Title: blonde HU Championship Post by: technolog on December 16, 2010, 06:24:38 PM EDIT: Things have progressed a bit. A private one-off, multi-player, heads-up tourney has been created on Stars for Tuesday 21st December at 20:00 GMT - see here (http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=51025.msg1277931#msg1277931). If it's popular we'll probs have another one a week later. Still hoping to get a group/knockout heads-up comp (as discussed below in OP) sorted for playing over the Christmas period.
I'm missing my December blonde league :( Would there be any interest in a heads-up comp? I'm a bit rubbish heads-up so would welcome the practise. I was thinking a Champions League type format; a group stage of 4/5 players in each group, where everyone plays each other once. Then the top 2 go through to a knockout stage. Be nice to get at least 16 playing to give 4 groups of 4, leading to ΒΌ finals, semis & final. I was thinking best of 3 games wins for the group games, then best of 5 for the knockout round and increasing by 2 for every further round. Where would be the best place to play? Do any sites allow private heads-up tournies? We can play heads-up STTs but there's the chance someone could jump in before your opponent and you end up playing a random. If all else fails, heads-up cash without re-loading. Post on here if you're interested. EDIT: It looks like we've got enough to make it worthwhile. Looks like Stars is favourite at the moment to be the site. I'll give it until Saturday for a few more to declare an interest then we'll get it sorted. With the Christmas hols coming it'd be an ideal opportunity to get it done & dusted before the Jan blonde league starts. As players of all levels will probably be playing I'd suggest either we all state a maximum buy-in we're willing to play and the buy-in for each match will be the lower of the two players' stated maximums. Or we just allow each pairing to decide prior to each game. I'd chance $10 per game :) Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: BAM on December 16, 2010, 08:08:52 PM Would be interested if you could get it going. +1 What he said. Ironside used hs Points to set up a blonde one years ago, a lot of fun. The Duke's just had a play on Stars and, as you say, it's suited to a multi-player, heads up tourney. Trying to use it for the format I was hoping for would be a logistical nightmare! How about we have one of these multi-player Stars tourneys one night between Christmas & New Year? I think the only realistic, practical option for the format I propose is heads-up cash tables. I'd like to do both as separate entities - perhaps have the winner of each meet in a Grand Final? Thoughts appreciated... Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: suzanne on December 16, 2010, 10:26:26 PM I think you are making it more difficult for yourself than it has to be?

1) Set an entry fee for the tournament. Say $25 or something so it is affordable. Have everyone send the money to someone to keep hold of the cash. 2) Standard knockout format. Set some brackets up and draw the players. 3) For each round give the players a week to complete their games. The two players can then take it upon themselves to organize their game. They can agree a time and use the stars software to setup their tournament and then announce the time in the thread. If neither player has the ability to do this then a designated person will set the game up for them and give them the passwords. The two players can also agree the buyin for the game. I dunno what the minimum is but have that as the base value but the players can play for higher stakes if they wish. 4) Go go go The advantage of doing it this way is all the games will be played at different times with the times announced on the forum. Players can play at times convenient to them. And with the times being announced people from the forum can login and watch. Also, due to the buyin of the game being different than the buyin of the tournament players can play for whatever stakes they like without affecting the prize structure of the tournament. Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: suzanne on December 17, 2010, 02:20:31 AM Cf seems to know what he is talking about so i would pass the buck Jack.
PS $25 is a bit rich for me based on the fact that i am crap...willing to give $10 away tho. Side bets are always good ;) Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: SuuPRlim on December 17, 2010, 04:17:37 AM I like the idea. Im in
CF talking sense, set up a new thread IMO, set a deadline for entrants to confirm, and people snap ship the money then they locked in. Select a suitablke escrow for the money (flushy seems like an optimal person) and then go Im happy to have some overal last longers with anyone to juice the game up :) Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: stato_1 on December 17, 2010, 04:53:24 AM sign me up

Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: technolog on December 17, 2010, 05:12:50 PM why do cash games keep getting mentioned? surely stars private HU tournies can run with 2 players? Just logistics and covenience really. Not everyone has the ability to create them (I don't) and if I remember my conversation with the Duke correctly, you have to set them up an hour in advance. Whereas you can just sit-out at a cash table and wait for the other person to find you. At the moment, I'm thinking have a couple of the PokerStars multi-player heads-up tournies; one this Tuesday (to keep Suzanne off me back :)) and one on the 28th. Then for those that want to play it, set up the original group/knockout competition. Everyone pays $10 entry to be paid 70:30 to winner & runner-up. I'll just sort out who plays who then it's up to each particular pairing where they play, whether it's a tournies or cash table, how many games, what buy-in with the loser to post the outcome. If player transfers are itemised clearly on Poker Stars so it's easy to know who's paid, I'm happy to act as a 'banker' for the entry fees. If someone else wants to do it that's fine too. If it ever gets off the ground ;D and it looks like having a reasonable number of participants, I'll get a trophy and we can make it an annual Christmas event :dontask: Title: Re: blonde HU Championship Post by: 34sooted5betshove on December 17, 2010, 05:20:25 PM I'd like to play in this too
