation, still A rated, but uses about 100kWh/yr more than the best current ones, but that's only about a tenner/yr, so I can live with it. Remember you'll pay 2.5% more VAT from 4th Jan. Would add £20 to that one. Not the biggest deal in the world, but while I can live with paying energy companies for what I use, paying the taxman more for single-handedly stimulating the Korean economy annoys me. Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Biddy 62 on December 17, 2010, 09:02:19 AM Amazing, awesome, love all for a kitchen appliance. I'm having one.
Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Biddy 62 on December 17, 2010, 09:06:51 AM mmm looks nice. Was wondering about power consumtion. Would imagine it to be more economical than having a seperate fridge and freezer.
Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: TheChipPrince on December 17, 2010, 09:19:55 AM Would love one, unfortunately it would take up half my kitchen
Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Laxie on December 17, 2010, 09:24:46 AM Would love one, unfortunately it would take up half my kitchen We're in the same boat at my house. Sigh. Freezer portion of our old one went busto and repair was half the cost of new so went for this in the end http://www.appliancecity.co.uk/lg/fridges-and-freezers/gb5133avbw/product-11109/ Not the same, I know...but for people with smaller kitchens we can kinda pretend anyway. Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Acidmouse on December 17, 2010, 09:37:25 AM Love our American fridge, although it was a pain to get someone to pipe in the water and connect it. Its got all our xmass good in at the moments and still lots of space :)

That's the one I've got. You'll love it. It looks great inside when it lights up cus it's all LED lighting. No idea what it's like for making food go cold but it looks lovely. Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: AndrewT on December 17, 2010, 01:16:17 PM Does 'American fridge freezer' just mean 'Big fridge freezer' or is there some nuance I'm missing.
Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: rex008 on December 17, 2010, 01:43:16 PM Does 'American fridge freezer' just mean 'Big fridge freezer' or is there some nuance I'm missing. It's the general use term for a side-by-side fridge freezer, as opposed to top/bottom. Big kitchens, more space, wider appliances. I doubt they call them American Fridge Freezers over there though. Plus they've generally got a dispenser thingming on the freezer door wot gives you water and ice cubes and that. Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Biddy 62 on December 18, 2010, 10:18:01 AM cos dem americans luv water and ice.
Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Nakor on December 18, 2010, 12:13:19 PM my mrs wants a smeg one. are they any good? In general not the capicity of the newer variants like in OP, but are quality bits of kit. I have the stainless double and its a bitch to keep clean but aside from that no complaints at all. Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: boldie on December 19, 2010, 10:39:46 AM my mrs wants a smeg one. are they any good? You should get one just so you can say you've got smeg in the kitchen Title: Re: American fridge freezers Post by: Splash on December 19, 2010, 10:23:48 PM Go for an American make as opposed to standard UK make wannabe. The bits and bobs inside on the UK wannabes tend to be same as their standard fridges and can struggle. US makes have been churned this size out for years.
Can highly recommend Maytag/Admiral.. follow up service is excellent also. |
