Title: 1/2 NLHE Live hand - Set mining in straddled pot Post by: keilan303 on January 28, 2011, 03:42:30 PM Our Hand 9s 9h
Pretty average table 1/2 live NLHE, 9 handed. Straddle is on and flop is seen 6 handed, I limped along early position with nines. Stack is about £400, only one player at table even remotely has me covered. Flop is 9c Kh Js Blinds and straddler check and I bet £18 into £24 pot. Pick up one caller (button) and everyone else folds. Turn is Ks I've played a few pots in my time with villain (pretty much a fish at this table) fairly weak passive/station. I check the turn and they bet £22 into £60 pot. They have about £150 behind. I just flat call. River is Kc I check pretty quick and they auto ship pretty quick. Have I butchered this hand, am I winning ever, or is this pretty standard? this guy is literally never folding any value hand, or bluffing, so get it in! (id have prolly lead fwiw but if you hink he bets Jx's then its a great spot to c/r cos you can play for his stack then) river. fyl you should fold id prolly end up calling to punish myself for playing too passive/trappy and runing so terribly, then be tilted to fuck when he tables JT Title: Re: 1/2 NLHE Live hand - Set mining in straddled pot Post by: cambridgealex on January 28, 2011, 04:20:48 PM Hate pretty much every street of this tbh. I'd raise pre. I like the flop bet. Checking the turn is fine if your going to check raise. If not, defo bet the turn. We're trying to get all the money in at some stage with this hand! River is obv a fold.

Like the turn check, but like a check raise. [ ] live players can fold a King. Set mining because most at table know I would be raising most pairs but limp complete junk...so it gets more in the pot...OOP against one or two who will get me off nines on any scary board so I dont mind limping... As has been said, you surely want to get as much as you can in on that board. Checking to raise makes sense, but I prefer leading out here that way if they raise you can get it all in. Sigh-fold the river as played. You don't get more in the pot though. Nobody is ever folding a king here or (probably) a jack and from the flop onwards you know that you weant to build a big pot in this hand. Checking doesn't build big pots and is just really horrible with sets generally unless it is on a really dry board. These are the hands where you want to win a big pot and you aren't going to get a big pot without takng the initiative. With six callers do you really think that nobody has any part of this?? In the live $1-2 games I play regularly slowplaying hands like this is the biggest mistake I see otherwise good players making. Hands like this they end up winning $40 pots and then losing the $400 pots by calling off stacks with top pair top kicker type crap.
