Title: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: The Camel on January 18, 2011, 08:46:42 PM Sick of the cold weather, want to get away for 4 or 5 days during half term (middle of Feb).
Any ideas? Would like to tick most of these boxes: Quiet Warmish (Hot would be better, but warm will do) Sandy Beaches Not too far from airport (less than 30 mile drive would be ideal) No more than 3 hour flight from England Any ideas/tips appreciated. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: KarmaDope on January 18, 2011, 08:47:50 PM Bulgarian beach resorts maybe? Eastern Europe would be my first idea, depends on how long the flight is though.

Eastern Europe would be my first idea, depends on how long the flight is though. Bulgaria is abs freezing at this time of year. Think you are going to have head to somewhere on the Med, with those stipulations. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: The Camel on January 18, 2011, 08:54:50 PM What about the Canary Islands?
Anyone been there? Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: Claw75 on January 18, 2011, 08:57:11 PM What about the Canary Islands? Anyone been there? yep - fuerteventura good for lots of sand. tenerife less so. should be warmish too. bit more than 3 hour flight though. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: ItsMrAlex2u on January 18, 2011, 08:57:36 PM Canaries are your best bet. Avoid Tenerife or Gran canaria, go for Lanzarote or Fueteventura.
Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: Nakor on January 18, 2011, 08:58:07 PM Bit more then 3 hours but Gambia FTW
Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: TightEnd on January 18, 2011, 08:58:31 PM What about the Canary Islands? Anyone been there? Yes Tenerife and Gran Canaria and Lanzarote If you are taking Jake/family Tenerife is good. The island is split by Mount Teide (volcano extinct). On the one side is the party side of the Island. Gets a lot of sun and is very loud and lively. If however you want something a bit quieter and sedate the north side of the Island is picturesque, green and more temperate as the climate is formed by being in the shadow of Teide The trip to Mount Teide is spectacular too Recommended, more than Lanzaratoe and Gran Canaria which are much of a muchness Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: ChipRich on January 18, 2011, 09:22:52 PM What Tighty said^^. Been both sides of Tenerife, obviously liked the South side, but the North side is a bit cooler and more relaxing and enjoyed the trip to Tiede.
Theres the Lido, which is a place with 7 swimming pools, jsut for sunbathing around. Think theyre meant to represent each other the Canary Islands or something. Then theres 2 different kinds of Zoos i think, one for like Jungle animals, then another for Parrotts, Sea Lions, dolphins and penguins etc. Main town called Santa Cruz? i think was nice enough too! Should be warm enough at this time of year i expect too. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: MPOWER on January 18, 2011, 09:30:26 PM I'd go here Luabay Los Gigantes

Post by: AndrewT on January 18, 2011, 09:39:12 PM Found an airline that flies to the South of Tenerife, is there another airport in the North? There is an airport in the north, but that's just for flights from Spain or the other islands. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: The Camel on January 19, 2011, 12:01:26 AM It's a tough one.
Don't want a long flight as it's only going to be for 3 or 4 nights, but really want somewhere warm. This time last year was in Sydney, perfect weather. Sigh. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: StuartHopkin on January 19, 2011, 08:56:44 AM Benidorm ftw!! Never ever here! Worst place in the world Girgles! I got reasonable deals for 3 nights in Peurto Del Carmen this weekend and 4 nights in Corralejo in 2 weeks time. ;) Been to Gran Canaria before and thought it was terrible. There's always Malta 3.5 hour flight. I am thinking about working for the Maltese tourist board. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Serious question Pleno. What is there to do in Gibraltor? I've never even considered it as a holiday destination but I've heard reasonable reports. Is the night life good there? Are there plenty of young hotties about to look at in the bars and clubs? Is there a decent bar / club area where you just spend every night or do you have to know what you're doing to find the best places? I've always had the impression that it was a place for old people but admittedly I had the same impression of Malta before I went there and found out how insanely wrong I was!! Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? which one to go to? Any recommendations? Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? Post by: pleno1 on January 19, 2011, 01:59:27 PM Gibraltar obv! Serious question Pleno. I've always had the impression that it was a place for old people but admittedly I had the same impression of Malta before I went there and found out how insanely wrong I was!! I'd say it was a fantastic place to live and a decent place to visit. To live -Lowest crime rate in the world iirc. -Really nice weather, 25 degrees most days in winter. Obv next to the sea so a nice breeze too. -Nearly all acoomodation is realllly nice, like modern apartments, expensive though. This is why there is little crime, only people with decent jobs can really afford to live here -Prices on other things. Bottle of smirnoff vodka is £3.99, tabs, food etc is really cheap -Main place is ocean village, huge gala casino, nice apartment complex and then liek 4/5 restaurants, also has a nightclub in complex called Savannahs that is full of 17-21 year old girls gagging for it -Square called casemates, its a square with restaurants/bars in a rectangular shape where everyone sits outside in the summer and live acts in middle -Population is 30,000 so tinyyyyy, so really nice and peaceful, however 30 minutes away is Marbella so awesome nightlife if you want to go there, can get limo service direct from Gibraltar -Great beaches, go on for milessssssssssssss -Close to africa (like 20 miles) so good if you want to experience different culture - Gibraltar is 2nd in the world for % of winning poker players online according to PTR. There are lots of pros to come to live here as the standard of living is generally very good. Live however is a different story the live cash games are ridiculously soft and run 7 days a week -Because of the nice climate (not too hot, not cold at all) and nice scenary its easy to get out and go for a run. To visit -The "rock" is really famous and has 2000 monkeys living on it, we get thousands of people coming to see them and they jump on you, play with you etc, they are pretty fun -If you come here you will probably meet alot of scandanavian girls, who work as customer service for the gaming companies (many gaming companies, betfred, william hill, pokerstrategy etc have their offices here because of the low tax. The girls they hire are usually Eastern European/German or Scandanavian so lots of talent -Drinks are obviously ridiculously cheap so aswell as taking them away with you you can get absolutely mortal here for pennies - Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday? I wouldn't come here for a lads holiday definitely wouldnt go for a week or whatever, but if I went to Costa Del SOl or whatever I'd definitely come for the day. The company I work for have 1% of Gibraltars population so I know quite alot fo people around which probably means that I enjoy the social life more than average Freddy coming over. Whilst I say I wouldn't hugely recommend it for two 35 year olds trying to get into 21 year old girls knickers I wold without doubt recommend it for somewhere to live. Absolutely lovely place spoiled to shit by the annoying f**kers trying to pull you in to their shops. I know they are just trying to make a living but it was beyond anything I've ever known. Very hard sell and very intrusive. That's the only reason I would never go back because other than that it was a really good holiday. As Longines said, if you stay in your 5* hotel it's brilliant. Also it's more a couples place than a family place from what I saw. Definitely not a place for lads on the pull. Title: Re: Ideas for a Half Term Mini Holiday?
