Title: beckham Post by: gatso on January 02, 2011, 03:15:36 PM looks like his loan to spurs will go through in time for the cup game against charton next sunday. well pleased, wasn't particularly looking forward to the trip to whl but this should make it more interesting
Title: Re: beckham Post by: sweet potata! on January 02, 2011, 06:50:42 PM I honestly can't see why Spurs want to sign him or why he wants to go there, not exactly going to be getting much of a game is he?
Supposedly he willl be their highest paid player too surely that wont go down too well with the dressing room, never mind the big media circus that follows becks around that will just cause more distactions than anything when they're going along very nicely as it is. Title: Re: beckham Post by: TightEnd on January 02, 2011, 06:53:47 PM £1.5m for 6 weeks I gather.
They'll sell 25,000 beckham Spurs shirts so that's a wash Think it will be good, great mentor for Lennon and others, good team man and the team is going well so no real pressure on him Title: Re: beckham Post by: gatso on January 02, 2011, 06:59:23 PM Supposedly he willl be their highest paid player too surely that wont go down too well with the dressing room can't see anyone having a problem with that at all. fair enough if they were bringing in some random as the highest paid but there's not one player on the spurs staff who'd expect to earn more than david mfkn beckham Title: Re: beckham Post by: MANTIS01 on January 02, 2011, 07:00:05 PM Although Becks is a world icon he's also a very honest and geuine footballer. Everyone at Milan was amazed at how he came in and worked his socks off in training. Why do Spurs want him? He's gonna come in and train like a bastard at the age of 35 around kids who are gonna think wow that's how I get to the top. He will teach Bale and Lennon how to cross a ball. His influence will be immense. He can play in the CL. He will sell loads of merchandise. Harry's no fool. Can't wait for this to happen. And Becks wants to come because he's passionate about playing for England, and you've gotta love that.

