Meaningless awards, worse than poker awards.

I actually don't mind some sort of commnuity achievement award.

The loppypop lady who has served her local primary school for 50 years or the guy who organises transport to hospital for housebound members of his community deserve to be acknowledged and appreciated for their hard work and dedication.

Giving awards to famous people for doing their jobs is ridic obv.

She's done a bit for Help The Aged.

She married one.

She's lives in America and works there most of the time. Not sure that's considered being a tax exile? if she was that has no stopped most of the Tory Lords.

Not sure why people who dismiss the honors list as being a sham then get angry at people who receive them. Unless you know exactly what she does then how can you comment? its a bit like making a guess about it based on what your perception is..

Wasn't there a bit of an uproar when Lewis Hamilton got an MBE despite have moved to Monte Carlo for tax reasons?

Surely Tikay deserves an MBE for services to poker and women over a certain age.

Being a tax exile (which she is not) doesn't prevent you from receiving an honor that was the point, Lord Ashcroft for example.

A tax exile is a person who specifically lives outside this country to avoid paying our high taxes, erm like Ken Bates. She is married to an America and has kids who are duel citizens (i presume) living and schooling in NYC. Most of her work is in the states and she is taxed their so I would say she is far removed from one.

its based on their contributions  to a service/entity not the treasurers coffers. If you don't live in this country not sure I would ever phrase it as her having to pay her dues? you pay the taxes to the whichever country you work and live in.

OK re-phrase 'does not pay UK tax'.

If she doesn't pay her dues in the UK why should she get our honours?

So, for example, David Beckham should be barred from any kind of honours???  Surely the contribution you make to a country doesn't neccesarily correlate with the amount of time you spend there or taxes you pay there.

Google doesn't turn up particularly much. Patron of something by the looks of it. But even so, it cannot be all that much in the UK as she's a tax exile. If I'm right (open to flaming here), a helluva lotta people do alot more and don't get anything like a CBE (not that they even expect it or do it for that reason).

Mother Teresa is a bad role model as to what is good.

Helping perpetuate poverty, denying people of vital and affordable medicines, and generally promoting a life of hell for many women in poverty-stricken areas doesn't make her someone I'd give an award to.

Catherine Zeta Jones has supported the following charities:

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
Cinema For Peace
Global Missing Children's Network
Longfields Day Centre
Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation
National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children
Noah's Ark Appeal
Worldwide Orphans Foundation

For charity.

It was also for services to the film industry, even if you don't like her films you can't say she hasn't promoted the British film industry or the profile of British actors.

These are the sorts of people who deserve honours (not that I actually understand what they're talking about, but I think I get the gist of it):

Nah, F'em..if they don't kick a ball or appear on the big screen I don't want them honoured.

You don't even have to be British to receive an award.

I mentioned some time ago that for the top celebs to even think about receiving an award they need to have some sort of charity work on their CV.

It was a genuine question although partly tongue in cheek, when I asked TK if he had been given the nod he had a chance of being put forward for an award when he started posting about all the charity stuff done with his place of work.

Zeta Jones and David Beckham tax exiles?? Just lol

Hate the celeb side of awards personally but love the commoners receiving awards for years of work for their communities because they want to do it, not feel inclined to do it for future rewards.

BTW a CBE is a huge stepping stone toward Knighthood/Dameship (if that is a word.) and that twat Johnathon Ross has one.

Geo

Blatant proud brag

My Grandfather was awarded the CBE after WWII
He used to be the editor of the Jersey Evening Post and held that position during the war while the channel islands were occupied.

The germans used to strictly control what was published and try and publish their own propaganda, however when they used to hand over badly translated english articles, my grand father would ensure that they were printed EXACTLY as written so everyone knew where they came from....

Here is a pic of him talking to some german officers...
