Title: RSQ 38, May the farce be with you
Post by: JK on December 31, 2010, 05:46:14 PM
REVERSE SHEEP QUIZ #38, The Nit chronicles

The Rules

There are 10 questions.

PM me your answers by 11:59pm on Monday the 3rd of January.  Please give each answer on a SEPARATE line with corresponding question number.

The reveal will take place at 7pm on Tuesday the 4th of January

Your score for each question is number of people who give the same correct answer. So you want to go for answers that you think will be less commonly given. Levelling commonly happens. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep, with the corresponding sheep score.  If you score the only ACE in any round, you will receive MINUS 1 points for that round.  So a solitary ace for a round scores better than a pass.

You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers, and you're not allowed to ask others for help with your answers.  Those who do will be spotted by the other contestants and no doubt pointed out.  Punishment will be dealt to those deemed cheating.  I will be the judge, but a jury of your peers might be drafted in to decide guilt or innocence.

If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive sheep score + 5 points

You MUST pass on one, and only one, question and score a 0 for that question.

Any questions, post in this thread. If it's a stupid question, expect a stupid answer.

Spelling schmelling. Though if its unreadable, you will be punished.

Objections are allowed, but a source must be provided with the INITIAL objection, otherwise subsequent evidence will most probably be deemed inadmissible and your case will be thrown out.

If a previous winner is victorious they may if they so choose nominate the next QM - and this will be a virgin QM.

Please read the rules, and re-read them.  Ignorance of the rules will not be an acceptable excuse for farcical objections or questions, and the judge (and jury if necessary) will be called upon to determine guilt and the punishment.

Lowest score after the 10 rounds will win. In the event of a tie, some type of farce will take place, specifications of which Ill decide at a later date.

I'll preempt it...

Objection to "prior incantato"

I originally thought it was "priori incantatum" but that is the name of the brother wand effect. It does exist as "priori incantato" as a spell.

Then I noticed the typo.

No such spell as "prior incantato" so fail anyone who says it.

Prior IncantatoSee also: Magic in Harry Potter#Priori Incantatem
Pronunciation: /ˈpraɪ.ɔr ˌɪŋkænˈtɑːtoʊ/ PRYE-or ING-kan-TAH-toh
Description: Causes the echo (a shadow or image) of the last spell cast by a wand to emanate from it.
Seen/mentioned: Used by Amos Diggory in Goblet of Fire to discover the last spell cast by Harry's wand after it was found in the hands of Winky, a house-elf. Mentioned in Deathly Hallows as a means of discovering that Harry had been casting spells with Hermione's wand (implying that his own was broken).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter#Prior_Incantato.Suggested etymology: Latin prior meaning "former" and Latin incanto meaning "to enchant".[12]

The actual level here was the fact that this spell, doesnt infact, have a correct answer to it ;).

Reasons for either not being an actual county? Im pretty hazy on the difference between ceremonial counties and normal counties, so if you can convice me Ill let it go ;)

I am wrong on Bristol

Bristol is unusual in having been a city with county status since medieval times. The county was expanded to include suburbs such as Clifton in 1835, and it was named a county borough in 1889, when the term was first introduced.[19]  However, on 1 April 1974, it became a local government district of the short-lived county of Avon.[50]  On 1 April 1996, it regained its independence and county status, when the county of Avon was abolished and Bristol became a Unitary Authority.[51]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_counties_by_population

Both listed as Counties in Wikipedia list. West Midlands is listed as a Metropolitan County, Bristol is classed as Unitary.

Reasons for either not being an actual county? Im pretty hazy on the difference between ceremonial counties and normal counties, so if you can convice me Ill let it go ;)

Where I work I'm responsible for the West Midlands REGION. Comprise Staffs/WArwickshire/Worcestershire/Shropshire/Stoke/ B'ham WAlsall etc.

West Mids Metro Council was abloished in 1985

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Midlands_(county)

As far as I can read, the metropolitan county continues to exist in law and as a geographic frame of reference.

Claire, awesome grass, I must have been in auto mode when I marked that one! Changing scores to show this...

After a lengthy discussion with my parents, ringing my brother in law who works for a local county council and much reading of Wikipedia, Im going to let Redsimons objection go through.

Geographic frame of reference as it may be, thats not enough for it to exist as an actual county, and therefore Im gonna fail it.

West Midlands now becomes a fail, and is a 7 point answer.
