They're doing the silly one frame shootout competition this weekend in Blackpool with the Top 64 players in the world playing a straight knockout competition with 10minute max frames including a shot clock on every decision.  Live on Sky as well i'm told.

Have done a few of the outsiders in the betting as it doesn't feel like anyone should be too big an underdog in the format and could get a sweat at a big price (1/4 odds 1,2,3,4):

Any reason you've chosen experience over youth?  Surely quick frames, shot clocks etc suit the yound'uns, Cope, Trump etc

TBF, even Robbo doesnt like the shot clock so maybe im talking b*llox

I was just looking for players at party prices in a 64 runner field where pretty much anyone can win.  Davis plays a bit of pool and I'm sure would love to pop up and win something that was aimed at the younger generation.

I really will bet on anything as proved by the fact i'm gonna punt on this- i like yr logic here jamie.

Betting pennies though as i have a pony limit for 'laugh' bets.

Done £2.50ewX5 on the following, feels obscene writing two pounds fifty, but i guess they r all party prices, and 1 in top 4 dbles the investment minimum.

Quite enjoying this format.

You have to hand it to Matchroom, they do come up with some interesting innovations.

They have really made the TV poker format their own, with innovations like the premier league, durrrr challenge and 48 hour cash game.
They turned darts from a pub game to a fully fledged arena sport.
They got more interest in boxing with the prizefighter shows.
And they revolutionised world heavyweight title fights by hosting the first ever bout where only one of the men was a boxer

This is actually pretty good, sick end for Drago.

have to admit that was a good watch.

Yeah I've actually quite enjoyed the few frames i've watched - it's just the stuff in between that's so horribly cringeworthy. The Drago one was superb stuff.

Drago , Robertson and Higgins match were all quality.

I do think that the format needs some work. Maybe a multi-frame match with a time limit and shot clock is better. The tactics are far too negative for a one frame match and I think Robertson had the right idea potting the ball on the lag to give the break away.

I do like the idea of lagging for break and ball in hand anywhere though. Much better than this foul and a miss rubbish that takes 2-3 minutes to resolve. :)

Been great fun watching this tonight.  It's a shame it wasn't promoted a bit better pre tournament really.

Hopefully they can use some of the exciting matches to drive some PR post-event as it has gotta be repeated.  I seem to remember the original plan making it a 128 man event with Top 64 and open qualifying for the rest of the field to make it the "FA Cup of snooker".  Will certainly be doing all I can to bag tickets next time around.

Have loved watching it. It's not too serious and not taken too seriously but decent money is on offer for the amount of work involved. Love the arena and hopefully it's a yearly thing. It's not the future of snooker or anything like that but it's a different and enjoyable tourny that should be added to the calendar each year.

Potting the ball on the lag is not the way to go. Winner of the lag chooses who breaks. Not breaking looks +ve at the moment so wining the lag is too.
