Title: staking syndicate idea
Post by: pleno1 on December 30, 2010, 05:04:15 AM
just had an idea, probably got lots of flaws, if so please say as its an idea not a proposal just yet.

Was thinking about doing a syndicate where x amount of members put y amount of money into a stars/tilt/bank account. This will be a staking bankroll.

When threads come up on blonde the group would decide if/how much they would want to invest.

would be strict rules like

- dont use more than x % for one stake
- only stake players with x estimated roi in specific game

anybody could get involved at any time and withdraw from the fund at any time. for a single stake to happen over 50% of the syndicate would have to say 'i agree'. I would run this if people wanted (ship the monies or whatever)

anyone could get involved but id recommend minimum 100$ initial investment with no maximum.

Example.

We have a £6k bankroll.

We by 20% of Monda in MonteCarlo for £120. We would receive back £2750, nearly 50% return on our initial bankroll. We would be investing in +ev investments and hopefully winning small-medium amounts on a regular basis with a couple of big amounts. In such occasion people would be able to withdraw some money and sometimes leave it for the BR to grow to buy bigger £ pieces.

Thoughts?

just to note,, staking would be used in live tournaments too.

sounds like a large amount of work organising/running + most investors probs prefer having their own choice on who to invest + how much

I like investing, I'm degenerate and love a sweat. But there are three usual cases.

1) I invest $50, the guy doesn't win, fair enough lose.

2) I invest $50 he wins his 10% roi. I have $60. I go on a spin up and inevitably lose it.

3) He binks big.

That way I'd pretty much not care about 1/2. This way it would gradually increase and I'd get sweats sometimes win alot of money but regularly make quite alot of money.

We would also message people on blonde offering stakes. For example, if Paul Ho went broke offer to stake him 200 $3.30 90mans that he crushes at. I could do that now but winning a couple hundo, meh. BUt being together in a community and adding to a roll would be ALOT more rewarding for me personally.

Although I would obviously love Camel/Dubai to get involved, it is more directed towards grinders such as myself who play medium to small stakes and can't always afford to stakes $100-$200 every stake but would love to get involved to get involved for like $30-$50 when the min buy is like $100+

For example, Little Dave put up a thread for the omaha UKCOOP 1r1a, I would LOVED to get a piece as he is the nuts at omaha, but the min piece was just too much for a one off buy in. If there was this syndicate we could have taken 5-10% and I would have had a really good sweat watching him play and if he won alot BRILLIANT, if not meh, it was a +ev investment and didn't hurt the bank too much as it was a small % of the BR that I was using.

Lol, you are a com guy.

I think you are underestimating what a truly massive headache this will be if it gets off the ground. Loads and loads of admin, a million and one arguements, a few grims etc.

Would be abs gold for the spectator, so best of luck.

I'm in for a something small if you get it going.

Would you allow investors to come in after the initial set up?
You would need to start a seperate place for discussions etc

Yeah people would be able to invest late/top up.

Also everyone would need skype and discussions would be ongoing on a skype chat group.

Totally superfluous tho. You could have bought in any of those 'sick ships' yourself right?

Yeah but as stated buying pieces atm for me is almost like burning money.

1) they dont ship anything

2) they ship a small min cash and my $100 one off investment is doubled and i lose it trying to spin up

The only time it is really worthwhile is if

3) they bink big i.e keys at aussie millions, monda at monte carlo etc

If there was one bank which we used almost like a shares account it would work well with +ev investments on a regualar basis and small additions to the bankroll.

I don't really understand your point here.  If it is like burning money for you as an individual then why wouldn't it be the same as part of a syndicate?  If it is a case of volume then maybe just reduce the size of your stakes.  If you want to take staking seriously then you should be approaching it from a BRM perspective the same as your own poker play ie. set aside a bank and never exceed, say, 1% of your bank for any individual stake.
