Title: FAO the camel or any other betting guru
Post by: Ironside on December 29, 2010, 03:50:22 AM
southampton have started gelling and now romping up the table into the playoff zone they are currently about 5-2 to win the league this season is there any value in this bet?

they are clearly the best side in the division but had a slow start and change of management but are on fire now

just wondering if it was a bet and if it was is it worth making it EW at that price

thanks in advance for all the bus driver comments i would love to be able to drive a bus

Looks short enough for me. They probably are the best team but would say they are a long way from being "on fire" at the moment. Doesn't seem to be any decent run of form other than they won yesterday.
Brighton and Charlton could both have a nice lead on them after tonight and if we (Wednesday) spend some Milan Mandaric money in January we could become contenders.

3/1 is available in places and that isn't too bad if you think they have the best of what is at the moment at least a 4 horse race.

TheChipPrince is probably the man to ask.

Iron, as mentioned they are hardly on fire about the 8th best side over the last 6 games, and not a great deal better over a bigger sample size.

Also expect the squad to get deciimated in January, with Pardew at Newcastle and some of the younger talent looking very good I would expect to see Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lallana and maybe a few others like Lambert move on.  Some will see this as a chance to move up a division or 2 - I doubt Lambert will go to Newcastle though ;)

No value at all @5/2. A great example of why betting on your own team is a bad idea, far too easy to overrate them. Saints are at best an ok league 1 team, they may improve 2nd half of the season but there's no real evidence to suggest they will.

I agree, their prospects are in the price.

Certainly one of the top 5-6 teams and improving, but not "clearly the best side in the division"

I really haven't been following football this season but thought we were in bottom 4/5 after a poor start thought we must of been on fire to get into contention at half way, but they are the best team in league and will soon be fighting for ecl spots

there are 8 points between the relegation spots and the playoff spots. it doesn't take much of a run for a team at the bottom to get into contention in a league that's this tight

If you had seen any of Brighton's matches I doubt you would say Southampton were clearly the best team in the division. They marmalised Charlton and Peterbrough and should have beaten Huddersfied and Southampton.

I think Saints have the best strike force in the divsion (although Lambert has been totally off form for the last couple of months)

However I have a sneaky feeling Brighton might well spend some money in the window to improve their striking options!

I am pretty confident Brighton will win this division and are pretty good value at current prices.

very much this. echoes my opinion on brighton from a little while ago here http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=48737.msg1249119#msg1249119

also bear in mind that the charlton takeover is due to be completed on friday so 2 of the top 4 (could be the top 2 in 2 hours time) are likely to be spending in january

And Lallana could be out for 6 weeks...last time that happened Saints didn't score for five games on the spin ;)

Already been one game...and soton played 4 more home games than away games..