Title: Re: beckham Post by: sweet potata! on January 03, 2011, 02:51:28 PM Maybe if i was English I would be drooling over Beckham like everyone else seems to be, still I can't see why Spurs want to sign a hasbeen who imo was not even that good when he was at his peak, it seems now that hes old and shows so much patriotism and he will never quit England that people are romanticising about him. He has no pace (never had) but yes he can whip in a brilliant cross, hes never getting a start ahead of Lennon, Spurs are just signing a showpony thats all and as i said already all the attention will be focussed on Becks sitting on the bench and not on the team that is doing brilliantly, I'll stick to my guns Bizarre signing IMO.
Flame away. Title: Re: beckham Post by: gatso on January 03, 2011, 03:07:25 PM As an aside did he not state before that he would not sign for any prem team except ManU yep, but people say all sorts obviously. I think spurs are one of the few other teams he would go to as they're close to his family, this morning's newcastle rumours seem laughable Title: Re: beckham Post by: Josedinho on January 03, 2011, 04:01:58 PM SP don't you think Spurs have struggled alot after Champions League games this season? If Lennon plays midweek against AC Milan (maybe more) wouldn't you want a player like Beckham to play the weekend after rather than a knackered Lennon?
Title: Re: beckham Post by: sweet potata! on January 03, 2011, 04:36:20 PM SP don't you think Spurs have struggled alot after Champions League games this season? If Lennon plays midweek against AC Milan (maybe more) wouldn't you want a player like Beckham to play the weekend after rather than a knackered Lennon? Becks may aswel have retired when he joined the MLS, fair enough he did ok on loan at Milan but I think we all know that Serie A is walking pace compared to the Prem, He will struggle to make an impact IMO. And why is it just Lennon that will be knackered? Why not sign 11 players to cover all those playing in the champs league? Time will tell as to how it goes I'm obv in the minority but as i said I aint English so the Becks love in isnt for me. He obv dosent need the cash but he craves the limelight so thats prob why he would go to Spurs and play a bit part role as opposed to going somewhere where he will deffo get a game and can then in turn show that he still has it to play for England. Title: Re: beckham Post by: Josedinho on January 03, 2011, 04:52:35 PM I don't have a Becks love in. I wanted him to go to the World Cup but out of an England shirt it doesn't matter to me what he does.
You can't sign 11 players because you can only have a squad of 25. Some of the players e.g Bentley haven't done a job when needed this season so bringing Beckham in is an option that is commercially viable. Bentley might also be sold which may means they need a reserve RM. They have Blackpool away and West Ham at home the games after the Milan games. I think he can trouble the left back at either teams as well as being a threat from set pieces if the other spurs players aren't performing. All while covrering any injuries that Lennon may have, just like Kranjcar does for Bale or Palacios does for Huddlestone etc I don't think a player that craves the limelight signs for LA Galaxy when he had offers from the biggest leagues in Europe but we'll probably agree to disagree on some points. Flame away. I think you're only looking at the impact Becks the player is gonna have on the field of play and I don't think that is Redknapp's major consideration for a 3 month spell. Although in playing terms I do think Harry sees his pinpoint delivery as pretty useful when Crouch is on the pitch. He could bring the pair on with 20 mins to go and that could be a pretty dynamic partnership to turn a game. I don't think Lennon delivers the kind of service Crouch thrives on. It's more the mentor factor though. Who have Spurs got in this mould? Last time I looked Ledley King was falling out a taxi pissed up with his busted knees. Clean living Becks could have a very positive influence on the fancy dan party culture some of the younger lads have at Spurs. They have an outside shot at the league. How many multiple league champions do they have at Spurs? Beckham knows the way to the winning post and knows how to look after his body. Maldini played for Milan till the age of 40 so I don't think Becks is past it just yet. Agree it's all about opinions and have no problem with you disagreeing. We'll probably find out one way or another and I'll be happy to admit I was wrong if it doesn't work out. I was adament that Nasri was a waste of money before this season and am still adament that Rosicky is but loads will disagree and would have disagreed about Nasri before and I'm still reminded about it. Yep this thread should get a bump at some stage in the future, It will be interesting to see how it works out. As for Rosicky Nasri etc.. I'm sure Nem can sympathise with ya he will forever be tagged with "Torres is the Spanish Andy Johnson!" Title: Re: beckham Post by: Horneris on January 03, 2011, 10:09:59 PM Beckham has always been overrated but he is a good guy, don't really see how Spurs could use him from a footballing perspective unless Lennon is injured again?

Title: Re: beckham Post by: boldie on January 09, 2011, 12:03:04 PM I don't get the "sell loads of merchandise" argument on this one. Why would he sell loads of merchandise if he is only coming over for 2 months? A few T-shirts maybe but not a ridic amount, especially as he will always be associated with another English club and never be a proper Spurs player.

Although think Bale is a pretty good crosser already .... see him put some awesome crosses in. Lennon great to final Ball and if he can learn that he could be super scary.. Beckhams crosses from the right could add to Spurs weapons and it suits him as beck Mansion literally up the road...overall a reasonable fit for both Title: Re: beckham Post by: boldie on January 11, 2011, 04:22:18 PM Lennon needs to add consistancy to his game IMO. sometimes he's immense and other times he's bloody awful.

Title: Re: beckham Post by: MANTIS01 on January 11, 2011, 07:22:16 PM Yeah, Beckham is God. The guy is prepared to leave his toasty LA life and fly into the English winter to train his ass off for half the pay. What for? Costs him money, he'll work harder, potential humiliation if he's off the pace, unpopularity in America, no guarantee of a game. Becks just wants them record caps so he can fulfill his rightful place as Sir David in the future. The whole nation should salute him as a national hero. Maradonna is always taking drugs, he cheated in both world cups, was banned from the game, and constantly breaks the law. He often balloons into a ghastly looking swiss ball of a man and according to various ex-girlfriends he has a terribly small penis. Yet he is Lord Jesus Christ himself in Argentina. By contrast Beckham is a beautiful wholesome man who has large balls made out of gold.
