Title: 6 month car Post by: rossfourfive on February 28, 2011, 06:47:19 PM I'm looking to get hold of a car for 6 months. Would the best option be to contract hire? What options are available for 6 month contract hire and 6 mth insurance?
Would rather do this than buy now sell later - although depends on monthly cost. Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: Longines on February 28, 2011, 07:37:25 PM http://www.thrifty.co.uk/long-term-car-hire.htm

let me know if you want info Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: EvilPie on February 28, 2011, 07:48:45 PM 6 month contract is going to cost a fortune on a brand new car as max depreciation is all in that period.
Try main dealer for a 1 year old model which isn't going to lose too much in the 6 month period that you have the car. Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: doogan on February 28, 2011, 08:01:04 PM http://www.dreamcarhire.com/
Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: rossfourfive on February 28, 2011, 09:06:29 PM Hmm was hoping for something a bit cheaper than those. Are you able to take a car on finance and sell up 6 months later or would there be a fee for early repayment?
Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: ripple11 on February 28, 2011, 09:15:22 PM http://www.dreamcarhire.com/ Quite fancy the 6 Car Supercar Day Plan :)......any guess on the cost!? Are you able to take a car on finance and sell up 6 months later or would there be a fee for early repayment? The fees would be huge. When you finance a car they give you a big loan. Your payments pay off this loan + interest and cover the depreciation of the car. The more the car depreciates by the more you have to pay. Get a brand new car for 6 months and you get shafted. What sort of car are you after? Any particular age? Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: rossfourfive on February 28, 2011, 09:21:59 PM Hmm was hoping for something a bit cheaper than those. Just don't want to get a 10 year old fiesta from the guy down the road which breaks down as I drive it away. They'll probably buy it back for about 12k. You're going to struggle to beat £500/month. Best bet without doubt though is to buy off autotrader then sell in 6 months. You'll probably only lose a couple of grand on a decent 20k motor. Don't you know someone who could deal with all the buying and selling for you if you bung them a few hundred? Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: Longines on February 28, 2011, 09:35:19 PM Do you have any no claims discount? If not, £500/month for a car inc insurance could be a bargain.
Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: Woodsey on February 28, 2011, 09:39:45 PM Go to the car auctions and pick up a runner for 2k and sell it back for 1.5k in 6 months imo.

Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: Royal Flush on March 01, 2011, 01:22:41 AM Where are you based?
Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: rossfourfive on March 05, 2011, 05:20:05 PM Where are you based? Southampton. Agree that it looks too expensive to hire. Found a 1.4 Fiesta Zetec, 52 plate, 30k miles, £3990. Obv depends on condition but if in good nick, does this seem like an alright deal? Sell back for £3k in 6 months realistic? Title: Re: 6 month car Post by: Longines on March 05, 2011, 05:38:36 PM Yikes, are 8 year old Fiestas really four grand?
