Title: Price of flowers
Post by: outragous76 on January 07, 2011, 05:58:06 PM
I just popped into my local florist to buy flowers for my lovely wife for our first wedding anniversary

Guess how much I was quoted for a dozen roses? 6 red and 6 White incase that matters

(I didn't want roses btw, he just suggested as there were no bouquets made up)

It's paper for 1st anniversary not flowers. Get a nice A4 lined pad with margins.

I was flabbergasted at £48!

I mean it's not like valentines or anything!

Fortunately Shelley wouldn't want me to pay that for flowers so the florist can keep trying! They weren't even super amazing roses or anything! Just average! £4 Per flower I think not!

I also have the upper hand! Shelley got her dates wrong and thought it was the 9th whereas it's actually the 8th (confusion stemming from both of us only really remembering the date we flew out)! It is in the bank! Wiiiiiiii

Honestly mate, as much as she likes me to buy flowers she wouldn't want me to spend £50 on them. She would sooner I spend the £50 on something that isn't perishable!

I'm never tight, I just think somethings arent worth the money.

I don't care if she says she doesn't want you to spend £48 on them. She's lying.

I'd guess she doesn't want you playing poker all the time and taking trips to Vegas but you do that.

You love her. Buy the fucking flowers.

Find a cheaper shop then tell her you paid £48 to show her yr love,

she'll be happy, you'll be better off. happy days all round  ;D

I'd probably not be too happy if someone spent £48 on flowers for me tbf.  However, I wouldn't expect to know or be told how much they cost, so it wouldn't be a concern!

reminds me actually of the first valentine's day after I met my ex hubby.  Lovely dozen roses delivered to the office.  I phoned him to thank him.  "60 fecking quid they were - don't expect this every year".

I'm with Claire.  Love flowers but sure as shit don't want to know how much was spent on them.

If she would prefer lots of other things before flowers, why are you buying her flowers?

lol £48 is ridic unless they are special fecking roses. Buy fair trade roses from Morrisons or Asda and you'll pay £16 for the lot (and they last longer)

I didn't know this either but apparently the mix of red and white flowers of the same type in a single vase means death (according to some stupid superstition I found out about when MrsB's gran was in hospital....pretty colours but you'll die when you get them)

Bought a dozen home and she asked if she had to spend all weekend on her back with her legs in the air.

I told her she could if she wanted, but I assumed she would have used the vase.

Nah, don't buy the flowers. Flowers are great as a spontaneous romantic gift. But once you go home empty handed from the florist and discuss the unrealistic price of a bunch with your partner I kinda feel the magic is lost. Then if you come home the next day with some bargain roses from Asda your mrs will be like WTF are these? We've been married for one year and you're already bringing me this shit?
