Title: Breaking betting story? Post by: TightEnd on February 07, 2011, 01:03:39 AM Gabriele Marcotti is reporting jounalists on French TV reporting inquiries into betting patterns on Arsenal-Newcastle yesterday, citing German justice and Interpol sources
A Far Eastern syndicate was apparently on goal overs, and cleaned up for those who want to translate http://tele.premiere.fr/Zapster/Un-incroyable-match-de-foot-plonge-au-coeur-d-une-enquete-judiciaire http://twitter.com/#!/Marcotti Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Post by: redarmi on February 07, 2011, 01:12:02 AM You don't need to score eight goals to win an overs bet. Would be pretty amazed if this was bent.

It's possible that the "rigged" bit was letting them have one goal and then they scored more "fair" goals after that. Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Shocked if it was bent, no unusual movements as far as I could see. Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Post by: Graham C on February 07, 2011, 01:24:38 AM With players earning £40k+ p/w and clubs that turn over millions each week, you think there'd be enough money to sort out a scam like this?
I'd have though £5m on over 7.5 goals would raise a few eyebrows :D Title: Re: Breaking betting story? I'd have though £5m on over 7.5 goals would raise a few eyebrows :D The ref is the only target. Or threats of violence. Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Post by: redarmi on February 07, 2011, 02:04:13 AM In ten years or so of closely following the Asian market I have only ever seen two cases of what I would consider to be clear attempted match fixing in English football and neither of these were in the Premier League and on both involved individuals that had specific personal issues that effectively facilitated it. The logistics and cost of trying to fix a premiership game would make it almost impossible in my view.

Funnily enough I saw something pretty suspicious on Saturday in the English leagues.. but it wasn't in the Arsenal Newcastle game.. Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Although a goalkeeper stupid enough to do that would probably also be stupid enough to get himself sent off at the end of the first half whilst deliberately conceding a penalty leaving himself unable to influence the game further and watching from the sidelines when the coup came unstuck due to a mistake by another keeper!!!!! Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Post by: Karabiner on February 07, 2011, 09:01:34 PM Arsenal FC are now apparently sueing the daft French radio station that concocted and reported this load of bollocks.
Tighty too possibly ::) Title: Re: Breaking betting story? Post by: TightEnd on February 07, 2011, 09:09:34 PM Just reporting what was out there last night
