Yes. As much, but no more than necessary to get something that will do the job without going to the hassle of buying something second-hand unless it's from someone I know.

I have one of those - it's been faultless since Day One. Runs really smooth, opens up as fast as anything, can't fault it.

I had an ACER. It was fine for about 6 months, until the fan started making a horrible noise.

It took 6 weeks (!) for the repair to be completed and when it came back it was considerably slower.

I may just have got a bum deal, but it has put me off ACER's for life.

I use one every day for work, got a very similar one for the girlfriend and she uses it every day for work too.  Then I got a small one for £300 (that's now £600 for some reason) and that's excellent too.

Had a Dell at my last place, and the screen went.  Good luck getting any sort of service from Dell's support.

I guess it's a case of YMMV - and any make we'll know someone who can anecdotally sing the praises or condemn a particular brand.
